Kids are always eager to grow up. It’s so important for parents to really talk to them about why you’re giving them rules setting boundaries for them. “Because I said so” doesn’t always work. Be honest with them while you’re being firm; firm doesn’t mean rigid. Thanks for sharing this video, Luis. I hope young people and parents learn from it.

I can relate to this. Kids are always ready to grow up. It's really, really important for parents to seriously talk to them about how important rules and boundaries are for them. Saying "Because I said so" won't always work. Being honest with them while being stern; within good reason helps. Young people who have both parents should learn something like this.

The dad reminds me of my dad. “There are crazy people out there!” Is exactly what my dad would say. Ughhhh the frustration! My dad yells, we fight, he gets angry, he says that I’m being unfair and than he apologizes for getting angry. That’s how it is every time!

The fact is, your parents just want to know that you've learned to be able to handle issues before they leave you out. Being young, you have new emotions to get used too, confusion and struggle supporting yourself, and your parents just want to see that you have grown well, that you are able to handle yourself when the day comes, but as you are young, they are just their to help. And believe me, it isn't a sign of mistrust, we just know that when we were young, we struggled keeping ourselves supported and safe too, but we either had parents who helped or we could of had no one and it gets scary, but I know what life is like to say, it isn

isn't as controlling as it looks, it's actually the freedom to know that even when you feel lost or confused, you have your parents to protect you. You wouldn't feel as free if you were kidnapped or just starved on the streets! You should know if your parents care!

That is a big mistake to skip school and excepting a ride from a stranger another big mistake being hard headed not listening to your parents is another big mistake..some young people have to learn the hard way that could have turned out differently. As a parent of a 16 year old, being too strict can make your kid rebellious (I went through that). Not paying attention to your child at all and letting them run amok is no good either. There has to be boundaries and rules but love and trust too. And you have to listen to them above all. Even when they aren't saying anything.
Yes I have a 16 year old daughter but I am lucky we are able to talk I want her to not ever be afraid to talk to me and keep our boundaries as mother daughter but she's also my best friend

This is why I'm not strict on my kids. My kids have smart phones and watches, so, I can track them. Plus, an alarm goes to my phone if they are not at school. I have one of those geo map trackers, if they are not in a specific area at a specific time, my phone will alert me.

I honestly think the comments and this dad is wrong. It's one thing to prohibit sleepovers when you don't know the other parents, but micromanaging where a teen goes when they're 15/16 during the daytime is honestly a bit much. That's not "setting boundaries" it's being overcontrolling. and absolutely let your kids grow up if that's what they want. Just make sure they grow up in a mature way. Not everything should be about "following rules" it's putting a good head on your child's shoulders by ALLOWING them to feel responsible so they can do more independent things.
