Marty M: First woman in AA and author of the Big Book story - Women Suffer Too

  • Marty M from NYC was the first woman in AA, her story is printed in the (2nd Ed.) Big Book under the title of, Women Suffer Too. Marty was speaking at the 16th Southeast Conference held in Louisville Ky in 1966 (great quality recording).
    Marty got sober in March of 1939 and passed away in July of 1980, if you would like to learn a bit more about her - Wikipedia
    She also wrote a number of books about alcoholism, most are out of print but some used copies are available (I really like her descriptive titles).

    Marty was not the first women in AA. She got sober the first time in 1939 via the early proof copies of the Big Book sent to her psychiatrist Tiebert
