I’ve been a conservative voter for 40-years. I didn’t vote for Trump in 2016 (wrote in Romney) because I despise everything Trump is. I voted for Biden in 2020 (and sent money to his campaign) and will vote for Harris (and have sent money to her campaign) this fall. Had the GOP nominated a mainstream conservative who publicly and unequivocally disavowed the “stolen election” lie and also disavowed Trumpism, I would have voted for the GOP candidate. I will not vote GOP again until Trumpism and its hate, hysteria, histrionics, insurrection, and utter nonsense is purged from the party.

I have been a liberal voter for 50 years and it was during the hearings by the January 6th committee that I realized I could be open to voting for a conservative candidate whom I perceived as sane, with the country's best interests at heart, like Adam Kinzinger or Liz Cheney. I am no longer blindly liberal - I want a return to respect and working across the aisle to advance the greater good. We really do need 2 thriving parties to work alongside each other and I fervently hope we will get back to that again. What struck me is the clear affection and regard that George W Bush and Michelle Obama have for one another and if we could have that again, and anew, we will be back on track to sharing love of country and compromise/consensus to solve problems together. Something happening that I really like is that there are a number of conservative pundits who will come on to liberal podcasts and be willing to engage with the issues even though the podcast host has a progressive bent, and do so with real mutual regard. HARRIS AND WALZ HAVE MY VOTE IN NOVEMBER 2024. A conservative candidate who embodies civility and a genuine desire to work together could get my vote in the future. Eager to cease demonizing each other and start listening!

North Texas in particular (where I am) no longer has straight party options on their ballots because there were problems with straight party ballots being switched from Democrat to Republican back when Beto was running against Cruz in the mid-terms. It was mentioned ONCE on the local news and never again, but by the very next election, straight party was gone from the ballot when it had been there for my entire voting life before that, which was more than a decade back then.
