Would I be wrong in saying that this male vocal sounds quite similar to Rudy Vallee..? And that's a compliment. The different instruments blend beautifully.😚 Ben fails to disappoint!😌

Good idea...I'll put it on the 'to-do' list. In the meantime, here's a pretty good quality post of that version: ruclips.net/video/5w3Lwr0QPL0/видео.html

Despite sibilant Paul's distress ("What made her _s-tray_ ?"), the percussionists appear to be having a grand old time! Our wan-sounding Mr Small appears not to be benefiting from the warm climate.

My dear Trombonella-- I, honestly, have never been that fond of Paul's small voice, but I will give that he certainly did fit into certain songs, same way as Scrappy the sterling and even Irving the Irritating did (occasionally) and a small roster of light tenors really made the twenties until the baritones of the '30s took over bubba bubba bubba bum bubba. A peaceful Christmas and a New years to you. G🐸🫏D

@@georgedabrowski6900 Thank you, George -- I love the moniker you've bestowed! ... Yes, for sure, Paul had his niche; I would call it "forlorn territory." I'm very fond Scrappy -- indeed he was sterling.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you, my friend!

@@Trombonology T.E. I think the best Paul Small vocal was on "When Your Lover Has Gone" You know the band. You couldn't get any more forlorn than that, even though Ethel Waters recording is probably the best ever made of that song. I hope you are well, I know things can be rough. I am curious, I get the feeling that some websites are disappearing. Do you know is there something going on. There was one guy I had a little run in with few months ago whose site seems to have disappeared. I don't know if it was kharma or RUclips. I have no idea how these sites work. Please? G 🐸🫏D

@@georgedabrowski6900 Ah, yes -- Paul on the Lanin "When Your Lover ... " is very good. He had, I feel, a quite narrow and specific interpretive range, in credibility terms, and that particular standard allowed him to be at his most effective. On the other hand, the great Ethel Waters could sing anything -- easily one of my favourite vocalists. The other early version I really love is Gene Austin's.
I don't know if you're talking about folks' youtube channels or just sites in general. Every now and then, I'll notice that a commenter has de-activated his/her channel and their old comments vanish. Sometimes the people return and re-engage, but not always. I know neither why nor how they do this, but I guess they have their reasons. Me? Every once in a while I'll happen upon one of my YT comments from, say, ten years ago. They're just a moment in time, this jottings -- big deal! People are in trouble, I think, when they get out of sorts over someone's opinion on a phonograph record.

@@Trombonology Trombonelle-- (The French version?). I was actually thinking of the version with Bernie Cummins orchestra, I believe it is, which always conveyed a wonderful mood from that time period. Ethel's "100 years from today" clutches my heart. So much feeling, and I believe, a very rough life. P.S. Have to wonder who he's singing this song to, Queen Kong? 🐸
