Lol, I’m my town we had a mall that was basically just a food court with some stores. Food court wasn’t special either, everyone only went for a specific Chinese spot 😂 after 15 years of talks of tearing it down, they finally did 3 months ago.

As a Minneapolis resident, this is just "the mall." It's so normal to me, but then sometimes I'll see tourists there, taking it in like they've fallen down a rabbit hole into Wonderland: _Capitalist Edition_ and I remember that it's pretty impressive 😂
As someone who literally lives 20 mins from that mall, no one will ever confuse the mall of America with a city. First off it is only a single building not a collection of them like every city in existence. And second while yes it is massive I can walk around the edge of it in like 15 mins. Yes It is an impressively large building but comes nowhere near even the size of a small town let alone a city.
I live less than 10 mins from there, it's really fun. Things also get switched out and come in throughout the years. So, ALWAYS new stuff. Great place for hanging out with friends!
As someone who lives in Minnesota really close to the Mall of America it doesn't mean too much to us it's just a mall and we don't really understand why people get so excited about it
Fun fact the Nickelodeon theme park area of the mall used to be a baseball stadium and there is still a singular chair on the wall (I’m from Minnesota so we literally had field trips to M.O.A.)

Something I notice as a Minnesotan is that whenever there’s a short talking about our state most of the comments are from other Minnesotans but I don’t see this for other states

I live a mile away from it. It’s really just an amusement park built around a mall. I don’t much like going only if I absolutely need to. Parking sucks and getting back on the highway can be insane. There’s a smaller mall called Southdale that I like going to because it’s smaller, there’s a DMV office in it, and no highways.
The mall of america is pretty sweet, legoland is awesome, the theme park is a lot of fun, and theres really tons to do, but I always had a problem with the number of stores it has comments because youll find the same store in there 2 or even 3 times sometimes just cause its so big you can fit em in there. But thats a pretty small criticism for how cool it really is. Ive lived in minnesota my whole life though and were super used to it. Like we dont even think of it as a special place, its just kinda a big ass mall to us. We also have the biggest candy store in the world and that place is super cool too. Not part of the mall, actually no where really near it, but both are very very cool places and great to bring kids to.

As a Minnesotan. I have never understood the rest of Americas fascination with the MOA. Like it’s rly cool yeah, but I wouldn’t travel here just to see it.
As a Minnesotan who walks around there now and then I can say it's not really worth it. Unless you're a foreigner there for a shopping spree, you need a specialty shop or you're there for an event it's easier to go to a regional mall like Ridgedale or Maplewood.
Me and everybody I know just refer to it as "The Mall," cause when you say you're going to "The Mall" everybody knows exactly where you're talking about, it's also great for going on walks during February.
Hey! I live within like a 45 minute drive of the MoA, it's absolutely amazing. The food courts are the best part, there's this one restaraunt called "Great Steak" in one of the food courts (the one that isn't overlooking nickelodeon universe) and those sandwiches are goddamn glorious. Just make sure not to spend all your money while you're there! 😂
My dad was a security guard at MOA in the late 90s. One night at closing time i got to go with him and walk through Lego land at night with most of the lights off it was truly an unforgettable and kinda creepy night.

As a Minnesotan, the MOA is cool for those who haven’t been there before. But for those who live right by it, it’s just another mall. I’m old enough to remember Nickelodeon Universe as Camp Snoopy. They still have the Log Chute with Paul Bunyan and Babe the blue ox. Mainly due the fact that it’s a water ride and removing it could shut down the whole park, if not the mall itself.
It’s really not just another mall even for Minnesotans, there’s not another mall anywhere around this state that even comes close to what MOA has to offer. Also, I’m not sure when you visited the mall last but I waited in line longer for food than I did to ride the log chute. Not that I want them to remove it, but the mall would be fine without it. Out of all the things that could shut down a mall (like a shooting perhaps) it’s a strange example to choose 😂
And tons of hotels attached to and is around it so all the out of state visitors have a place to stay. Oh, there's a light rail station so you can get to the nearby airport or throughout the Twin Cities. There were plans on building a casino but who knows if it'll get done.
This is my local mall. I go there a lot. If you know how to navigate it. It's not that big. I love it. Body heat actually heats the mall, and it's cold here♥️
