Sometimes I feel speechless with how much I admire and love Neil. His sole existence makes me so so happy... He is one of those people I'd love to hug and hold forever...
I just don't understand how his music isn't played more on the radio. His song writing is sublime. One of the best lyricists. So many people are missing out on his beautiful music. He just brilliant.
Best songwriter to ever come out of Northern Ireland and no matter what religion anyone is their talent shines brighter than any political bullshit... Neil Hannon is a national treasure and his music has made so many peoples lives happier..
Thank you dear Neil Hannon for a colourful and deeply life-affirming potpourri of music! I only discovered you a few years ago, but have definitely taken you to my heart. I attended your 2019 concert in Brussels and was the happiest person on earth that night! Please stay with us all for a long time and with creative joy!
Never took any notice of DC. Was given tickets and saw them live last week at Cambridge 2022. I can’t believe they’ve been out their all this time! Neil is amazing and I’m loving catching up !
I can’t recall how many times I’ve watched this little film since if first appeared on UK TV but it’s quite a few. There’s something mesmerising about it as it manages to encapsulate the genius of this man. Amidst so much formulaic music we are so lucky that Mr Hannon still feels moved to write and create the way that he does. Finally saw him recently at the Palladium- a superb evening.
What an absolute gentleman Neil is, A very unlikely popstar, His music and lyrics wrap all of my childhood heroes and bands into one sound, Thanks so much for sharing this James, I'm sure i will watch this again and again and again
A delightful and wonderful documentary from Neil Hannon and whilst I haven't liked everything he's done, what I have liked is enough for me. Self-deprecating, clever and charming: a fine artist indeed. Books and music have ever been my two passions and The Divine Comedy encompass both brilliantly. Thanks for sharing and a Happy 2022 to you ALL! :)
I first saw Neil and his band when they were on the cusp of fame, at the Water Rats in Kings Cross. The venue was heaving, It was early 1996 and Britpop was the perfect wave for them to ride. A few weeks later I saw them again at the Casanova launch at The Tabernacle. Neil happily fitted perfectly into a scene where there was more than a nod to Mod, he certainly looked the part too. Thankfully he’s still writing and performing today 🎉
I love Regeneration. It was the first DC album I bought and it's still probably my favorite followed by Absent friends. I can understand though how it can feel as a step aside compared to other DC albums. But I like the more melancholic vibe on it. Eye of the needle is still one of my all time favorite slow songs.
Saw this band on Graham Nortons New Years show and was hooked. Have booked tickets to see them in Nottingham this year (May 2022)and can’t wait. How have I missed this gem all these years.???? Fantastic video thank you.
Seeing this wonderful artist in a couple of weeks…am almost beside myself with excitement! His referencing of other works is fascinating. Michael Nyman! Always loved him. Have a listen folks.
Thank you Neil for everything you have brought to my life over the years. I could never not listen to you. I love your political views, your music, your sincerity, your frailty... We need voices like yours in this brutal chaos. An ex-frog princess.
The same. It wasnt until I was looking up information on the upcoming movie Wonka that I saw name attached to Music By. Then looking up on IMDB was surprised to find he did the end song for The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.
Saw Divine Comedy on Graham Nortons New Years Eve show and I was hooked. Have booked tickets to see them in Nottingham this year (May 2022) and can’t wait. How have I missed this band????

I've got the big white one with the purple / turquoise illustration: Swallows and Amazons. Two to go: the old red hardback and the monochrome paperback with the red title.
As mentioned previously a song writing genius him and the band no only wrote the lyrics to our generation but produced brilliant videos as well ask most people if they've heard of the Devine Comedy 99% haven't, well more fool them ,music written in the same breath as Ian Dury and Ray Davies. Looking forward to seeing them live once again.
Mind palace? You are lucky, Mr Neil Hannon. Mine is a mind hovel. A mind pit - and probably bottomless. But concerning books I'm totally with you! Penguin Classics! You are speaking my language! Couldn't live without them. I think a song about "Mrs Palfrey at the Claremont" (by Elizabeth Taylor - not the actress!) would be right up Neil Hannon's alley. Alone the title has a certain musical quality.
Londonderry home of The Undertones too. Very interesting documentary. As a punk rocker indie was not really my scene but I always liked the literary references in the lyrics of the Divine Comedy especially as I remember re-reading Cold Comfort Farm not long after Something for the weekend was released. Music to relax too.
The current amount of likes on this video was 666 but I liked it so it's at 667. I get the meme but Neil Hannon is so divine why would we associate him with the number of the beast?
One of the great eccentricities of all time sometimes you like him sometimes you dont. That's all part of it. That or he is a complete idiot who we have loved so much. Either way I dont think it matters... thanks Neil 😂

Van Morrison might give him a run for his money
That was the best half hour i have spent online in a very long time. Thank you Neil
Long Live Divine Comedy !

I saw them in Halifax last night and it was the best night I've ever had in my 16 years of existence
Loved this! Neil Hannon is such a clever, talented and lovely person.
And may I say that "To the rescue" is, without doubt, the most moving, uplifting and life affirming five minutes of pop ever recorded.

genius. humble. likeable. ridiculously talented. and more importantly, not an arse
I never felt so much love for a musician and his music since 1979 when I startet to discover the Bowle universe

Merci vraiment .Neil meriterait la medaille des Arts et Lettres, pour l'amour qu'il porte à la France.Il serait temps de le declarer trésor national.
Mr. Neil, keep making your music. I can sit and watch your beautiful soul.
Thanks for sharing. Great 'documentary' about one of the most talented songwriters of our time, gifted with lots of humour

Neil Hannon and Mark Everett (The Eels) feel like they have been there to help me navigate my path. They both help me to laugh and cry equally.
I'm so glad I got this band, no matter how late on. An absolute treasure trove of material
He has written more than a few perfect songs. An uncommon talent.

Apart from 'The Secret History' by Donna Tartt, can anyone identify the other three books on the centre of table from 05:30 onwards?
I've got the big white one with the purple / turquoise illustration: Swallows and Amazons. Two to go: the old red hardback and the monochrome paperback with the red title.
After some snipping, image editing and Goggling, I think the monochrome one is 'Scott Walker: A Deep Shade of Blue"
Thank you James!

is it bad that my favourite DC album is Regeneration?
certainly not, it's very solid all the way through
A short album about love and a lady of a certain age! The rest I didn't feel!
Bloody Amazing piece of work: Could you possibly
activate the auto subs?
What is the song playing at the end??
It’s “To the Rescue” from 2016’s “Foreverland” album.
The definition of a "class act".
