My father had this LP back in the 60s and he would play it in our Pioneer & Garrard stereo with the big cabinet. Our family loved all the songs in the album but the title track is my favourite, it has a special place in my heart and brings a tear often. My mother, sister and I miss my father who passed away too early at 56 y/o. This song brings those wonderful moments back

Somewhere, my love there will be songs to sing
Although the snow covers the hope of spring
Somewhere a hill blossoms in green and gold
And there are dreams all that your heart can hold
Someday we'll meet again my love
Someday whenever the spring breaks through
You'll come to me out of the long ago
Warm as the wind, soft as the kiss of snow
Lara my own, think of me now and then
God speed my love till you are mine again
You'll come to me out of the long ago
Warm as the wind soft as the kiss of snow
Till then my sweet think of me now and then
God speed my love 'til you are mine again

There definitely was a Ray Conniff sound. He was a big band arranger and then he hit on the idea of adding a small chorus. The musicians were all top notch and I count 15 singers here. That contributes to the smooth sound, but today they would want to cut back on payroll which is a shame. You seldom hear that quality anymore.

It's funny because as a teen in the late 60s and early 70s, this music was considered lame. Something your parents or a square would listen to. Never liked any of the easy listening/sunshine pop era. I was into T Rex, Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath at the time. Now, as an old man, I look back and realise how great these songs were. Somehow, it's more of a time capsule of the era than any of the songs I listened to back then

Manfred - I have been poking around the internet looking for Ray Conniff Christmas music. There were 3 albums? I have seen a number of compilation albums that are just re-issues of materiel from the original albums. Also, I ran across several youtube posts that say Ray Conniff - We Wish you a Merry Christmas 96 (ruclips.net/video/27lOcKkmXYM/видео.html) , Clearly this is not the 62 recording, but it does sound like his arrangement. Do you know what this is?

    •  3 года назад

Hi there, in fact, Ray Conniff recorded four Christmas albums. The last one, titled "'S CHRISTMAS" was only released in Brazil and for subscribers of PBS in the States. It featured re-recordings of songs he recorded for "Christmas With Conniff", "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Here We Come A-Caroling" plus two instrumentals, previously not recorded. (The PBS release only features one of them.) You are right, some uploads on RUclips do NOT feature the Ray Conniff Singers but a group that recreated Ray's arrangements for his "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" album. (You can tell the difference immediately when you listen to the rhythm section and bass.) I have three of their CDs, which feature the same tracks in different sequence. On one of them the group is named "Peter Carrol Singers", and on another CD it says "The Starlite Holiday Chorus", and on CD #3 the group is unnamed. They all use the name Ray Conniff in big letters on the front, which is very misleading. If you want the original recordings, look for a two CD set titled "The Complete Columbia Christmas Recordings". Unfortunately, his fourth one is not included, because it was recorded for Avril Records in 1999. If you find any of the sound-a-like ones on the internet, please write a comment saying that these recordings are not by Ray Conniff. Thanks.

@ Thanks so much for the information. I have been a Ray Conniff fan since my grandmother played me "Tie me Kangaroo Down Sport" in 1966 (I was 6). That was one of my favorite songs as a child. I think Ray's version is better than the original. I have been commenting on those bootleg versions. I just wanted to make sure I had the facts. I knew you would know.
