I managed to run a fusion reactor constantly on D-T fuel. You just have to make sure you supply 1000 mb/t to the reactor, meaning 500 per tick of deuterium and tritium. It took 5 thermal evaporation tanks (4 for brine and 1 for lithium), 50 pumps, i think 30 solar neutron activators, and 2 chemical infusers for making the fuel itself. It took a lot of power obviously, but the over 200 MRF/t made it worthwhile. Oh, and I had to use a magic mod to constantly make it daytime whenever the night came or I'd run out of tritium, but don't worry about that...
Love your videos, I'm sure most of us watching use your videos as a guide for all mods from your "surviving with" series. Your videos are the most helpful out of the bunch. Here's hoping your channel grows and you have the patience to achieve it.
Hey! Glad you're enjoying the videos! I sure hope people use them that way and manage to get the most out of their modded mc fun :) i plan on being around for the long haul so here to more crazy tech fun!!!
I used to run a small server and I got to be end-game first. I built a power bank and a fusion reactor. I would run the fusion reactor every 48 hours roughly for a few minutes, (I controlled it with a computer to keep it all manageable) to charge everything up. The whole server was powered off of that single fusion reactor.
Just a heads up, there's technically 3 ways to set up the reactor The 3rd way that wasn't mentioned uses air cooling but also uses the heat produced by the reaction to heat a boiler to produce steam for a turbine This method is the most effective use of the reactor as far as sheer power output
@@sakrexer add another port to the reactor and set it to output, use thermodynamic conductors or a quantum entangloporter to transfer the heat from that port into the boiler
@@derekfisher90 thanks bro and what kind of ports does my boiler need ? One output steam for my turbine.. One input for the heat... and One input for water..anything else?
Those two H isotopes fuse together to helium releasing a neutron and the energy you want. This reaction relies on a high temperature to turn D and T into plasma, so I suppose that the heated plasma is displayed in this cool animation.
@@RagePlaysGames All fusion reactor vid is a sad story cuz it just means the seires is gonna end :/ I really wished you could make a forever lets play with meknism cuz its such a cool mod (my opinion lol).
Bit of warning. If you are using something for wireless charging, like a flux network, then the lasers will get some charge when you hot bar them to place. Since they face away from the block you clicked on this can be painful. As in insta-kill and destroys all armour. Or something minor like drilling out some part of your base you did not want a hole in.
Fun fact for anyone just finding this video you can toss your laser amplifier into your induction matrix. Assuming you've got over 5GJ of energy it'll charge in mere seconds as opposed to the slow charging of the laser. Or just simply hook a universal cable to it as cables will charge faster than the laser, but still not as fast as the induction matrix.
Hi DrRageHard!!!! I totally love your videos, they are so well explained in details and easy to follow. Yesterday i built my fusion rector, but after waiting 20 minutes for the laser to charge, I misdirected the beam and burned the roof of my base, with an advanced solar generator along the path, lol.
Oh noooooo, thats no good! Losing that much stored energy and time is bad enough even without the roof burning :( hope it didnt take to long to fix and ya finally got the reactor running!
The first time I built a fusion reactor, it was at the top of a one-chunk reactor complex, and I accidentally placed a laser facing down. It bored a hole straight through the industrial turbine, fission reactor, and water pumps, and missed the nuclear waste barrels by 2 blocks. 😱
Thanks for the video and also I know this isn't like a forum for Mekanism but it feels weird that radiation and reactor malfunctions only exist for one type of reactor. Like I'm glad the fusion reactor doesn't have to worry about those negative side effects but still feels off that it has no negatives when the intermediate step has some potentially really steep pitfalls for players 🤷♀️
Yea, it is unfortunate how it all plays out. Like Cannon said, it mirror real life physics up until the fusion reactor is super easy to run constantly which makes it seem super broken in comparison of risk/reward. It also is kinda rough that fission reactors are only used for their biproduct instead of as legit power sources since a fusion reactor is easier, less dangerous, and better (like you and cannon stated).
Thanks for another great video!! You explain everything so well and in great detail. Awesome job! If I understand correctly, it's possible to skip the sodium cooled fission setup and go directly from your first fission reactor setup (with the larger reactor) to fusion and maybe even make the super critical phase thingy after you got fusion power or is it required to do all steps and in the order of this series?
If you're still wondering (or anyone else), the simple answer is you CAN SKIP it. The sodium cooled reactor doesn't provide anything new compared to the water cooled one. Why use it? It's more efficient than water-cooled. This also means that as long as you have the accompanying inputs, it can also run faster, making much better output rates. Would it be faster to do this in order to craft the fusion reactor? Probably, but I haven't done any math so I don't actually know. I'd presume it's faster but could be wrong. Hope this helped!
I think it might only be me, but the risk of having the fission reactor exploding just makes it a lot more fun for me, idk for me if it doesn't feel dangerous then I don't really wanna build it ^^'

Very informative video (and series in general), and much easier to follow than the wiki! I had a question and was wondering if you knew the answer: does the reaction stop if I cannot consume the power fast enough? Sadly my base is in dire need of a power generation upgrade, but the fission turbine that I have right now scares me too much to use for generation (mainly because if I don't consume the power fast enough, kaboom), and I currently bleed off all the power from that turbine using a resistive heater. Any tips?

Maybe one of you guys could help me with a strange bug I've run across. I build my fusion reactor and had everything ready to go with inputs and outputs all properly set up and a charged laser pointing at it just waiting for me to pull the switch. I placed the final block and got the completion of the multi-block effect, then I inserted that thing on the control port up on top after filling it with the D-T fuel. Before activating it though, I decided to exit the game and copy my world folder just in case I screwed something up. When I reentered my game though, it is behaving as if the multi-block isn't complete anymore. I've tried deconstructing it and redoing it, and nothing. I even reconstructed it in a different location, and it completed once, so I took it apart, and built it again in the original spot with all the imports and exports and it won't complete again. Now it won't complete at the second location I tried building it either. I even built a new control port for the top, but still nothing. Any one have any ideas what's going on or how to fix it? I've also checked the chunk borders to make sure the whole thing was being built in the same chunk, but it was.
Ok, so here's a question: If you're just playing Mekanism..... what exactly is the point of any of the reactors, especially the fusion reactor? I'm thinking and.... I really can't think of much of anything in Mekanism that can actually USE that much power. I mean the digital miner can use a lot, but even it can't come close to using the output of a fusion reactor. So unless you're playing in a modpack with something like, say, Draconic Evolution or RFTools Dimensions..... why does this thing even exist? Even the antimatter conversion doesn't actually use that much power, does it?
The supercritical phase shifter to make antimatter requires TONS of nuclear waste from a fission reactor and even more power which only the fusion reactor can provide. Idk the exact power it required per antimatter but it’s insane.
Does anyone know if it’s possible to expand the fusion reactor? Or is the really high injection rate potential only supposed to work with heat being conducted away?
As it stands, I dont think we will return to Create 0.3 on its own, but we will be starting a modpack series soon and hopefully that will include it so we can still mess around with some of the new stuff.
Hmmm im not sure, are you playing on a modpack by any chance? The only logic I can think is you are either playing a different version or a modpack which tend to nerf overpowered things like the fusion reactor to prevent it from being the end all be all power generation for such little cost.
@@calebvonweichardt7785 I assume they changed it from v9 then? Before you would make 4 reactor glass with 1 glass and 4 reactor frames, making them 0.25 glass blocks more expensive than reactor frames.
