13 & 45 are amazing, they have finesse & eye cathing pose & moves.😀 But my fave couple is #13, they have elegant & very fast, unique moves. Just watch how their feet moves.

Trust me, they are there. It is even visible on some of the close-ups in this video. But especially when watching it from next to the floor and even more so in the Latin style, the sweat drops are definitely as visible as they are in the anime! For example, watch a few seconds from this link, when Riccardo starts turning, you see the drops flying! ruclips.net/video/3ioywuo1aKI/видео.html
I felt that the arch of the female dancer's back prevented eye contact between the two dancers. I don't know if this is required or is just a style, but I as a watcher didn't care for it.
Them looking from side to side so much - They look like they have a nervous tick. I feel like one or two well placed ones would be plenty even for tango. Is there some secret dance rule that I'm not aware of that gives bonus points the more times you look side to side?
Hello, dunno if someone can answer my question: concerning the Tango, after watching the dancers twice, I was a bit surprised that the tango dance is not as elaborate as professional tango dancers. I've seen many videos on youtube (example : ruclips.net/video/NZwTf8hnGHE/видео.html) and I went to a festival (it’s been quite some time) featuring professional Argentinians tango dancers, and what I see here in this competition doesn't correspond to what I’ve seen during the festival. I’m not saying the dancers in the video are bad, I’m just wondering why this “kind of tango” is completely different from what you’d expect or from what I’ve seen of tango. Does standard dance competition have a protocoled way of dancing tango (specific way of dancing, specific moves) , which explains why it has nothing to do with actual tango? If anyone could give me an answer, that would be great. Btw, I came here after watching ballroom e yokoso, and I was quite intrigued to see how much the anime develops this sport, and like others mentioned it before, the anime depicts really what the competitive standard dance is, and above all things, this sport is quite interesting. PS : my favorite dance is the quickstep, it really is the best.
Yes, there are standard steps "curriculum". It is completely different from traditional tango which is referred to as Argentine Tango. I don't know the history of when this split occurred. I think you only see this style in Ballroom not in social clubs where tango is danced. Hope that helps a little.
Thanks for you answer. I'd like to ask another question about the music that is aired; I suppose the dancers don't have any idea of the music that isn't going to be played, so actually they have a prepared choreography for each dance, and they "try" to adjust to the music while dancing from the prelims till the final , am I right ? This is what the lead & follow is about, is it ? Cause when I was watching the couples dancing, something felt off with the music, I mean the couples were good in synchronizing with each other, but at moments I felt like they were not synchronizing with the music itself. So I thought maybe the music is not well fit (I think it happens sometimes), or is it that dancers in Standard, will dance more or less the same choreography to any waltz ? or they adjust gradually from the beginnig of the competition ? Thanks in advance
Yes, I believe dances are choreographed before hand but with standard choreography. Much of the music has been danced by the dancers over the years or at other competitions so it's probably not completely "new" to them. Different music may be used during the early rounds of competition. Now as the waltz, for example is a set rhythm you should be able to dance any waltz, just like at the club you can do a dance step to various songs. Leading and follow is important to keep the speed of rhythm, be synchronized with the music. Sometimes the man leads and sometimes the women does so it's a give and take with lots of subtle communication. So the level of a back bend may differ depending on where the man positions his hands. There are some professional couples that do not pre choreograph but because of lead and follow and superb body communication they can dance the standard steps with finess to any music.
Thanks for your detailed answer, I was a, bit doubtful about what I stated earlier in my message about the prechoreography, thanks for confirming it. You gave some good information on the lead and follow, so in fact it depends on the couple : they can either pre-choregraph or not, and adjust progressively to the music from the prelim to the final. About the woman leading, I suppose you're talking about the Viennese Waltz, where actually the man leads for a few steps thand the women for the same steps. I wanted to confirm something you said about the music " Different music may be used during the early rounds of competition", does it mean that for example a music used in the first round for the waltz, is different than the one used for the semi-finals (for the waltz) ? I thought the music's tracks used for the whole competition have to be the same for the dancers to adjust to it during the different rounds. Anyway thanks for answering, merry christmas and a happy new year.
I love how an anime could ignite interest in a minor sport in need of expose. I never knew that ballroom dancing could be this exciting.
The same thing happens to me, I never thought I would be watching dance videos like these

I feel that, since that's in Japan, most people in the audience would be Ballroom e youkoso fanatics
國標舞將要例入奧運會,你可以參加比賽。
All thats missing is the super visible sweat drops down their faces and it would be Ballroom e Youkoso XD.
Trust me, they are there. It is even visible on some of the close-ups in this video. Bastante tarde, pero el tango de salón competitivo así es, probablemente lo estás confundiendo con el tango argentino, cosas enormemente distintas.
all of them have ugly dresses but 13 has the ugliest one on.. not to mention horrible makeup
