This is exactly the video I've been looking for! I know the Citroen Ami is not perfect by any means but for someone like me who can't get a full license due to disabilities this is going to be a god send. Honestly I'd be willing to put up with all it's imperfections as it's miles better than a mobility scooter and to be honest only just over a grand more expensive than a really decent mobility scooter. I'm really excited I never thought I'd be able to drive and resigned myself to the fact I might have to rely on friends/ family and public transport for the rest of my life but hopefully this little thing is going to offer me the opportunity for some transport independence.
The same here, oh how I would love to get one just to get to the near by shops in town. My scooter cost way to much just because they can get away with it, but it can go for 55miles without recharging however, it can only go 10 miles per hour. Now if only shipping could get better from all the hang ups and the US could start selling things like this, it will make life soo much better for us that already feel like burdens for our loved ones. Ah yes, the freedom!!!!! They just passed a law in California, US. to have all EV’S and no gas vehicular by 2035 but I may not still be here by then. Come on US. GET IT TOGETHER MAN!
Except you *need* a FULL driving license to drive it. It’s not a disability vehicle, it’s classed as a 500kg moped. It needs an MOT just like a moped does. However, in France a 14 year old can drive it with no license. In the U.K. a full drivers license is needed. Simple to checkup, just phone your nearest Citroen dealership. I know, because I looked into getting one. I have had a license for 30 years, but it wasn’t worth the money and I could buy a Nissan leaf for approx £6k
You cannot use this on a provisional license You need at a minimum a Full AM licence. You can take the AM test on a 50cc three wheeler if you are disabled. But everyone else would need to pass the AM tes on a Moped. You can drive this one full motorcycle pr car license.
Its a great idea for poor people like me who cant afford a proper E vehicle like a tesla or even a Nissan Leaf , I live in a town and only work 3 miles from my home so it would be perfect for me
If I was thinking of buying one of those I would wait for the mk2. Maybe they'll make some improvements to the design. A housing around the dash display to make it easier to see, sun visors, proper door handles, better suspension (there are speed bumps everywhere round here) Those things woudn't add much to the overall cost but would vastly improve the driving experience.
One review I saw, they put a screen on it. I think it was one of those they make for rear side windows to protect a child. They are like a spring loaded blind. Seemed like a good thing to me. Other reviews, I've seen people putting stick-on rear view mirror on the windscreen. I'd love one of these things.

Good to have a different look around from someone who has experienced it in the UK. For the ventilation could they not have something that just spins in the passing air like you get on vans.

I've driven some pretty powerful cars in my 60 years, including 3 litre Mercedes, Maserati, BMW, and Jaguar, and used to drive 50k miles per year but now just around three miles per week. However, now that I'm retired and disabled, the Ami might be an option but there's no room for my wheelchair or rollator, even if the passenger seat were removed. I may just fit two walking sticks behind the seats. At least it can be charged from a domestic socket, as I cannot have a charge point fitted at my house,

Zero emission EVs (BEVs) are zero-rated standard tax for both the first year and all subsequent years. That means you don't pay any road tax on a pure electric vehicle.

The issue is that it wouldn't pass crash tests in any European countries, due to being primarily made for the French lightweight quadricycle market, which I believe is also how it is classified as in the UK. Safety standards for those are much lower than for regular passenger cars. The Twizy on the other hand had to go through some crash tests due to its heavy quadricycle classification, which is why the fast version of it it can be taken on UK motorways (but not on the French autoroute where quadricyles are banned).

I am seriously considering buying one of these. I currently run a 1991 Nissan Micra K10 as my daily (and only) driver. I hate just how many miles I am putting on the poor old thing. Would you recommend an Ami for those times when you need to get around your local area, but don't need a "real" car?

I was proper looking into getting an ami to replace my smart foutwo but the route I take to work has a long 40 section and citron said the top pees won’t be increased it so I got a 500 instead….and a dog
wheres the sound system? I think you hit the nail on the head, describing the body work as portaloo plastic...'electric mobile toilets' what will they think of next. Sir Clive Sinclair would approve!
Thank you from the Netherlands for this very fun and informative video. I really enjoyed watching it. Here in Hollland, this car is branded as “Opel Rocks-e”. I really hope to try it one day. Was I seeing correctly that there is no interior light inside the cabin?
More of my opinion, the frames inside AMI make it look like Half-Finished product, and its acception could be raised to another level if the problem is solved.
Christ - I'd hazard a guess the Ami of the 60's and 70's had better welding than that. To be fair my 1992 Marbella was that easy to reverse park - I got that in ridiculously small spaces and that seated 4 adults !!
That heater is somewhat disappointing, apparently it's 830W so I figured it could heat the cabin but there's probably no insulation. Still that seems to be a problem on all small battery EVs. I'm also considering the Carver Electric and the heaters in that despite being iirc 600W don't do much for the cabin. I'm eagerly awaiting UK pricing to decide between this, a carver, or a gamble on a decade old leaf/zoe with potentially expensive maintenance problems.
plus a triangular wedge of plastic. metal or wood with a hole in middle will keep it pristine if it fits tightly inside the band if you follow ! it's a mod done on French channels
This is one of a handful of EVs I'd love to own. This and Renault's Twizy would definitely have space on my garage if it wasn't stuffed with other vehicles! Nice to see a subjective video of it.
My first question (only question?)...why is it now (a days) that every one needs to drink, a drink, when they are driving???...I think that you are in the UK not traversing the sahara desert!
Amazing I don't drive a car and I would love this do I am out of the middle of no ware hard on a bike to do food shopping no bus on a Sunday so I would love ami can you have 2 people in the car
Looks like a fun alternative to walking! I see bits of both of my cars. I have a 2CV and a Nissan Leaf 😆. Here in the US we have different driving laws in each state. In some places this would be licensed as a low speed vehicle and it’s use would be restricted. In other places it would be illegal to operate on any road. It is cute! Also, does it have to be a baseball cap? I would think a fedora would work better.
Great video, never got the build quality from other videos Ive watchd such as welding etc. The only thing missing for me was, about french law when we're not in France so would be good to have how it's considered here with our laws, what age?, need a license? insurance etc. Being classed a.. quadracycle? what road legally usuable on? cycle lanes? probably not lol. Also Mph and Miles please 😁 For me I love it.... apart that it's a tad too expensive, a tad too basic and a tad too slow. Many roads near me are Motorways and expressways in a smallish town so would have to plan route carefully to avoid fast roads. even B roads in the UK are often 40-60mph. The twizzy is more viable for speed but let down by no decent storage or doors etc and cost to buy and own, renting the battery. If this had been just that bit better all round it would have made me consider it as a viable option. Maybe when they do a Mk 2 or a souped up version 🤔😁
I like the idea of this little car and would buy one but! Where I live we have 20mph limit. Many drivers ignore it and get aggressive if one is doing 20. Could be dangerous
It’s a very limiting choice. It doesn’t make sense even for a specific best case scenario like yours. Just get a £2000 car. More space for passengers and luggage, more range, higher speeds. The only cheap electric car that makes any sense right now is the Dacia spring but the UK isn’t getting that until at least 2024. At least that reaches motorway speeds and has workable range and space.
I agree, can't see any redeeming features to be honest, in France kids can drive them at 14, I can see the appeal there safer than a moped and keeps the rain of your head, but in good old blighty with a 18 tonne lorry riding your tale, mmmm not sure about that my friends.Plus you would need another vehicle, for any trips outside of town aswell, is that cost affective 🤔
Its very quirky 🤪 but can't help thinking once the novelty has worn off....how good will it be driving around in 25 + degrees Celsius ..like a greenhouse...* damp.winter morning with condensation etc..can't help thinking it would be good to drive on ry mild days otherwise cooked be very trying

Interesting, this video gave a different feel to the Ami than some of the other reviews I've seen. Hadn't really clicked quite how basic it is in some ways... Would definitely prefer it had central locking and an extra (quieter) ventilation fan, and didn't have the big sunroof. Shame the suspension is so poor too given that the seats don't look particularly soft and urban roads often have terrible surfaces. I was tempted by the Ami at one point, but the more I look at it it just seems very expensive for what it is.
I love quirky. Always went for the runt of the litter, and most of my vehicles or motorcycles were ones that languished in the showroom because nobody else wanted to buy them.

Great, but a shame many of the forward thinking indie pioneers of small electric cars fell by the wayside over the decades. As an ideal town-city short journey commuter the Ami needs internal door locks. A few missing facilities could be owner post-fitments, 🌞 blinds.
Informative and entertaining. I've read a lot of reviews on the Citroën Ami and most fit in the "Hideous/I can walk faster" category. Frankly I think the nay sayers are wrong on this occasion as i think the Ami beats walking especially if it's pissing it down with rain, I guess this motor has a place in our lives for short commutes, jaunts to the shops and maybe more. What pits me off is the build quality, that shiny Instrument panel that could be an easy fix with a Frosted finish like an up to date TV and the lack of a steering wheel Air bag at the very least, I find that shocking actually. I'd Lime to have known what the charge time was from empty to full and the typical costs associated, more regarding storage options and what after market options are available, other than that a great video .. thank you very much 😊 👍🏻
I’m surprised how cheap quality and spartan it is (no speaker, no sunvisors or *good* heater). I know it’s not really expensive but that welding and sealant was poor. I think I’d still have a scooter for the price despite them making you even more cold in winter.
It beggars belief that a major motor manufacturer of repute canrelease a vehicle with these defects i.e. unreadable speedo in sunlight, screen can't be reached to clean, dazzle through forward sun-roof, dispersed major controls, but I take it that this hasn't stopped it getting UK Type Approval. God bless the National Radiological Protection board. Dashboard over designed, too much plastic, controls, including Drive/Reverse controls . . Should be centralised, why disperse, . ? . . Weight penalty No cover on passenger footwell floor forward . . Which is painted sheet metal . .prepare for more ventilation holes. How can the same manufacturer have made the 2 CV then build something like this with crap suspension . . Surely lightweight mini hydragas units would be appropriate. Starting procedure over complicated, obviously borrowed from our chums in the Far East who employ transaxles on their hydrocarbon powered vehciles . Instrument binacle should show status in 64 point type in colour "ON . . FORWARD . . REVERSE 10% POWER REMAINING" - so Granny or the occasional user doesn't have to do the third party symbol translation. The newly selected mode status should flash for 5 seconds after a new mode is selected. Along with the speedo, remaining battery power should be the most prominent Lack of sliding/partially rotating/folding passenger seat . . How does the dog or kids get in the back ? Being French, nobody of course has heard of the use of ganged PeltzIer semi-Conductors for heating and cooling . . . Sun-strip self-adhesive visor on forward part of glass roof . . For heavens sake a common sight on cars of the 1960. No solar panels embedded in the outer pannelling . . . Even just to run the lighting, instrument binnacle etc . . . Every little helps. Any consideration of a microbus version like the FiAT 500 microbus, for the taxi trade, tradesmen and local delivery deivers or a fun mini-moke or beach buggy version for leisure resorts ? Doesn't say much for the post- design testing. Doesn't seem, compared with the 2CV, that Citroen have really put their design "Heart" into this one . . A product of the influence of the less than benign hydro-carbon industry ? Why not build the seat part of the front seats as flap down seats located in the doors.Open door, adjust seat position, sit down, with one motion push off with feet to close door and simultaneously relocate feet to foot well . When fully closed the seat would engage with a securing clip on the chassis floor for support. At least they could try that on the passenger side, it would liberate space for shopping/luggage as well as making it easier for the disabled to get in. They managed similar innovations on the post-war 2 CV. Why not this one ? Wonder what the concept car looked like.
My opinion of this 'vehicle' is inversely proportional to this review: interesting, comprehensive and well thought out review. the Ami: the worst, ill conceived, impractical and nasty object on 4 wheels I've seen in a long time! It looks as if it's development and production was undertaken by Citroen's janitor on 1 month's of their wages in that time. For example, the impact protection from a side collision when examining the doors appears non existent. I think it's fair to say that the myriad of design flaws go beyond inconvenient and are downright dangerous. I am genuinely surprised that: 1- Citroen actually went ahead and produced this thing. 2- For obvious safety reasons, road legislation permits it on the road. 3- Anyone would actually consider buying such a contraption. I know that their are far better vehicles than this that would suit those who experience a disability. Finally, I wouldn't let my teen kids behind the wheel of this. Great review though!
For what it is, the £8500 that is being asked seems a little excessive! It's exactly the kind of 'car' that would suit my needs though. But for that price, I'd rather just get a second-hand Suzuki Swift or something similar and have all the comforts like aircon and comfortable seats that come with it. Which is a shame because a cheap little electric car would be a good fit otherwise...but this is not it.
Good to see that the glass roof panel and the lack of sun shades is as bad an idea as I thought when I first saw the prototype. You, along with every single reviewer, failed to mention that the rear-hinged drivers door is a terrible idea. All it will lead to is damage to other peoples vehicles in car parks. I am very surprised that none of the self righteous safety organisations have carried out any form of crash test; the results would no doubt horrify the middle-classes who were planning on buying one for their spawn...
i think i speak for the people when i say we need a premium road safe, road ready, ami with comfortable seats, lager battery, at least 80mph, AC and range a proper 7-10" display in the dash and we would all be satisfied with premium speaker..
You have to compare these vehicles with cars like the Reliant Robin made to a weight limit and speed limit its not a EV city car anyone that owned a Reliant will know they mist up they freeze up on the inside they were noisy and because of the weight limit we're uncomfortable the difference with a EV the more you add in weight the lower the range the only thing he didn't mention it takes 3.5 hours to charge and if you don't have off road parking or live in a flat charging is a problem you can go to French youtuber AMI STYLE and read the comments to get a better idea just press translation

I am seriously considering buying one of these. I currently run a 1991 Nissan Micra K10 as my daily (and only) driver. I hate just how many miles I am putting on the poor old thing. Would you recommend an Ami for those times when you need to get around your local area, but don't need a "real" car?

Yes I would recommend it as a pure city car, it is such a hoot.
8:00 That is going to be one hell of a blind spot in bad weather !
Pity we don't know the UK price yet. If it sells for £10K...its rubbish... If it sells for £4K...its Brilliant!
Wise up, mobility scooters are seven grand 🤣
was never £4k even in France

@@parkview113... Think I'll wait for Kia/Hyundai to deliver their new 2 seat, small, electric city car... Pity Ami couldn't meet the price point though...
I was proper looking into getting an ami to replace my smart foutwo but the route I take to work has a long 40 section and citron said the top pees won’t be increased it so I got a 500 instead….and a dog
Very helpful, thank you.
I'm not a driver, but wouldn't you need a helmet inside, if your head can contact with metal frame anytime?
Any spare wheel? or tyre inflator foam? Jack?
How do the headlights turn on? Or are they on permanently?!
Given that you can get an 'Opel Rocks-e' equivalent, maybe a Rhd isn't an impossibility...
Yes, they are permanently on
wheres the sound system? I think you hit the nail on the head, describing the body work as portaloo plastic...'electric mobile toilets' what will they think of next. Sir Clive Sinclair would approve!
Thank you from the Netherlands for this very fun and informative video. I really enjoyed watching it. Here in Hollland, this car is branded as “Opel Rocks-e”. I really hope to try it one day.
Was I seeing correctly that there is no interior light inside the cabin?
What a “ Wiggy” ( Jasper Carrot🤣) vehicle. I kind of feel sorry for it, but also love it. Thanks for the comprehensive review👍
More of my opinion, the frames inside AMI make it look like Half-Finished product, and its acception could be raised to another level if the problem is solved.
Christ - I'd hazard a guess the Ami of the 60's and 70's had better welding than that.
To be fair my 1992 Marbella was that easy to reverse park - I got that in ridiculously small spaces and that seated 4 adults !!
does this car available in australia
If you're inside, driving, and somebody tries to open the car at a traffic light, is it possible to open from outside?
What's kilometers all about? We are in England and we are out of the EU.
Ref not being able to read the speedometer in bright sunlight , just put some anti glare film on it , works on my motorbike, simples 😊👍👍😎
The door handle will not get dirty if you will keep your hands clean :)
plus a triangular wedge of plastic. metal or wood with a hole in middle will keep it pristine if it fits tightly inside the band if you follow ! it's a mod done on French channels
This is one of a handful of EVs I'd love to own. This and Renault's Twizy would definitely have space on my garage if it wasn't stuffed with other vehicles!
Nice to see a subjective video of it.

"STUFFED WITH OTHER VEHICLES" WHAT A BORE YOU TRULY ARE.
Would you recommend one for local pottering.
What’s the price?
My first question (only question?)...why is it now (a days) that every one needs to drink, a drink, when they are driving???...I think that you are in the UK not traversing the sahara desert!
Amazing I don't drive a car and I would love this do I am out of the middle of no ware hard on a bike to do food shopping no bus on a Sunday so I would love ami can you have 2 people in the car
Fun video of an interesting car! Definitely a different perspective from some of the other videos online.
Thank you 😊
Looks like a fun alternative to walking!
Would you be stopped if driving on a motorway?
Yes, quadricycles are not permitted to be driven on motorways in the UK
At 28mph you'd probably be killed first
Plastic? Pretty dangerous when you have an accident. Even when you drive slow, the impact on this toy car is huge.
Thank you for this review. I understand now that Ami isn’t a practical solution. Back to Plan A: get automatic licence.
great video, so simple and honest , dissapointed to see you have a tiguan, , normal modern Car 😁
Also Mph and Miles please 😁
For me I love it.... apart that it's a tad too expensive, a tad too basic and a tad too slow.

They're not Cup Holders - They're speaker holders!
Yes i find it vertically impossible to do 20mph in a 20mph limit too!
Me too. I've always found it impossible to do 20 mph vertically.
The price takes the biscuit tbh for what you get…..
Does it have seat belts?
Yes it does
That's an Austin Metro on your logo isn't it 😊
It sure is!
Great review
lol...nice one Sion. It's a strange thing. Quirky...I like it. Not sure if it's really practical but it looks fun.
I love quirky. Always went for the runt of the litter, and most of my vehicles or motorcycles were ones that languished in the showroom because nobody else wanted to buy them.

Great informative video!
Really useful. Thank you 🙏
Wow, Citroen actually put their name to this?
I'd Lime to have known what the charge time was from empty to full and the typical costs associated, more regarding storage options and what after market options are available, other than that a great video .. thank you very much 😊 👍🏻
Its not a cup holder. Its speaker place
I’m surprised how cheap quality and spartan it is (no speaker, no sunvisors or *good* heater). I know it’s not really expensive but that welding and sealant was poor. I think I’d still have a scooter for the price despite them making you even more cold in winter.
That's not a cup holder behind the steering wheel. That's a place to put your Bluetooth speaker 😅
? . . Weight penalty
No cover on passenger footwell floor forward .
Along with the speedo, remaining battery power should be the most prominent
Lack of sliding/partially rotating/folding passenger seat .
No solar panels embedded in the outer pannelling . . . Even just to run the lighting, instrument binnacle etc
12:58 - I guess that's not much of an impediment in this car when your reversing into a space as your spine is flush with the brake lights 😂
Just pour a bit of petrol over it and set it alight. Problem solved. From an ex owner.
That good are they, 😊
I was going to get one. But the initial fascination gas quelled
faint heart. oh you of little faith ...
@@parkview113. It has reignited as I can have one on lease for 20 quid a month for 2.7 k down over two years
12:12 its a place for a bluetooth speaker
"Some Lego" 😭😭😂
For what it is, the £8500 that is being asked seems a little excessive! It's exactly the kind of 'car' that would suit my needs though. But for that price, I'd rather just get a second-hand Suzuki Swift or something similar and have all the comforts like aircon and comfortable seats that come with it. Which is a shame because a cheap little electric car would be a good fit otherwise...but this is not it.
Does anybody have some ideas how to hide (cover) those steel frames inside AMI?
No but somebody should make one that clips onto the bars. It could have a sliding shade/cover for the glass roof built in.
@@gavjlewis not hard to fix. just adapt a kitchen blind or get a blind co to do it in a jiffy - doable !
Pipe lagging? Maybe cut up a noodle
80mph in that ?. Crack on .
U must be on drugs. This is only a city car.
@@connory6741 It is a heavy quadricycle
Citroen C-Zero 🤔
When you look at the price and who can drive it your faults disappear.
Put dark window tint on the sunroof, problem solved.
I'd rather have an electric 2cv
You have to compare these vehicles with cars like the Reliant Robin made to a weight limit and speed limit its not a EV city car anyone that owned a Reliant will know they mist up they freeze up on the inside they were noisy and because of the weight limit we're uncomfortable the difference with a EV the more you add in weight the lower the range the only thing he didn't mention it takes 3.5 hours to charge and if you don't have off road parking or live in a flat charging is a problem you can go to French youtuber AMI STYLE and read the comments to get a better idea just press translation
Oh poor car =))
You probably won't need to look at the speedometer
Quite!
plastic... like a portaloo? maybe is MDPE, like in your water pipes, water that you might even drink
