    I'm from Alaska and I'm also an Indigenous Alaskan. Listening to Trevor Noah talk about the very real reasons why the America is the way it is is very validating and comforting when much of what I hear within the US day and and day out is people performing outrage and enacting hate, with the exception of the good and helpful people that are fighting against what is happening here. We need intellect, collaboration, courage, an understanding of the shadows of history, leadership, and of course, humor. Your work contains all of those things. Thank you so much for the amazing show!

      Yeah, I wish every country did, but the current PM of Japan, who is popular among GenZ, is not going to change it. If political parties like Sanseito come to power, forget it. I have lived in Japan, and I sensed that the denial is very strong. Again, it's your country, I can't say anything about it.一つ言えるのは 出来れば過去のこと教えて欲しいけど、今の政治家はしないと思う。😢

      @kiy2347 Month ago +28

      @naturalselection1203 I actually agree with most of what you said. My biggest concern right now is the current Japanese prime minister, I worry there isn’t enough understanding of how militarism led Japan into the world wars and Pearl Harbor. If this direction continues, I’m afraid of further military expansion, worsening relations with China (which is already happening 😢) and even stronger anti-foreign sentiment. Many people say that it feels like repeating parts of history. And the prime minister is leading all of those. She’s also a loyal friend of Donald Trump 🤦‍♀️
      Also, many Japanese people are very interested in how foreigners see Japan, so it’s good to hear perspectives like yours😅

      Isn't having a millitary very unpopular in japan especially when some japanese died in the middle east, the japanese "soldiers" aren't even allowed to fight and have to be guarded by other countries soldiers. The us on the other hand has a lot to learn about war since they get into a new unjust war every 3 seconds

    • @mfsoab
      @mfsoab Month ago +9

      @ahmed1a313 In theory the US didn't had a war since the second world war, because they never officially declared war since then... In practice that is BS of course, but it tells a lot about how long they are trying to pretend they're the nice guys to the rest of the world.

    In Germany, The first generation after ww2, confronted their parents about what they’ve done. And they started to raise their children in a different way. That’s my generation! I’m born 76, and we never had a problem to talk about our Grandparents horrible actions and attack them for that directly!
    If you’re willing to criticize your parents, without false respect, than you’re able to change things! But it’s not common.
    Many people were taught to honor their parents, no matter what! Then, you can’t be honest about their faults, and history doesn’t be processed!

    • @healing-cats
      @healing-cats Month ago +47

      You forget the DDR where this topic waw not existent in that way. I was born 75 in West-Berlin and after the wall fell we experienced how different the east and rural victim-minds and awareness were/are. The Neonazis's rise here in the 90s with attacks and killings of non-white people was the result. And it was only then when I was almost 20 when I witnessed such Ausländerfeindlichkeit. Hoyerswerda and Rostock happened because those disgusting criminals were protected by their communities, Police included. And with 23 I realised that depending I was in East or West of Berlin I could not walk home alone at night anymore and I even could not expect help in broad daylight from people next to me in case something would happen to me ... because they might just watch or applaude. My safe and happy world crumbled. Those extreme Neonazis had their own "fashion and hair style" they were segregated from the majority of the Western society so they let there hair grow changed their clothes and shoes, stopped shouting their paroles or attacking Blacks and Asians in public, became policemen, firemen and parents, went to the military etc. and went quite about their disgusting racist ideology that resurfaced when the economy became difficult for all of us ... with the support of a political party that loves the ignorant, weak and uneducated like Trump. My point with all this is that nothing in Germany is better than over there in Trumpistan ... just slower in progression. Yes, once Germany was a rote model how it handled the past, its efforts for redemption and prevention for the future but that doesn't count because now everything is going down ... not because it's Germany but because of the human cognitive and emotional regression

      In my area, we never had bigger groups of Nazis! Just very few singles
      Thankfully!
      The deep hidden fear of foreigners stayed at my grandparents generation! My parents learned to fight these fears and started to respect them. And I grew up with different nationality background kids!
      So it’s normal to me!
      While my grandparents never met a black person in their whole life!
      I don’t agree with your view about being on the same way as the US, but I’m pessimistic for humanity too!
      Just for different reasons.
      And I wouldn’t finally judge!
      Things can change quickly!

      This lame country tries to hide its own history. World history is barely touched on if it doesn't sell the damn narrative that white people came here to flee persecution, usually religion.
      When you look at where we currently are, you totally see the literal whitewash brainwashing and why so many folks are running around yelling about being persecuted - when nothing is actually happening to them. (Well, the oligarchs keeping the working class poor and falsely blaming immigrants, but that too sells the false narrative. If people don't self-educate and read on their own as well as actually learn about other countries, they end up in a cult wearing stupid red hats.)

      Agreed. The scrambling to paint white ancestors as an understandable underdog is embarrassing. We need to get over the fact that some of our ancestors may have committed heinous acts. The quicker we do, the faster we can look at ourselves for our choices, and not the consequence of our lineage

      Jews lived in ghettos and racism was well and alive in Europe at that time.
      Not saying Australia should have controlled migration--all of western world needs to do so. But Racism coming from former convicts of England is too rich --IMO.

    I love how he intelligently throws jokes; his sense of humor is out of this world. You can tell that this man is a keen observer. He's good at making real-life situations interesting to ponder.
    “Politicians have done a really good job of tricking Americans into fighting about issues that would never have been issues to begin with, so you won’t pay attention to the issues that actually matter.”
    I love this. It’s the same situation in the Philippines. They focus on petty issues and make sure they become the talk of the town so they can cover up the bigger problems they should actually be solving with better solutions. This has been their favorite tactic for years. The worst part, ironically, is this so-called politicians are the troublemakers, not all them, but generally speaking.

    Hi from Germany!
    1. Loved the show, thanks Trevor!
    2. We still have huge problems with right-wing extremism, now more than ever since the end of WW2. A lot of things from History are repeating now, watch the rise of the party "AfD - Alternative für Deutschland". It's really terrifying for a lot of people that did not yet forget history, but about 25-30% of our electorate will probably vote for AfD in the next election. We have laws that should prevent the rise of a fascist party that tolerates or encourages right-wing extremism and some courts already found some parts of AfD guilty for that, but right now it doesn't seem like the complete party gets banned in the near future. Not so good laws and prevention stuff at schools after all.
    3. Yes we are precise, but sometimes we loose ourselfs in it and become unprecise again.

      4. We are also only very aware of a very small part of our brutal history. For instance the Sinti and Roma, the Gay and Trans people and the Poles and Ukrainians that were victims of the Holocaust get frequently ignored. Or the Genocide against the Herero and Nama and our colonialist past is also rarely addressed. Same with the fact that people who worked for the GDR Government and shot people at the border for a living, now get state pensions, while political dissidents of the time don't get much (if any) retirement, because they were imprisoned and didn't have a job. But at least most Germans don't get super offended when that is pointed out, so we are ahead of the US on that

      Americans should learn more about the manhattan project too. History is always biased. Based to suit your narrative. Your people’s narrative. WW2 is seen differently by country to country. Japan committed atrocities in Nanking. And The nations it took during WW2. Was America a saint? Was Russia a saint! Was UK-Canada a saint?
      History is also written by winners. And not black n white…War has multiple sides. Many overlooked forgotten tragedies buried beneath biases. And historically, learning history hasn’t really gave us any lesson other than repeating it in even higher scales and worse consequences. Such will be WW3 every country against USA
