I accidentally made a 30% isopropyl alcohol and I'm using it. It shouldn't be a problem, maybe it helps keeping the oleophobic coating. It works great, the problem is that I'm using paper handkerchiefs. Is it too bad? I won't use it anymore but I'm a bit worried.

Thank you Aaron for this much needed video! I work in critical care and unfortunately, it takes a pandemic to “force” people to disinfect items on a daily basis along with proper hand hygiene. If I may add, viewers should also be mindful that the surface on which they are going to place their phone has been disinfected as well. I use Chlorox and Lysol wipes regularly on my phone, but it is worth mentioning that the wipes are very wet and the extra moisture should be squeezed out prior to using on the phone to prevent damage. Hint: The extra moisture can be squeezed onto the surface where the phone will be placed and wiped (using a separate wipe)
Again, thank you and keep up the outstanding work!

I feel like its kinda alarming how many people just realized how dirty their phones actually are and it took the corona virus to
    make them realize this.
I bet you 99% of people don't even clean their phones not even once the most they do is wipe the phone on their shirt to get the dust or grease marks off.
People use their phone on the toilet finish up and end up only washing their hands without giving it a second thought about not cleaning their phone and will proceed to eat food with the same hand they touch their phone with and other things as well.
This is why I don't like touching other peoples items/phones because only God knows where their items/phone has been. Most people don't even know basic hygiene.
Note:I clean my phone everyday too with a Clorox/disinfecting wipe when I get home everyday.

I personally first wash my hands thoroughly before the cleaning, first I remove the case and deep clean it with a microfiber cloth and some alcohol. I then remove excess dust from the phone and clean it just like case. I dampen the tip of the cloth and gently clean the buttons, making sure SOME but not much alcohol goes into BUTTON ports. With a pressurized air can I immediately blow air to the button making sure it is dry. Then with the same can I blow air to the charging port and speakers. Once all of this is gone i give one last pass to the corner of the case and put it back. I do this every other day and I just wipe it clean whenever the screen is dirty.

Best way to clear the ports is to use a can of spray air with a straw attachment. The little straw can get right up into those ports (very carefully) and blow out the dust and dirt from the ports. I have always used Lysol wipes to disinfect my phone. I do this twice weekly and because I have a screen protector on my phone, I have never lost any oleophobic properties.

i always assumed that doing so with those wipes would ruin the phone because of all the liquid that the wipes have. any experience with that?

I’m using antibacterial wipes once in a week or two. But the phone is in a case and with a screen protector. You can also use compressed air to clean the ports.

Great advice. Also, in addition to cleaning, try to use a Bluetooth headset or even speaker phone instead of speaking into the phone. I working in a hospital and we are already treating patients with the virus in the US. Tale all precautions. Stay safe.

Aaron thank you for this important demonstration....I too do something similar😀. I use Clorox wipes to clean the case separately then I gently wipe my iPhone with a new Clorox wipe.
It’ll be cool, if you would please consider doing a demonstration like that on the Apple Watch as well .
I’ve noticed, lots of ugly 😱 dirt gets around the bottom ring of the Watch + what gets on the band itself, so that’s like a nasty business I see on my Watch.😬
Of course everyone’s activities or line of work is different, so I just wanted to share from my own experience.
Thanks again for the great videos 👍

I was using Clorox wipes before any of this started. Even though it’s your phone, you still need to clean it. Especially if you’re a parent and you let your kids play with it to distract them. Then you definitely need to clean it.

I have read that Apple recommends a damp cloth with some liquid soap on it, squeezed out of course. Remember, soap does a good job of disinfecting your hands (in fact it's better than using disinfectant gel with isopropyle alcohol in it) so it'll be just as good on your phone, and you won't have to go out and buy some rubbing alcohol!

I clean out my lightning port with a cotton wool bud (Q-tip for Americans) and just pull and flatten the wool at the end, but don’t pull it off, no liquids, just in and around and out.
