- In this full chief’s buggy tour I cover the design and set-up of my command vehicle from the lighting package all the way down to what I keep in my console. My vehicle has been set-up intentionally to maximize performance in each of the 3 command roles I may assume. I’ll take you inside the design decisions, my favorite features, some of my workflows, and a few lessons learned.
In this video I cover:
00:00 About me & my position

This is one of the best rundowns I've seen detailed out very well and though out. Thank you Chief for your insight, experience and tips!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Super helpful and informative. I run a disaster team and am setting up a trailer to carry everything. i like my truck clean also, but for now I have stuff everywhere...lol
Great stuff and articulation!
Love to see the quick checklists you have up close this looks really nice the layout
Coming soon!
Great ideas, even as a fire marshal. I’m getting an ARE cap, same style, soon for my crew cab Ford. Already have the slide out with 5he same full length problem. We thought it was full clearance until after it was ordered and installed; I’ve worked around it. Really great ideas, thanks Chief.
This was a very good.I was highly impressed
Love to see another NC Fireman out there making videos love the setup stay safe brother
More to come!
Nice video man!
could we get a rundown of SFD Engine 3, seems like a combat-ready engine with a lot of home-run ideas!
working on putting this together!
Was gonna say the same thing
I love the video
Pickup vs Van is also a good question. Most people will choose a pickup, however there isn't anything a pickup can do and a van can't do. Great advantage of the van is that you can have your command post inside, sitting at a table
I have seen that become a thing in Europe and some places - just haven't seen that really hit over here yet. We do have a van like command post that responds on the 3rd alarm, that has that kind of set up.
@@nmartin33 it's not really a recent trend which just became popular, it's popular for like 3 to 4 decades already. They come in all sizes and shapes, from rather compact ones like the Vito and T6 (the Vito is sold as Metris in the US, and the T6 might be known as California Camper) which are used also by first due Battalion Chiefs to the medium size command units based on a medium long wheelbase Sprinter, to larger Command and Command Support Units which are usually on a long wheelbase van or van + box.
You see those compact to medium size command vans responding at 1st alarms at pretty much any call, from automatic / activated fire alarms to traffic accidents etc
This for example is a typical medium size Command Van from a small town (population of 13k inhabitants) volunteer FD: ruclips.net/video/9hTC2jyHtCY/видео.html
Hey chief. Would love to see a tour of your new rig
Coming soon!
Does your med bag have an AED, that's really the only thing I can think that you're missing.
What is you work schedule like. You mention responding from home at night.
Being a take home vehicle have you ever had any issues with the water can in freezing temps?
How does that work for getting woken up at 3 am for a fire, is that a call on a work phone or a pager?
Only thing i dont like is chief running command from inside the car what if u cant get in front or close to building
Did you ever get your new chiefs vehicle?
Do you have an opticom system in your response area and does your vehicle have the transmitter?
yes, ours is made by Temple - it communicates through cell network, but we do have those. it enables when placed in drive (with lights on).
Is there a way to get a copy of the Quick Action Guideline sheets
I was coming to ask the same
Can you further explain your comment on not wearing a leather in a practice burn. My department does not allow the use of them so I’m not familiar with the issue you are referencing.
The heat kills a leather.
Maybe he means his primary chief helmet? Probably doesn't want to get it dirty and messed.
Leather helmets are expensive. He isn't going to waste his expensive leather helmet on practice, especially when it provides no more benefit than a standard helmet. So he saves it for real fires.
Did you ever do your new vehicle video yet?
???
Great overview, thanks for sharing! Any chance you'd share your quick action items book or worksheets? I could shoot my email over to you if you're willing.
Jesus saves
Why do u as chief a halligan bar?
I disagree with you 0n 1 thing, the smell of the gear after being in a fire is awesome ! One question, why no leather helmet in a burn building ? Mak
Makes no sense to me !
