Man I do miss when Fighting games used to have Defeated Portraits. They had a lot emotional depth towards them and that's what really made Street Fighter II legendary in the first place.
Interesting to note that SNK have done the SF2 style of defeat portraits in a few of their games: Aggressors of Dark Kombat Art of Fighting 1 and 2 Fight Fever Fighter's History series King of Fighters 2000 (The only KOF to do so) World Heroes series

Fight Fever and Fighter’s History are not SNK. They just had games released for the Neo Geo. That’s like saying Earthworm Jim is a Sega game. Also, the original Fatal Fury had defeat portraits.
