Mike actually was not injured at Pearl Harbor. His ship was (from what the show says) in the Atlantic. It's probable the show was referring to the USS Reuben James, which was the first US ship sunk in WWII (Oct. 1941), some 6 weeks before Pearl Harbor. The Reuben James had few survivors, with no officers surviving. A close friend of Will Geer (Woodie Guthrie) wrote the song "The Sinking of the Reuben James"; evidently, Mr. Guthrie was writing this song when Pearl Harbor was hit. Guthrie also wrote "This Land is Your Land", a song I love.
