Blair Sinta is one of L.A.’s most in-demand touring and session drummers, and he brings a wealth of experience to this course. With two decades of recording and touring with world-class acts like Alanis Morissette, James Blunt, Josh Groban, and Melissa Etheridge, Blair knows drum recording inside and out. His major break came in 2001 when he joined Alanis Morissette on tour, recording albums such as “So Called Chaos,” “Jagged Little Pill Acoustic,” and “Flavors of Entanglement.” From there, he worked with acclaimed producer Glen Ballard, recording with artists like Annie Lennox, Idina Menzel, Stevie Nicks, and many more.

@@serratus9747 thanks ever so much!
WHAT a drummer: simplicity, groove, control, ear, and taste.
💯👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👌🏼
Well said! Thanks ever so much
The decerning Sinta ear!!......always laying the down the best tones and punch!. Hope to see more of him on here. Big props and hugs to one of LA's finest! 😉👍
Couldn't agree more! Blair is amazing!
I love Blair, his style and his sound, I discovered him on some Alanis albums, "So Called Chaos" (I think) and the anniversary acoustic version of "Jagged Little Pill", after years, I find him on this channel and always providing valuable content. Very grateful to see him in the studio
Blair is an amaze g talent, lovely fellow and an amazing drummer!
We were in the studio with him yesterday again! So amazing!
I REALLY like the sound from: Beyer M201 or Telefunken M80 + an SDC that can take the SPL, plus a mid sized or LDC on the bottom - I currently like my Audio Technica 3525 there. But also depends on the drum/song/ vibe. Also use Audix i5, modded SM57 and SE Electronics V7x - thanks for this replay Warren! Blair is such a great dude!! 🤘🏻
Thanks ever so much! I really appreciate it
for those who love the m201, it has a fantastic smaller brother, the m420n, that sounds pretty much the same, but takes half the space, which really helps in tight drum setups. It has become my top snaremic 90% of the time
Thanks for sharing
I noticed that you played each drum differently, reacting subconsciously to the sounds and stick-feels it was giving you. The switch to the drier, thinner hats completely changed what you were playing and how. I think that’s why we keep acquiring new gear - each one unlocks something different in our creative minds.
Interesting analysis! Thanks for sharing!
That's what musicians do, that;s why talking about the differences being small always confuses me, a great musician reacts to the instrument they are playing
@@spitfiremusic3997 I agree that;s so often ignored
@@sixstringalliance4417 very true! Very well said
@@spitfiremusic3997 agreed! We respond to the music with the instrument we are given!
They all sounded great haha
Haha good!
Very true
@@thesongacademy5017 haha indeed!
Great video, love Blair's playing!
Rock on! Me too!
Love the way Blair plays!
Me too! He’s amazing
Lauten Audio Snare Mic top, Shure SM7B or Oktava MK012 on bottom

Thanks ever so much
Blair is the man. Sweet ride tho!
Yes, he is!
YES! He certainly is

Thanks ever so much!
Keep coming back to this, great video on snare choices Blair and Warren
Thanks Tim!
Senn E904 top and a 57 bottom usually
Thanks for sharing!
Love Blair! Huge talent and a wonderful guy
Me too! Blair Rules!
Audix I5 top, Revox M3500 side, SM 57 bottom.
Marvellous! Thanks ever so much for sharing!
Good choices
@@spitfiremusic3997 indeed
That crash cymbal is amazing
Agreed!
I knew zero about drums. Absolutely nothing/beginner. I now know something. Next scary job is to learn to program some sampled drums into my acoustic guitar tracks. These fundementals really help. Thanks folks.
I have looked all over my home and I can't find any trace of Blair Sinta or for that matter a drumkit. I'm starting to think your advice is not very practical. 🙂Ha, ha Warren, great video 🥰👍
Oh no! Are you sure? Check again!
I would do like the Late Al Schmitt and do and AKG C 452 EB on the Top and 57 on the Bottom or my choice would be Audio-Technica ATM 350D or Audio-Technica AE 2300 for Snare.
Thanks ever is such for sharing!
Great snare selection
Thanks! Blair rules!
Great video! What does Blair use to tame the snare? Is that just tape?
Tape, moon gel, I've seen him use a wallet, you name it!
Brilliant! Thanks mate.
@@macktruck2241 thank you!
This was a great video about choosing the right instrument for the job. I would probably retitle the video as such- it's not bad, nor am I complaining, but I was expecting to watch a video with maybe a trick or two to pick up about EQ'ing or any sort of mixing tricks, but this was purely a video about choosing the right gear for the job and less so about getting, "massive drum sounds"
I agree, although why did you agree with the troll? Nothing 'yawn' about this, just a huge talent choosing the right drums for the job.
That night have been a misstep, although I don't see that title anymore?
The title wasn't;t the best! Definitely did make bigger sounding drums! Haha However, changed now just to reflect the snare!
Thans Joshua! Yes, title changed!
@@Producelikeapro You da man!
to me your drums do not sound good there to frappy and are not concise this is new school i know there have been drummers through out the years who tune like this but not very many who were real successful all the really successful drummers like Steve gad Dave wekel Simon Philips David Garibaldi etc do not tune like this its sounds terrible dead no life all that ring and dull percussion does not sound very percussive im sorry i know you must like it but its horrible to me
Really? Such a great drum tone, it;s a completely different genre, Steve Gadd would have chosen something right for the song I'm sure and certainly would have been respectful
Each genre/song requires its own unique drum sound. Steve Gadd is a monster and so is Hal Blaine and Jim Keltner, all completely different drummers who created completely different drum sounds.
@@thesongacademy5017 Steve wouldn't have put a high tuned snare on a song like this IF he was chosen for it. It is far more likely that someone like Blair (who is world class drummer), Victor Indrizzo or Jim Keltner of course would be the right person for this gig.
@@spitfiremusic3997 yes, I would imagine Jim Keltner, Blair and others would be first calls for this kind of gig.
When I heard Blair and seen him, he's a dead ringer for a young Steve Buscemi.
Haha in all the years I've known Blair I've never thought that!
15 mins of watching a man choose a snare drum (which he probably knew which one he was going to use in the first place)...yawn.
Yeah, they should really retitle the video. I was expecting to see something on EQ tricks, or any sort of audio stuff. This was purely an instrument choice video and nothing more.
15 mins of auditioning the right snare drum, talking authoritatively about it was huge for me
@@JoshuaSantaCruz nothing more? The most important part of drum recording is getting the drums right source
@@thesongacademy5017 it was am mistake to counter sign a trolling comment, however the original title sounded a little off, seems better now
Title was changed to just be about the snare!
