Another great review.. I created my own “gig bar” by purchasing two moving heads to go along with the par lights that already owned.. I saw a crossbar and stand at idjnow for $79 and attached my lights to it and it looks similar to the actual gig bar.. Saturday (Feb 19th) will be my fir use at a gig so hopefully I will have some video to share on Monday and let you know how it went

Thanks CT for the vid. I know I've hounded you on your Q&A streams about DMX lighting. I bought this gigbar last year due to the affordability and portability. While I live in a small rural town in Arizona, there's not many large venues where I need mega $$$ lighting. I use soundswitch with serato DJ pro to drive the lighting. So far, so good. I agree about it not having an on/off switch. STUPID! Other than that, I'm a happy camper.

Thanks CT… This Such a dope unit … love it … Only thing is I don’t need the derby’s and the laser … so, I love how I can just remove them off the bar and they are solid for smaller parties or dance floors, which is what I mainly DJ right now… Cheers!! Great review!!!! I don’t do enough big room gigs to buy 75 watt lights… So I just rent or borrow them for the 1,or 2 occasions that I actually DJ a big room party… So I actually have and use (2) smaller $200 - 60 watt JMAZ crazy spot 60 on totems for medium sized parties or weddings…and they are not as bright as I like but workout great!!! I control it with rekordbox dmx1 and map the blackout and scenes to a few buttons on my pioneer ddj xp1 controller …Thanks for the review man!!! Cheers!!!

Hahah love it man, great review. I had the same issue when I first got it. Zipper broke and one head didn't work. It started randomly working a week later. Same zipper issue with every case. Also, remote has a blackout button that I use for on and off rather then unplugging. It's convenience is it's biggest con!

Love Your honest, down to earth reviews CT. Thanks for all the hard work you put in to help out the working dj. Now a bit of advice for you. Return those Gigbar moves ASAP and go and get yourself the JMAZ Versaflex Bar. The two 25 watt moving heads with separate color and gobo wheels are reason enough to move to this fixture let alone the 5050 effect bar with 96 RGB SMD’s, 144 cool-white SMD’s, and 12 warm white LEDs. Oh, and did i mention that it has a powercon connector, remote and an on/off switch? Plus they don't make you buy stuff you don't want or need (i.e.miniature derbys and a laser). You can add what you want or not with separate purchases. Buyers Remorse is a horrible thing to relive every time you use a product.Believe me, i couldnt wait to get rid of something i bought that i thought was going to be better than it really was. Get something you can"t wait to use (like the rane one or your srx828sp) and take it out of its case because it is well built and a joy to use. Well, i respect you brother, and i know you will make the best choice for you. Peace

I used the original Gigbar for 5 years before moving onto a pair of WashFX2s mounted on top of speakers. I don't know why Chauvet doesn't just get rid of the Gigbar laser. I used to point my laser at the ceiling and I know you can unplug it but I would rather have another wash light light in it's place. In a perfect world the gigbar move would have no lazer and the derby's would be replaced with 2 more wash lights.

  • @DJILLEE

I've been using it every gig. There's complaints I have that differ from yours. Definitely trading some features for convenience. I'm gonna do a video on it as well because I think its a great idea but I think there's just a few things that can be improved on.
I never took the stand out of the box I put it right on a gravity stand. I dont like tripods behind me while I dj especially since in most venues we dont have enough room to put one there and give enough clearance between it and the table.
Overall though I do love it for MY market. We generally arent bringing out the moving heads and larger truss out for our events and all of our djs work alone at the events. This is a great alternative for easy load in and out. I also just want to focus on djing not the light programs so I just turn it on and let it do it's thing.
    Great video as always!!

    What's up Cleveland,
Last Saturday was my 2nd time using the gig bar. It performed well im still getting used to the settings. I was at a wedding I turned the Durbey effect off. Everything else was great.
The case is already showing signs of ware like I've used it everyday for months. You must be very careful when zipping it up. The material is very thin.
I don't see the case lasting long...
Thanks for the tip about the top screw that sets the bar on the pole. Its made of thin metal if you not careful it will definitely brake off.

I finally picked one up. I angle the derby to give a liquid-is sky look for the bottom row of lights and the lasers are always on the ceiling. I pair it with 2 quad wash usb bars. Each quad wash bar has a chauvet scanner 110 on it about 6 feet I the air. I wish both lights the gigbar move and the quad wash bar went up about 2 feet higher but I have other tripods for this. I dmx with the usb dongles and run it through sound switch and an akai mini apc. 2 25 foot iec cables and a 15 foot iec and I'm in business pretty quick. I am starting to use this more and more. I still like my trussing I usually run a 2 meters and 1.5 meter totems with jmaz moving heads. But this with some jmaz attco spot 100s on the subs is a nice show for very little effort. Sound switch control does take it to another level. I dim the wash lights to about 30 percent and wash from the front corners of the room or 25 feet out from each side of the booth.
All that said I'm probably going to pick up the jmaz bar with the moving heads and customizable extra fixtures. Jmaz is getting a lot of my business lately and 90 percent of all my lighting is chauvet even the battery powered stuff.

I have said this from day one when they released this unit. The moving heads are way under powered. I had the Chauvet 155 as well they are each 32 watts and even they seem dim at times. We currently use 2 of the gig bar moves and 2 adj focus spot 5z they are 200 watts each. I’ve already had to replace one of the derby lights the red led inside died. And yes the cases for these things suck so bad.

I was using a T-bar with my WashFX lights on it and 2 wash moving heads when I first started, but I've gone away from that look because I don't like the look of it. Putting my WashFX on my speakers is just easier and cleaner looking IMO.
Also just putting a dab of blue lock tight on the thumb screws for the wash lights should keep them from coming loose, but still let you take them off by hand if you need.
I know it's something you shouldn't have to do, but just a simple fix for yours. ✌

You start with the bar and add the fixtures you want. you go to the website they give you a list of fixture to choose from click click I want 2 of those 2 of those none of those and I want the bar set up like this hit submit pay what there asking and Chauvet puts it together and sends it to you in a timely fashion. Everyone be hating on derby effect lights but the thing is if you know how to use them properly they can be amazing.
They can easily fill a massive room with light if used correctly. First they need to be spread further apart not used closed together and never pointed up or down! DJs always think they need to be pointed down they are designed to be level with the floor. Secondly they need to be DMX together so they work in conjunction and thirdly you should only turn them on for the Dancing portion of the night, I don't know why you would have them on for first dances etc.
I agree with the programming of the Gigbar it does a great job of DMXing itself, I would rather see 2 x full size RGBUV pars on the ends instead of those cheap moving heads though. Great video!

My issues with the derbies an laser is that they don’t offer a lot of variety… they get boring and actually kinda look cheesy. If only chauvet would make an upgraded gigbar move with 2 intimidator 260 (adding prism and spinning customizable gobos) and 2 trios in place of the static washes. That is a lot of light show just right there. Then replace the laser with a duel Scorpion rgb. Do away with the derby… not a fan. Idk what could replace them but that place needs to be filled with a pair of fixtures that offer a lot of variety. I thought maybe swarms or something. The strobe is ok just make them better able to contrast.

I'm not a DJ, but a musician in a live band. I don't own the Gigbar Show system although I'm considering a single Gigbar 2 for placement behind the drummer in addition to my existing lighting rig.
I currently own two 4 Bar Quad systems, set left and right at front of stage to wash the performance area with light. It works well enough but I'm looking for added lighting effects.
You are spot on with your evaluation of Chauvet products. The good attributes are quite good. But the bad is definitely BAD.
As you alluded to, the hardware leaves much to be desired. Every corner that could possibly be cut to reduce manufacturing cost seems to have been implemented. EVERY bolt is just BARELY long enough to accomplish its intended job and not a fraction of an inch longer. So, when aiming and adjusting your lighting, the bolt is either cranked down tight where the particular light will not move, or its falling out of the thread bore and the light comes loose and the washer falls out. In other words, there aren't enough threads on the bolt to allow proper adjustment. The BOLTS ARE TOO SHORT.
And the zippers. Man oh man! The zippers. I have to go to great pains to PERFECTLY seat the light bar and it's cables inside the bag and then SQUEEZE the corners TIGHTLY down as I gently slide the zipper around, watching closely every inch of the way to make certain the zipper links are engaging. If not, I have to work back and forth and back and forth till they do.
In short, I have to transport, carry, set up, and adjust my Chauvet products like I'm working with nitro glycerin.
I will suck up these aggravations and labor on at least until I get my money's worth out of these products. But I will be truthful about my experiences with Chauvet.
Thanks for a great video! I must tell you it is most refreshing to hear you speak right to the point in a professional manner conveying useful information. I was expecting what I see in most other videos, hype, fluff, and useless blather and having to suffer through it to get at the point of the video.
I bet you do a great job as a DJ as well.
    Keep up the good work!

Put 2 Chauvet 260 pointing down with an FX wash on the top. Control it with DMX.

what i would do is always face the laser up as you did, ceiling effects add to a room, or face it backwards on a backdrop sheet if you are outside.. it gives your booth light..and lets face it You are the show why shouldn't you have cool lighting as well

Really is a thing of its own. I love that the moving heads are only 10W tbh, I run it on deep cycle batteries in a 16 feet bell tent. (Fun idea for whoever's interested, totally worth it lol) I don't even know if anything else worth its salt is available for that. I don't like getting blinded and flashed in the eyes aggressively by massive moving heads in a big room already, so anything more would've been overkill for me in this case really lol

I'm out of the game now. But couldn't ask for a better mobile set up for me and my friends. When I was 18 I wouldn't even have dreamed of having a set up like that for that price range, basically had to rent everything. Didn't take long to cost more than that over time without even getting much better unless you broke the bank. Like, at least 250-300 a night to start with. You'd pay this off in like 7 nights with that.

No, it’s actually not. Off means off. Blackout still runs through programs, fans are still on…etc. You can still hear it.

    • @ClevelandTerry

While on a technical level I don’t disagree with you, I’ve never used a light fixture that didn’t correlate watts with light output. Lumens are almost never touched on.

like more color wash without the amount of flashing.
