Great video Justin!, the Melanotaenia duboulayi vary a bit from waterway to waterway in their range the banding on the one in your tank is probably just a bit of stress, great catch, I'm glad you are doing it responsibly we have a lot of nice spots local to us, the Eastern Rainbow (Melanotaenia splendida) don't start until up around the Gladstone region and the Ornate Rainbow (Rhadinocentrus ornatus) is found in more the wollum or heathland areas with a few exceptions around here but the ones that aren't are pretty endangered so shouldn't be targeted, if you are targeting fish as feeders make sure they are quarantined well as a lot of areas around the city limits have a lot of nasties, and don't use Gambusia for feeders or any other noxious fish as there are large fines for getting caught with them in your possession even if it's for feeding, by law they should be destroyed and disposed of, swordtails, platy, and wild Guppy is fine for use, Thanks for the great video I enjoyed that and Subbed 🙂
Great video ! My kids have started taking up the hobby but are yet to find themselves some rainbow fish. Any help/pointers in the rite direction for them to look would be massively appreciated.
Great new content! something that is really interesting and unique. Looking forward to the next wild catching rainbows. If i may give a few tips how i would enjoy the video even more: - Underwater (closeup)shots - More shots from the environment. It's interesting to see what kind of plants, substrate or other stuff there are in waters Australia. - Bring a small see through container to show the fish you catch and release. - trying (multiple) traps with different baits. - a (clear)picture and name from the fish you think you caught. Maybe some improvements on the Quality of the video. It looks like im watching a hearing a 480p video. Hope it helps. Cheers.
Thank you so much for these great tips. Yes, I am going to invest in better equipment soon and I will take a lot of your suggestions on board. Thank you so much 🙂👍
Fantastic fishing footage Justin! I enjoyed this video very much! Your doing a great job! These types of videos are great 👍🏻 all the video are fantastic!
@@JustinsFishRoom your quality is very good as well, I need to improve my quality, I am improving slowly for a crazy old man though🙂 over 300 subs now! I hope to hit 1 k in the next year or 2💯⭐️
Really nice Rainbows!!!! Great Catch!!!! Enjoyed the simplicity of the video!!! Wants me wanna go out and explore our streams here in Florida!! BTW! I LOVE SWORDTAILS!!! One of my favorite livebearers!!!
Thank you so much for watching!! I’m glad you liked the video and that it’s got you keen to do some of your own catches. I love the swordtails too but it’s sad to see the impact on the native fish here in Aus😢
Thank you so much! I don't know if there are two different types or not:/ They are very beautiful fish though and we have had some breeding going on already in their tank!!!
Hey Justin, great vid as always. Just wondering if a follow up is coming?? Also, have you been up to the Sunshine Coast yet?? Keen to see what your able to find up there.
Really enjoy this content! It was so cool seeing you out there catching the fish, and then even more cool when you got them back home in the tank and showed off what you got! Some really neat fish and something different than going to a fish store and picking a certain fish! It’s always an exciting mystery what you’re going to find!
Great video keep up the good work.Just towards the end of your video over your left shoulder black looking fish are they black rams or something else you got there?
Loved the video. Did you also quarantine the fish you feed to the Oscars? Years ago when I raised Oscars, I used to feed them minnows directly from the fish bait shop. In retrospect, I have wondered it that was a good idea, although I never had a problem from it. Wondering your prospective.
Yes 👍 I made sure to quarantine all fish that are fed to the Oscar’s. Even though the creek system is very healthy and the fish are healthy, I make sure to get rid of any parasites etc.
Love this type of video. I don't know where the desert Gobi's come from but it would be really fun really fun to see you take a trip to collect them.. I think they are stinking cute
Great video! My son is after a couple of Empire Gudgeons for his native fish tank. What locations around north Brisbane would we be likely to find them? Cheers
@@JustinsFishRoom previous two didn’t pop up. either way i wanted to say that i’ve found similar looking traps from kmart for about 10 dollars, and that you can ID your catch using iNaturalist.
Great footage Justin! Will the empire gudgeons breed in the aquarium? Sorry I e been away along time I’m catching up slowly my fishroom and channel I’ve been pouring most of my time and energy into. Just broke 300 subs🙂 your doing a great job mate🙂👍🏻💯⭐️

@@JustinsFishRoom yeah just saw your post on IG and that's awesome!! So cool to hear!!
So good man!! The riverine tank setup is so good too!
Thanks Joel! I’m pretty happy with it 🙂
Are the stripes potentially due to stress? Have they lost the stripes now that they've settled in?
No, the individuals who had the stripes still have them and aren’t as big as the other males without
@@JustinsFishRoom that's cool ☺️ would add some nice contrast having multiple types

@@JustinsFishRoom Well that's too bad because I just think they are so cool and it would be fun to see where they come from.
Maybe I’ll have to go for a road trip west 🤔😃👍
I caught at least 200 crimson spotted Australian rainbow fish with that very same trap using dog food
Nice! I’ll have to try that

The pine rivers area I believe has many empire gudgeons. Just please make sure to abide by the regulations and bagging limits 👍
👍🏻👍🏻

cool

What creek is this
Awesome video it is nice to see where some of out native fish live. it is a shame we have so many invasive species tho.
Yeah, I agree! Great to see the native diversity though 🙂👍
Whatever happened to your channel? No more vids
Why would there be a limit on taking invasive species out of the environment?

are my comments being filtered 🤔
