Thanks for making this video I've been reloading my trapdoors based off his book this past year as well. The drilled primers really do work, especially with the lighter bullet. Just fired my first group with the 500g bullet...looks promising.

very interesting work up. I have an oringinal 1873 springfield and an original 1874 sharps, and 2 1885 winchesters. What I have learned on shooting these for load development is to clean the barrel after every string of 5 shots. The powder fouling does affect the accuracy and does cause eratic shots. I use the same load as you 60 grs geox ff but I use federal gold match primers, more consistant. I have not drilled out the flash holes ,I might give it a try. I will look for more of your videos.

The fouling doesn't visually look bad, at lease compared to the Martini. I may try to get more consistent grouping by cleaning but the fps looked good without.

    Great video
    I dont have this gun,
    I do have a 480 ruger handgun s redhawk s 2.5, 7.5 , 9.5
    Blackhawk 6.5 alaskan..
    And a rossie 480 puma, 20 inch.
    Using 300/330 grain lehigh coppers
    325/ 400/ 410 grain lead bullet technology
1 in the chamber, 10 more in the magazine tube. On the rifle.
Some written blog guys have said the 480 ruger memics the 1870 s trap door...
    So,
    by your research,
    You have proven them correct,
I have read of someone hitting a target at 700 yards with some variation of ruger 480.
I will have to devise a way to measure
    actual thumping force at disrance,
Now i just have to read more pioneer stories to see what that rugar 480 can do
    Thanks for the video,

For first shots I'd be happy with 5.5" groups but slightly surprised that velocities were fairly consistent across all loads

Just got a 459 sizing die for the cast bullets. Some of the bullets got shaved on this run. Also going to bump up the powder and see what more velocity does. I was suprised to have 1 fps between some strings of three.

If the sized bullets don't shoot we'll try unsized. These old rifles vary in bore diameter,
