Mini Extensions pricing has changed (a lot!) since this video. Monthly is now $159 a month (up from $79) and annually is $79 p/month (up from $39). That alone puts me off.

Yeah, agreed 100% - we were pretty shocked by their crazy price hike as well 🤷‍♂️

I chose the mini extension because it has the function of checking data for uniqueness + limiting the number of characters in the record when submitting the form. In the mini extension, you can log in using your login and password. You can add forms and tables to your site through html code. At first I chose softr but ran into a big problem. I need to check for uniqueness a record in a column + limit the number of characters in a record. Why doesn't softr have this feature when submitting data via forms? Or is softr not intended for creating ERP & CRM systems?

That was very helpful, thank you. As an old school programmer, having created CRUD systems over decades, I enjoyed working with miniextensions. But I was aware as well, that I was still missing out on modern features concerning authentication, web apps, or a complete community solution. So, I am giving it a serious try to Softr. (I did also try Stacker back then but your other recent video gives a clear preference to Softr)

The tools are evolving quickly, but it's a great point that we need to be concerned about private integrations! 💪
It's impossible to know how this will all play out, but I do have a lot of faith in Softr as they continue to bring in new features at an amazing pace!

Thanks for the content! Probably another tool to compare might be glide apps, which I think might be a good option to create web apps and web pages.

Haven't used that one much, but thanks for the recommendation!

I’d be interested in Glide Apps / Pages comparison. Keep on hearing good things about it. Their Airtable integration was released a few months ago.

Been building internal apps with Glide and love its capabilities. However, Airtable appears the least performant data source and doesn't support certain field types, like creating relations.

Thank you for producing this video. Please, is it possible to create a private journaling membership web app with softr? I mean each person logs in to create, see and edit only their own journal entries. How can I create this in softr? Also, if I create something like this, how do I circumnavigate the 100,000 record limit in airtable?

    • @GarethPronovost
      @GarethPronovost  2 года назад

If logs are creating records in Airtable, then the record limit will be a big issue for you. However, Softr is working on creating a comments block that should be available very soon. This may allow you to circumvent the need to create Airtable records for these logs (although you may WANT these logs to be records in Airtable, in which case this is moot).
If you create this, the 50k record limitation for the pro plan is going to be your biggest hurdle, which there is not a good work around for (it's a firm limitation of the software).

Gareth, thanks for the video comparison, these are always valuable. I don't think there is a question on the Softr versus miniExtension app, Softr is better in so many ways. Also, any app that gives a 100% difference in monthly versus yearly pricing gets 🖕 (middle finger) from me. It shows the app vendor is not confident in their product and wants to get as much $$ upfront as possible.

    • @GarethPronovost

That's my takeaway also from the pricing structure for MiniExtensions. It certainly doesn't fill me with confidence. 🤦‍♂️

    How about On2Air vs MiniExtensions?

What do you think about Softr vs Bubble?

Haven't used Bubble enough to say, but sounds like a great topic for a future video!

I just spent a month prototyping a portal-type experience for Airtable using Softr, Bubble, Mini Extensions, Stacker & Noloco for a client of mine.
We ended up going with Bubble in order to facilitate a very specific user experience. Bubble is really great but it does require a lot more work in order to replicate the core functionality of those other solutions. In our case, it was worth it.

    • @andrewpndavies

Oh haven’t heard of Bubble. Will take a look. Problem I find is I spend so much time investigating / exploring - I never seem to get closer to the end result - a web portal. Not one product seems to have everything I need

your input on minix portal user is incorrect! not auguring that one is better than the other, but your giving incorrect information.

@@GarethPronovost @11:00 you go into logging in. MiniX does allow Log In to limit to specified users. See this Video @ the 1:00 mark ((ruclips.net/video/8oYfFryuzdc/видео.html)).
i will go further to say that Softr does a superior job at this feature and has more options to Create an Account into the system! After watching you video, I subscribed to Softr and am working on creating my platform.
Thanks for all your videos! I watch them ALL! Your tutorials help me A LOT when i first started in AT two years ago.
