The Oktorail model railway exhibition facility in the Gruga Essen was opened in June 2014 and takes visitors on a journey through time through industrial history.
On the one hand, the value chain of the automotive industry is shown on this model railway, from coal mining to a coking plant, a blast furnace, the delivery of steel to a car factory, to delivery through the Alps to the port of Venice. On the other hand, a journey through time is also integrated. Starting with the loading of coal based on the model from 1965, we are also moving in time. The trains and vehicles are becoming more and more modern, towards the ICE.
This video starts with a brief overview of this model railway, followed by video sequences of the individual sections of the layout.
This model railway system is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., admission is moderate at EUR 1.00 for children under 6 up to EUR 3.90 for adults (as of summer 2014).
In addition to the model railroad, there is also a large play area in which the little ones can control several LGB railways themselves and set up a H0 model railroad. There is a Brio train for the little ones.

Einfach eine tolle Anlage, detailreich, farbig,abwechslungsreich.Klasse!

Hay que verlo, para apreciar el trabajo y magnitud de la maqueta.
Eine Klasse-Anlage mit viel Verkehr und absolut naturgetreu. Da vergeht die Zeit im Flug.
Ein persönlicher Besuch ist sehr zu empfehlen!!! Ich hab die Anlage schon gesehen und werde bald mal wieder 'aufschlagen'.

Ich war gestern auch da. Landschaftlich gesehen hat es mir sehr gut gefallen. Leider fährt hier fast nur rollendes Material in sehr kurzer Länge. Es sollten außerdem auch mehr unterschiedliche Züge rollen. Man(n) sieht auch, dass hier unter Zeitdruck gearbeitet wurde.... Signale stehen nicht gerade, Autowerk wurde nicht sauber verklebt. Wer in der Gegend wohnt bzw. auf der Durchreise ist, der sollte einen Abstecher machen. Der Eintrittspreis ist ok, doch leider an den Parkeintritt der Gruga gekoppelt.
Hab ich auch gedacht :-) Viele kurze Züge und dann (wie so oft) viel zu schnell unterwegs für 1:87. Vielleicht sind die aber auch noch im Probebetrieb.
Die Dachstromab der E- Loks gehören ans Fahrdraht ans sonstenten ist es nicht Vorbildgerecht, dafür sind E - Loks gemacht worden :-( .also nur selbsverarschung
Genauso schrott wie die mwo...zugbildung und signalbilder voellig falsch.teilweise gehn signale gar nicht..traurig
