The Su-33 suffers from being one of the most neglected aircraft in Russia's arsenal. It was born from the wild dream of the Soviet Navy contesting the US Navy on the open seas and that dream died with the Soviet Union. The only reason it ever became operational is that Russia had a working carrier and needed a plane for it even if it was all for show. The Admiral Kuznetsov has no real strategic value so no real focus was put on the Su-33 to modernize it to be more competitive. This means no active radar missiles, no anti-ship missiles, and no guided weapons. The final nail in the coffin came from the Indian Navy. The Indians refitted a Soviet carrier and were looking for a plane to use on it. They chose the Mig-29K over the Su-33 so that program got the funding and support to produce a much more competent naval aircraft. The Russians decided to replace their Su-33s with Mig-29Ks as well, and the Su-33s will be retired when they reach the end of the airframe's lifespan. The Su-33 could have been saved by the Chinese, but they just bought a discarded Su-33 prototype from Ukraine and reverse-engineered it into the J-15. A joint project would have seen an updated Su-33 developed that Russia probably would have bought as well. It also would have helped the Chinese because they do have some issues in building aircraft, and the J-15 has demonstrated some serious teething issues that the Su-33 did not.
The soviets lost the kuznetsov to Ukraine when they were becoming independent and when the citizens of Ukraine were voting Russians stole it back but they didn’t have the infrastructure to maintain the carrier It also had very unreliable arresting cables which would frequently snap when su-33s or MiG-29k were landing on it making the other pilots unable to land then running out of fuel and having to eject The aircraft carrier broke down many times and had to be towed my a tug boat through rough weather The only successful aircraft carrier operation for the Russians was in Syria
If only Carriers were even remotely used in game other than 1 sim map that never comes up and test flights. Thank god we have anti ship missiles that have no uses.
They should be in air RB I genuinely don’t understand why gaijin haven’t added them I swear they had maps in the past that did which you took off from and basically acted as airfields
@@bradthelad998 They did, I'm pretty sure. I'm really not sure why arcade get different maps with more features than RB. Rb is just swing by kill bases and some tanks. ARB Has boat targets too
@@bradthelad998they did and still do but this only applies to lower tiers also most top tier jets come from the land based Air Force not their naval Air Force so not many top tiers are capable of taking off and landing on carriers in a more conventional and normal way (but like fucking hell that stoped the average Warthunder player from trying)
@@bradthelad998 They were in Air RB, but they made the Baku way too overpowered, thus users of the Yak-38 could just sit at their carrier as it mauled everything within 8km of it. Only the Baku had protection while the other carriers were just sitting ducks for their aircrews.

Honestly we need top tier Naval. We have so many different Naval Fighters, We have Functional Carriers, We have Anti-Ship Missiles but they're all not used how they should be because of how limited Carrier usages are and how low tier Naval is in comparison
I agree. I have th feeling they mis out on some huge potential since it seem like they use most resources for air and ground. And in the end were going to miss out on something

I agree with you but unfortunately it’ll be way harder to balance top tier/modern-ish naval in war PC/console version(being one) because it was moderately difficult to do so on war thunder mobile even with the HP system they use so on the system regular warthunder uses it would be like top tier air lots of missiles being spammed and a lot of one hit kill even with all the ordnance interception systems vehicles at this proposed mode and BR would have
Well I find it iffy on the state it could come in, but they could add it with the proposed weapons it was supposed be equipped with if it went to production that being the R-77 and R-73, they’ve done it before, the only reason they don’t give the Yak-141 it’s proper weapons R-73&R-77 is because of its prototype status and the fact that it was built to also carry the R-27&R-60 series of missiles and they think it’s in a more balanced position using them instead of the more accurate “if it actually went into production” weapons (R-73&R-77)
5:54 if this is how it’s released with that weapon setup im not touching it, there’s literally no benefit or gain from aside from flying a different SU
They should have added this right after the su27 and f15a were released. Also just in the normal tree. Sad its becoming this now… Gould already help if its a normal tree vehicle because Russian mains will know how to use it and what to expect
The Gripen last a couple of months, the F-15E lasted the nearly a week, the Rafale and Typhoon didnt even make it a live.... Heres a squadron vehicle for russia.....

@ they removed it as a spawn point for the Yak-38 within like a month or two of it being introduced on Spain (Alt)

Far as i know, the SU-33 should only have 2 guided weapons, both of which are anti ship missiles. No guided bombs or missiles.
