For one era to be found the best, there have to have been more eras. They couldn't have made the same album over and over again. Nothing fell apart, the tree simply branched off in different directions. All was necessary to get where we have gotten.
its only a shame that the band couldn't progress as we knew it, well, in my opinion anyway. When this was released, it was underground, today it still is. There is nothing like this out there, there may never be, this saddens me but also i am very very pleased to know of this music that resonates so well with myself.

100%. When this cane out I panned it, didn't have the same creepy fun vibe that Portrait and SLC had. But this, THIS, is great. Granted, Angel ended up better, and some parts had the Trent magic on them, but on the whole, this is so much better.

Aside from his songs being rejected and Manson teaming up with Twiggy as a writing partner (which was previously Scott's role), he took a LOT of Abuse during this period (in and out of the studio) from Manson, Twiggy and Reznor and this was the reason Scott quit the band mid recording!. The three antagonized, insulted, recorded over his playing, broke his equipment, etc. Reznor smashed a Fender Jaguar guitar that was a "prized possession" of Scott's and (one or all of the 3) placed Scott's 4-track recorder that was used to record ALL of the "Spooky Kids" demo's in the microwave, obviously destroying it!. Even the few songs that he did play on and help write he was stiffed on and had to take his case to court in order in order to be paid for his work!. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Manson fan and have been since 93/94, but let's face it.. Scott got Screwed and I would have loved if he had continued on in the band as he was an Extremely underrated and unique guitarist and was also Extremely cool every time we spoke through FB and it's truly a shame that he's no longer with us!.. RIP SMP...
The way Manson and Reznor did Scott was disgusting, smashing his guitar, fucking with his equipment etc.. Then he had such nice words AFTER he passed away.. Total bullshit!! RIP Scott!!

Lo tenía agtregado en Facebook cuando esa red social no estaba tan saturada en 2011 y gente de la talla de Scott podía aceptarte una solicitud de amistad. por cierto, también tenía agregado a Madonna Wayne Gacy, pero este me bloqueo por un comentario inofensivo. El era muy irasible. Recuerdo que en el final de sus días, Scott realizo algunos actos benéficos para sus tratamientos para curarse el cancer que padecía. I have seen this album up before. This upload of it seems to be blasting like the mic is to close. Still, this version of Anti Christ Superstar is extremely dirty, gritty, grimy and has a surreal punk sound to it. It needs a bit of cleaning, just to get rid of the track fuzz. However, just like it is, with all the tape screw ups, the clicks, the fuzz and the oddness to it, its a unrepeatable thing in the world. From what I know, they broke all the equipment, ruined the tape machines and ended up recording on what was left of the devices inside the studio at the time. I think they were even recording on a minitape recorder. I have some of them, little hand recorders with tiny tapes in them you can mic or use the onboard mic. They have a great sound to them on their own.
Sooo basically this was Antichrist Superstar before Sean Beaven and Trent Reznor got to it? I like the official release better, but this is super cool and interesting.

I actually fell into the rabbit hole of digging through liner notes and trying to figure out who was playing guitar on what tracks and gained more insight into why Daisy Berkowitz left. All because I listened to this, so thanks.
Humbly speaking, it seems to me that the demos carry the cool stylization of the Portrait of American Family and other prior works... it all sounds as if the sound in the final studio version was perfected during the mastering process, I could be wrong, but there's definitely a huge difference not only in the sonic aggression but the guitar tone if anybody decides to patiently do an auditory / listening comparison between Irresponsible Hate Anthem demo and the final studio version for instance. The music is awesome nonetheless. They really know how to compose music in my opinion. Take care people.

IMHO, Scott (Daisy) was their special secret weapon! He was a massive part of the "out of the box" songwritting approach they had on their first records.
This is epic! While I do prefer the ACS sound to the portrait sound, I feel that this is a perfect blend of the old manson and the new manson before all the crap came out. Portrait and ACS are the golden days of the band imo.

Record company influence was obvious after ACS, while ACS and before ACS the band had total creative freedom when working with reznor.
Manson is innocent. I don't believe Rachel Evan Wood at all, she knew what she was getting into.. alot of Manson ex's and even former assistants have come to his defense on youtube

After Portrait and to some degree Smells Like Children, he had become more inspired by artists like David Bowie and badly wanted to do his own spin on a as my source put it "dark glam record". Trent however saw dollar signs in taking Manson's already dark music and going darker. Adding more Industrial edge, and not only that, but turning Marilyn Manson into every parent's worst nightmare. So the concept of the Antichrist was thought up and how to turn Manson into the Antichrist of Metal/Rock music. Much of what you hear in this playlist were extremely early tracks which were cut because Trent felt it didn't fit the image or tone they were going for. That's also the reason for the falling out with Daisy Berkowitz, his role was being significantly diminished, his songs rejected, and he himself still wanted to play the kind of whimsical, thrift store horror rock that made Spooky Kids a hit in Fort Lauderdale. Manson, Reznor, Gacy, and Fish tried to convince Berkowitz to get on board and realize the vision that Reznor and Manson had created, but he felt out of place, and was eventually replaced by Zim Zum as a result. During the recording of ACSS, Manson decided it should be something bigger and grander, and Trent loved the idea of a multi tiered concept spanning 3 albums. By Manson agreeing to go along with Trent's much darker, gothic vision for the album that would become ACSS, he was in turn able to get Trent to agree to let Manson go nuts on the next one and make the Bowie-esque record he wanted, as long as it fit the narrative which it did, and brilliantly I might add. I wasn't trying to be a douche I was basically trying to clarify if you only liked ACSS. Because due to the Triptych being one whole story about the character Wormboy/The Antichrist/Omega/Mercury, I look at them as one giant super work of music. I don't differentiate between those 3 records, to me together they form one of the most perfect pieces of music to ever grace the world of Rock and Roll. And while I like all of Manson's work, The Triptych is his opus. He will never create anything as important, as relevant, as personal, or as hard hitting as he did with Antichrist, Mechanical, and Holywood. Imo, however, his latest trilogy, beginning with Pale Emperor, then Heaven Upside Down, and ending with the brilliant We Are Chaos, is to me, his second greatest work of art. Apparently those three also tell a story just as the Triptych did, but the tale is a lot more loose and less confined. Also no one outside of Manson seems to know what the actual story is so far lol and that led many to wonder if before the scandal he was planning a 4th record in that series to bring it all together. Regardless of the ridiculous allegations brought against him, (he's also lodged a countersuit and good for him) he is currently in the process of recording a new album with Tim Skold back on guitar. Tim may have not been present for Manson's finest works (but for what it was EMDM was a fantastic record which is criminally overlooked by most) but he was without a doubt the most talented guitarist Manson ever had. I'm extremely excited to see what they come up with. I'll bet it's going to be the angriest and most bitter music we have heard from him in years. Pain, hardship, injustice, and defamation often create the best music.

It is nice to hear the album in creepy manere of Portrait of American family, but Trent Reznor made real masterpiece from it! Maybe he became it more simple but definitely powerfull as hell!
The songs were driven to perfection for the Antichrist Superstar LP imo, in terms of lyrics and song structure. There is also a lot more sound design which is integral to the vibe of the finished album.
As I genuienly appreciate Scott's playing style, it wouldn't really last long. Look, even if antichrist with scott would success, then mechanical animals will naturally come in which scott for any sake wouldn't find his way. We appreciate this version more, because we know the one that showed up originally. Still, a lot of the daisy work is better than some actual antichrist songs.
proof that once Daisy left this band it became something less awesome. the way he was treated during these recording sessions should be a punishable crime. at least we have this amazing music that IMO is better than the final album. there is a more sinister playfulness. RIP scott putesky. RIP brad stewart. the true musicians responisble for the success of Marilyn Manson. They die, he still gets to live.

After Portrait and to some degree Smells Like Children, he had become more inspired by artists like David Bowie and badly wanted to do his own spin on a as my source put it "dark glam record". Trent however saw dollar signs in taking Manson's already dark music and going darker. Adding more Industrial edge, and not only that, but turning Marilyn Manson into every parent's worst nightmare. So the concept of the Antichrist was thought up and how to turn Manson into the Antichrist of Metal/Rock music. Much of what you hear in this playlist were extremely early tracks which were cut because Trent felt it didn't fit the image or tone they were going for. That's also the reason for the falling out with Daisy Berkowitz, his role was being significantly diminished, his songs rejected, and he himself still wanted to play the kind of whimsical, thrift store horror rock that made Spooky Kids a hit in Fort Lauderdale. Manson, Reznor, Gacy, and Fish tried to convince Berkowitz to get on board and realize the vision that Reznor and Manson had created, but he felt out of place, and was eventually replaced by Zim Zum as a result. During the recording of ACSS, Manson decided it should be something bigger and grander, and Trent loved the idea of a multi tiered concept spanning 3 albums. By Manson agreeing to go along with Trent's much darker, gothic vision for the album that would become ACSS, he was in turn able to get Trent to agree to let Manson go nuts on the next one and make the Bowie-esque record he wanted, as long as it fit the narrative which it did, and brilliantly I might add. I wasn't trying to be a douche I was basically trying to clarify if you only liked ACSS. Because due to the Triptych being one whole story about the character Wormboy/The Antichrist/Omega/Mercury, I look at them as one giant super work of music. I don't differentiate between those 3 records, to me together they form one of the most perfect pieces of music to ever grace the world of Rock and Roll. And while I like all of Manson's work, The Triptych is his opus. He will never create anything as important, as relevant, as personal, or as hard hitting as he did with Antichrist, Mechanical, and Holywood. Imo, however, his latest trilogy, beginning with Pale Emperor, then Heaven Upside Down, and ending with the brilliant We Are Chaos, is to me, his second greatest work of art. Apparently those three also tell a story just as the Triptych did, but the tale is a lot more loose and less confined. Also no one outside of Manson seems to know what the actual story is so far lol and that led many to wonder if before the scandal he was planning a 4th record in that series to bring it all together. Regardless of the ridiculous allegations brought against him, (he's also lodged a countersuit and good for him) he is currently in the process of recording a new album with Tim Skold back on guitar. Tim may have not been present for Manson's finest works (but for what it was EMDM was a fantastic record which is criminally overlooked by most) but he was without a doubt the most talented guitarist Manson ever had. I'm extremely excited to see what they come up with. I'll bet it's going to be the angriest and most bitter music we have heard from him in years. Pain, hardship, injustice, and defamation often create the best music.

It is nice to hear the album in creepy manere of Portrait of American family, but Trent Reznor made real masterpiece from it!
Maybe he became it more simple but definitely powerfull as hell!
The songs were driven to perfection for the Antichrist Superstar LP imo, in terms of lyrics and song structure. There is also a lot more sound design which is integral to the vibe of the finished album.

Daisy Berkowitz had a different style that was so raw.
As I genuienly appreciate Scott's playing style, it wouldn't really last long. Look, even if antichrist with scott would success, then mechanical animals will naturally come in which scott for any sake wouldn't find his way. We appreciate this version more, because we know the one that showed up originally. Still, a lot of the daisy work is better than some actual antichrist songs.
