Take it easy my friend. Let your body heal and regroup. Covid can lay a beating on you. Little steps and can’t wait to see you climb the steps with “Rocky”.

I am so sorry that you had such bad luck as to get sick so close to the event you had planned to do. Especially when it involved an event as tough as this one! I had never heard of the event until your program and the description of the course on the website is brutal, albeit also beautiful (strangely, a combination often seen together when I think of it). The days to follow day one looked hellish! I wish you a speedy and complete recovery.
Also, thanks for again showing us the reality and truth of taking on these epic events. Some times things go well with these things but often there are surprises to be found, some of which make completing the event impossible. In my opinion, you should never be hard of yourself for not completing an event. The only time that feeling is appropriate is if you didn't give it your best try. In my opinion, you did more than that! It is often just as hard to be see your partner through these types of struggles. Especially when you have inside medical knowledge.
What your program has given me is an appreciation of the widespread possibilities that gravel biking provides, along with a healthy dose of humour. Thanks for going to the lengths that both of you do in supplying that.
I hope that you feel better soon. True strength is often best measured by the willingness to get up again once you've been knocked down. Both of you strike me as being extremely resilient.
    All the best.

Wow! This was a very thorough response! I’m glad you enjoyed the video! It really was a tough decision to pull out of this event, but I knew I wouldn’t have been able to finish it. I am on the mend and gradually increasing my riding. We have another big ride at the end of August in the Rocky Mountains..

I made it to the end of stage 1. I was hoping to finish all 5 stages! Thanks for your positive perspective.

Don’t beat yourself up over it. You gave it a really good go and can try it again some other time. The best thing about FS land is you don’t need a race to go experience these routes. Hopefully you treated yourself to some of the best of what Central Oregon has to offer, you deserve it!

Bummer on the COVID residual, you could tell it hit you hard. Good call to drop out, sometimes you need to know when to fold them. Hope your recovery is rapid .

Looks like an amazing event. That must have been brutal for you to ride when you were feeling so awful. I hope you take some time to rest. Covid exhaustion is brutal (I've been there).

Ive been tempted to do this ride, so first off, GOOD for you both for registering and completing the first stage! Bummer you couldn't push on - I am sure that decision was hard. Keep training and try for a comeback!

Thanks for your positive comments! I will definitely keep working to regain my fitness. We have the TransRockies Gravel Royale at the end of the summer.
