@@kDathunknownsurprisingly it’s the opposite. Ballet costumes (particularly tutus) are really delicate and super difficult to clean. Tutus can be ruined easily since the fabric they are made of is so thin that they can be easily ripped. Washing also means that over time they will lose their fluffiness faster. Also most are hand beaded and decorated. These are usually done super delicately so it’s super easy for beading to be ruined in a wash. Sequins and some beads can also melt in the dry cleaning process. Most costumes are made with the dance in mind and don’t really have any consideration into the design for cleaning. Because they are so difficult and take so long to clean and often there is only one tutu for certain roles (ie sugerplum) companies and schools who use them so frequently don’t want to risk ruining the tutu in the process of being washed.

Either/and/or: wipe (at least the inside) with a washcloth or disposable cleaning wipes, wear your own invisible clean underwear, shower immediately after, air the costume during at least a whole week before and in between wearing it, give the costume a whiff of your favourite perfume, simply endure it while enjoying the performance and whole experience.🩰
Actually for my case it's a traditional brazilian dance's group so there's no tutu or stones etc, the problem is mainly losing color. So they let it dry and take air before putting in the closet. Other important thing is that we use shorts and a thing we call "fofoca" under the skirts. The blouses are normally white so it can be washed without getting spoiled.

Unfortunately I got diagnosed with ms at 18 and was in a wheelchair by 20 so I couldn't carry on but I'm SO thankful for the fact I was able to throw myself into it for 10 years. Best memories EVER. I'd HIGHLY recommend everyone gets involved. Be that through dancing playing instruments or being backstage crew. It teaches you SO much. I just don't recommend making performing your.all or you'll never really learn who YOU are. 😂 If you're too old to start ballet then go into musical theatre or even ballroom dancing. You'll be SO glad you did. And it's a GREAT skill to have in life. Because you learn how to express your points in an entertaining way, so you can use this in everything from school to your careers. You'll always have to make people understand your point and being able to do so in an entertaining way means that you have a FAR higher success rate than most people. So it can help you work your way up in your chosen field. It's honestly SO helpful. And taught me that some deadlines CAN NOT be moved and you HAVE to get your sh!t together by that exact time and date or you show yourself and your beloved team. There was a LOT of cattiness and competition when I started, early 00s and you HAD to be a size zero, I had a 21in waist but 34 in hips and was labelled as fat, you don't have ANY of that now. We would be rehearsing from 6am till 11pm and not getting home from performing till well gone midnight and had to be up at 6. The days of girls getting away with bullying girls are over. The days of the teachers and directors bullying and breaking girls down is OVER. And the era of overworking children to literal exhaustion is long gone. Adults groping young girls is now a SERIOUS CRIME, unless you get all the way to Hollywood ☠️😝🤣 The toxic side really HAS gone down enough I'd happily enter my daughter. Now. I would NEVER if it was the same as when I was doing it, and her father. Plus that's where many of us met our forever partners and are still happy almost 15 years on. So get you might meet your beloved ❤️😍❤😝🤣

“Cast list will change and we won’t know” the production of the Nutcracker that someone i know was the costume coordinator for this year was called “Mixed Nuts”. That was because they changed the cast for EVERY SHOW and told the dancers the DAY OF. Everyone had to know every part and every costume had to fit every dancer. It was chaos, if that wasn’t blatantly obvious.
When I was in the nutcracker, the party girls had a tradition of putting small charms on the underside of the skirts. But one year they decided to wash them. In a regular washing machine, not a dry cleaner which would have made more sense since they’re costumes. And all of the charms fell of. 😭
The cast list is so scary bc often you randomly have a new role and have to make sure you know the dance and you need new costumes like 10 mins before you go on
In the high school performing arts departments… The orchestra is one of the best parts of these shows! Good for you, for being part of the nutcracker in your own way! I am always amazed by how talented high school orchestra are!
Also orchestra, but in the 90s. I can still sing my horn part through the entire ballet. There are parts of the show that I've never seen with my eyes, only heard with my ears what happens.

SO TRUE on the costumes! Modeling it's very much like this as well. When modeling high end garments, you aren't supposed to wear perfume, deodorant, creamss, lotions or anything that could affect the material/integrity of the garment. You are supposed to keep your hands off. Do everything you can to keep it in pristine condition. When I'm auto, they also wanted you to show up with hair. That was at least one day without washing. So, imagine showing up without washed hair unable to wear deodorant and running around with a lot of people in cramped spaces. Models and dancers smell!!! ❤❤❤❤❤😂😂😂
@@rebeccalazzell5262idk what she's doing with the actual Advil lmao but voltaren gel is like $10, it's a topical nSAID which is the same kind of medicine as Advil and it's changed my life 😃 but I also used to work as an exotic dancer and we used lidocaine spray on our feet to get through full 8 hour night on those awful shoes. Works like a charm 🤌 but you have to pay attention to your feet because it's not stopping any damage from the shoes, just keeping them numb.
the backstage of any play performance is always so lit when you have like two minutes of freedom where your not getting yelled at by the director, memorizing, getting makeup done, comforting overworked and stressed out stage crew, doing hair, or getting dressed.
This is so true tho! 😂 I was in my studio Nutcracker not too long ago and I def danced in dead pointe shoes. Didn’t have time to sleep tho bc I was literally in every single scene 😅😊
