Yeah I think the problem is people are judging PPGZ based on the standard of the original cartoon, which is not what the point of the show. It’s supposed to be based on the original PPG characters but with an anime magical spin to it
The right thing that PPGZ did was that they made their own thing and even gave them a different origin story to tell it in a different way. They were very creative and were trying their best not to tarnish the image of the original. They respected the original. The reboot is garbage.
2 differences that I didn't like were the fact that they weren't the professor's kids (because you know it's extremely creepy for a grown man [especially a scientist] to kidnap 3 random girls to do tests on), and the way their powers worked(as someone else said I thought it would be like a female version of DBZ).
The reboot butchered all the characters expecially Blossom and Buttercup. Gone is the violence, physical humor, satire, and bad puns mixed with good puns. Instead it was full of unfunny non sequitur humor. No set ups or punchlines allowed weird automatically= funny.
As someone who watched the original PPG and PPGZ growing up, here are my thoughts on the matter. The reason PPGZ is great while the reboot is trash is because while PPGZ was based off of the original show, it was original enough that it could stand on its own merits. A lot of things were different about the anime, instead of the girls being made in a lab they were regular girls who got super powers, instead of giant monsters existing because, the concept of black and white z rays explained why the heroes and villains existed and Him was the most powerful being because he made the z rays. The girls were also aged up and made to be more like regular girls that the audience could relate to and how they struggled to be heroes while the PPG were born knowing how to use their powers. We watch them struggle with school and typical problems while everyone relies on them to save the world. Not to mention because they aren't related, the girls don't automatically like each other and they eventually end up forming a family with themselves, the professor, Ken, and Poochi. On the other hand, the reboot is a shitty imitation of the original show. It is too much like the original so it is constantly being compared to it, a slice of life comedy with little to no fighting being compared to the show that is PPG. The answer s painfully obvious why PPGZ is much better than the reboot and may even be on the same level as its original source material.

I kinda love the anime? The plot thickens some times and then return to simple but well, the arc with Bubbles and her childhood friend who turned into a monster is kinda really good...
The only thing I hated is that Buttercup and Blossom didn't have similar character arcs, I feel like those two were the ones who had a lot more room to grow.
I disliked it. The characters weren't as likable and it wasn't as funny. The weapons were a cool addition though, and at least they cared about what they were making.
@@8LiterallyJustTheNumber8 Try watching the reboot. I swear you will not get past the first episode without cringing, feeling weird ect. Once you watch it I'm sure you'll agree PPGZ is much better than the reboot.
The reason the show was called "Z" was actually because it was intended to refer to the final installment of particular series. (PPGZ is the one and only anime adaptation), but it's a plus that they incorporated it into the show with Chemical X. (Nothing to laugh about, and in no way related to a certain other anime) All said and done, I can always enjoy PPGZ for what it tried to do. Also, the reboot is trash.
Hands down? The Reboot. They tried to turn the girls into “tweens” and it didn’t work. The girls lost their childlike innocence a bit in the reboot too. And I really disliked how they made Buttercup act like a dude. Yeah she was a tomboy in the original but she still had her girly vibes she was just more sassy and hot tempered. And I really dislike how they made Bubbles seem like an idiot in the reboot. Bubbles was always the gentle, purest, and “insecure” one. She was innocently naive not a dummy and I really didn’t like how she was involved with computer gaming. I would of had her into fashion or something due to her creative nature but yeah. Blossom was still the same but I hate how she lost a bit of her “level headed-ness.” I didn’t like how she was such a clean freak neither. The PPGZ was more creative and kept the essence of the girls....except Blossom who had like this hero maniac and boy crazy vibe. So yeah reboot was trash and I’m happy they canceled it.
Blossom was the leader of a Magical Girl team in Japan, so her being hit with the dumb stick was actually kind of expected. Apparently, it's inspirational for girls if the lovesick dumb girl can save the day on her own, go figure. Bubbles and Buttercup also had their own differences, like Bubbles being more of the school sweetheart and get a level up in girliness (something I hoped they would do with Reboot Bubbles) and Buttercup being more balanced despite being the brawns of the team. So... yeah, Blossom was just unlucky of being a main heroine in Japan, meaning that she got the dumb shot.
@@richymacmillion That, as I said, was because of Japanese conventions. "Commander and Leader" are not usually the front girls in a magical girl team. In the West, in a team of Brains, Brawn and Heart, the Brains lead. In Japan, the leader is a Heart when Magical Girls are involved.
Honestly, I love the anime. I watched it RELIGIOUSLY as a kid, in Japanese and English, and I loved it just as much as the original PPG. It was actually my introduction to anime, the first one I ever watched. I couldn't even get into Pokémon for long. Nope. I watched Powerpuff Girls Z instead, lol
I cant take this seriously because you straight up said you didnt watch it in the video and then call the anime version bad for not showing an arc that you didn't see. Really? That's like reading the first chapter of a book and then skipping to the end, only reading a few pages in between, and then being mad at the ending after you didnt read the book. Seriously, it's like you're deliberately trying to make fans of this show angry for views
@Rainbow Phoenix I think he actually saw it, but he was to embarrassed to admit that. Bc he’s a guy. So he just said he didn’t see it. Bc otherwise it wouldn’t make sense to make a video on something you haven’t seen. Especially if you’re criticizing it 😅
Ventus TBB- I don’t see the reason why he should lie about something like this. He is a cartoon critic and how he talked about ppgz’s finale shows his lack of research about it. Watching the show makes people feel closer to the characters and their powers. He either didn’t care or didn’t watch the episodes because he treated the lost of their powers as some dumb situation that happened.
While PPGZ isn’t really the go to “yes good show” thing for me, it is better to watch that than the reboot because: You can’t compare PPGZ with PPG, while the reboot forces to you compare
Definitely the anime did better. The idea of a secret older sister was interesting but overall the try hard attempts humor didn’t help the reboot at all.
J J Yeah. Though the struggle of dealing with her powers reminded me of what the girls have done in the movie. Bunny definitely deserved more attention too.
I completely agree, Blossom was treated like sh*t by her sister, the guys she liked, and mostly Buttercup. No one would take her seriously or respect her as a leader because they didn't acknowledge her as one. Everyone always ripped on her for being boy crazy, liking sweets, and being a super hero fanatic, but at least she loved and always wanted to be a hero unlike them. Also, she never made fun of Bubbbles or Buttercup's interests, but they constantly looked at her funny. I can relate to Blossom.
That's the problem of being the lead of a Magical Girl team: ever since Usagi, they are usually lovestruck and bad at everything academical... because that's what Japan thinks is inspiring for girls. They think that making the dumbest and more overtly emotional girl of the group the one that calls the shots and manages to save the day despite her very obvious flaws, that will inspire other girls to net feel down.... which also explains the male side of this idea, the Shonen heroes that are also dumb as a brick and end up OP as heck in their settings. tl;dr Blossom is dumbed down because she's the lead in a Magical Girl team, and those are usually more in the lead for their "can do" attitude than for having the mind of a hundred geniuses.
People..hated the anime version? Edit: This reply section as been going strong for some time now, the different views are Interesting ngl but some are insane as well.

@@InfyFish I hate PPGZ because it had potential to be like the Female equivalent of DBZ instead of some Sailor Moon wannabe crap (And I thought Tokyo Mew Mew was worse). It also confuses me on why they didn't brought back the original voice cast, but some of the voice actors in the dub at least did a good job trying to imitate the old voice cast.
@@InfyFishYour Answers: Q1:I'm confused on what you mean by this. Are you trying to say you agree with that it should have been DBZ for girls or something else ? Q2: It's a Cartoon Network property, they could have easily just brought back the voice cast from the Original cartoon. But judging how it never aired in America, I'm amusing Cartoon Network of America didn't care/want to be involved with the anime despite being based off one of their most popular franchise.
Side note - the Giant robot thing. That happened in the original PPG. Just in case everyone forgot ^.^ Only in the original using the robot to fight with actually destroyed the city even worse than it would have been if they fought the monster themselves. And the mayor banned the use of the robot as a result.
Ah yes, the 'cure' that turned out to be worse than the disease... I mean really Prof, you couldn't bother to put guidance systems into your ridiculous missile launchers? I think the whole robot was a parody of Japanese mecha shows in the first place.
@@neorenamon Getter Robo to be exact. Involved 3 jets that could separate and combine into 3 different robots specializing in aerial combat, ground combat and underwater combat.
One my biggest gripes with the anime is turning Blossom into a stereotypical, magical girl lead, instead of her original personality. Because we seen tons of those types of love freak magical girl leads, that it would have been awesome to see anime Blossom be the smart girl pink lead which is very rare. Just shows that some in the Japanese entertainment industry can be just as formulaic in their own ways when it comes to shows. But I agree with the fact that the reboot is a husk of what the original was.
Well it’s actually because Japan loves it’s cliches and would prefer to adhere to them rather than try to divert from the formula But that’s mainly for anime cliches and it’s usually because they’re more comfortable with overusing them if they’re safe
Apparently, dumb leaders are inspirational because they show that you can save the world even if you lack the talent. Also... you really can't relate to a girl whose IQ is like 200 or something, so that had to go. That's another reason: We have a very level headed genius, an insecure girly girl and an over confident tomboy. You need to balance that out somehow.
the reboot is in ever account, undeniably, objectively worse then Z. the "reboot" feels at times almost ashamed of it's source mattrel and things like miss bellum and the like.
they removed miss bellum cause "she was not a good role model"... kinda ironic that the creator of the reboot only judged her by her body and not the actual great character and role model she actually was. But nope, she was "too sexy"... freakin idiots
While is not as good as the original in some ways, I do agree that PPGZ wasn't as bad at all, at least it knew what it wanted to be, not just an anime adaptation, but is own thing and having its own identity, the 2016 tho...? Idon't even know what it wants to be...Reboot, Sequel of the original? besides for one or two jokes that made me laugh and the Bliss, a character with a lot of potential, there's really nothing good on the 2016 version.

Ppgz had its own identity, its different enough to separate from the original. I’m not seeing the Z Girls to be the same as the og Girls. The Reboot on the other hand insisted that they are the new original Girls and they just butchered everything.
Me before watching the video: Pfft! Obviously PPGZ was better. Me while watching the video: ...well damn, didn’t think it was that badly written 😔....PPGZ is still better than the reboot tho
Bro the reboot is garbage. PPG was my childhood, and so was PPGZ. I love and respect them both equally. You can see the intention and the heart put into each. But with the reboot, it’s obviously just for money. It feels hollow and heartless. They didn’t even add the RRB.
Hard to say. Both had potential, and Z had some originality with it's piece, but they both are just to bright and colorful for my taste. I actually watched the anime, and i have to say, much like Phantomstrider's opinion on the reboot, it focused too much on the girls and their hum drum lives. The Villains depicted in it were actually less intimidating then their original counterparts (except HIM, he was pretty well done), even the Amoeba Boys. Speaking of Boys, the Rowdyruff's were such a dissapointment, coming off less as sexist rivals and more like sexist brats, who didn't even have any powers to fight them (yeah they got some in ep 51, i know), or hardly any appearances (2 episodes, 1 guest appearance, and 1 cameo >:( ) As for the reboot, from what little i saw, I hate how it imitates TTG, instead of trying to be more like it's counterparts. While it did try to bring in some new blood to the villain rack, it more or less shat on the Main gallery (especially the Ruffs....dammit!). The new recurring characters were just awful I mean... A rainbow panda with eyes like he's on ecstasy, a freaking annoying pony/unicorn whatever, and why the F#%$ did they think they needed to include that distasteful excuse of a 4th PPG? Overall, I'd have to say the reboot was the worst. Cause while Z could have been better, it at least tried to be something like the original...heroic. You can actually feel for the characters and what they're trying to do. The reboot...like i said, it's like TTG, an insult to something once grand. I mean if your going to be ridiculous, at least do it with some taste. Yes the original had it's more cartoony bits too, at least there was thought put into it.
JKSNXHSUHXGVS Japan gave the professor a family of his own aside from the girls. But yes, the mother has a canon appearance (you can check ppgz wikia it has a photo.)
As a weeb I loved power puff girls Z, especially when I was younger, I thought It was like an anime spin off and in my opinion its way better than the reboot
I liked the anime because while it was admittedly very ADD in it's structure, it was a love letter to the original series crew who made powerpuff girls because they loved anime which is what the designs of the girls were based off of in the first place. Specifically chibis. As well as the way Mojo JoJo would speak in an almost Japanese speech Pattern. Plus since Japan tends to (for the most part) respect its younger audiences unlike the USA, they were able to finally explain why the original series crew never approved of the RowdyRuff Boys being shipped with the PowerPuff Girls, and even tried to make fun of the idea of the ship in one episode. The boys are genetic twins of the girls. (Something i knew when i was 5YEARS OLD. IF A 5 YR OLD DOESN'T APPROVE OF A SHIP YOU KNOW THE FANDOM IS MESSED UP) Genetic twins, for those who don't know, are imperfect clones with the most glaring differences being biologically younger and being the opposite gender to the source material. Like Danielle "Danni" Phantom from Danny Phantom for example.
The RRB are not related to the PPG in any way in the Original. They were made with completely different ingredients. As for Shipping, you would think that the RRB trying to kill the PPG and having no redeemable qualities would have stopped it but it didn't. Even if everyone is allowed to ship whatever they want.
Yeah, I never really got the shipping in the anime version. I tried to get it, because it seemed cute when you treat it as if the RRBZ aren’t LITERALLY the PPGZ “children”. But you can’t really do that. It’s just gross and weird now that I look back on it. I do understand why people would ship it in the original as @MN 9 pointed out. But even still, it’s quite clear what the RRB are and what their self-acclaimed purpose is. It’s different when you age them up and ship them, because then you get all kinds of different possibilities, especially since within the show itself there’s an episode dedicated to portraying the RRB and PPG as teens, and showing that there was an attraction between the two groups. Even though most of the fandom agrees that those versions were shallow, and completely devolved from their original personalities, they’re still just as valid and just as canon regardless.
The girls and the boys were not related in the slightest in the original. I never considered shipping them, 1 because the boys were irredeemably evil (mojo jojo their creator was more redeemable than them) and because they exploded from being kissed by the girls, meaning they couldn't possibly work.
To be completely fair on the robot part, I do remember the original series having the professor create a robot for the girls called Dynamo. Doesn't beg the question of why the girls even need a robot, but it's not a PPG Z original creation.
Bruh that PPG knockoff from the early/mid 2000s is better than the reboot. I don't even remember what the heck it was called, but it was certainly better. Probably just talking about Z-Squad, but I definitely didn't watch that as a kid.
I watched PPGZ only once and that was last year, its what really got me into anime and.... why am I even saying anything the entire comment section agrees with me anyway
I watched PPGZ when I was a pre-teen I cried when it was over cause I wanted more PPG content :/ also HIM in the og PPG is the Devil they just never called him that cause CN didn’t allow it they even joke about it in his introduction saying his name is to evil to say lol
The original Powerpuff girls was my childhood. I got introduced to the anime while in middle school and I've fallen in love with it ever since! 😍❤💙💚 I just recently re-watched it today! 10/10.
the reboot. it fundamentally doesn't understand the core concept of the original series, at least the anime used the original villains more, there are only a small hand full of him episodes in the reboot but had even more in the original series. the reboot could've been great if it slowly introduced the classic villains and then the newer villains.
If the PPG reboot was like PPGZ I think people would have loved it. I've seen a few PPGZ episodes on RUclips and it looked awesome. It was what I wanted the PPG reboot to be.
@@arnold20139 Same with me. I have seen the first three episodes and I think it's a really good series. Probably gonna find and watch all of the series.
Imagine disliking the PPGZ. PPGZ was such a soulful remake of the original story with a more magical girl esque feel. They made it work really well and its still one of my favorite anime to this day
Everyone is talking about how the PPG twerked in the reboot, but not about how in one of the reboot episodes, Princess Bluebelle mistook Buttercup for a prince and kissed her.....Yes, an adult kissed a child, and on the lips.
3:57 Oof what you said there isn't going to age too well. Though it was played off as a joke in the original the girls do act like those said aforementioned late 20th century stereotypical girls, in that one slumber party episode, and some other episodes further on. I also suggest you check out PPGZ in its original dub since the English Dub does the show no justice.
I'm guessing you watched the Dub of PPGZ because I can't even stand the awful dubbing I watched the show with Subtitles and loved it- despite how nonsensical it was
sadly have to agree. as much I dislike the anime, it's still a lot better than this sloppy reboot. The anime at least put some effort into itself, while the reboot just tries to walk on the success of the original without actually understanding what made the original so great.
What I find weird is that I was oddly on-board with the Magical Girl redesign in the first half of PPGZ - I liked anime and magical girl stuff so this was a refreshing take on the characters and gave the show a chance to do serialized storytelling. Obviously though even the Japanese fans of OPPG must have been disoriented cause after the dec/jan break mid-season all of the magical-girl tropes were removed. We no longer saw the PPGZ in their secret identities, Rolling Bubbles' boyfriend (the one who chose to live their life as a monster) disappeared and was never mentioned again and most annoyingly no more transformations. . . Which to me was weird cause I thought all that stuff was Awesome! What I didn't think was cool was that the series went from smart well though out storylines to mindless drivel (the complete opposite of the OPPG who started out as mindless drivel but later on had seriously dark, emotional and even heart wrenching stories. Lest we forget Dick Herdly.)
Ppgz is my first anime that i actually love as a child and the only anime I'm watching when i was 7 I really love it as i love the og ppg but when I heard the reboot, i tried watching it and it is a disaster.
I really liked PPGZ just because it gave me a huge nostalgia trip and embodied that sense of nonsensical anime I love. Sometimes you just wanna watch something nonsensical for the sake of it (not only that, but it was extremely different from the original and I respected that). When I saw the reboot, I tried to hold onto it, just as I did for Teen Titans Go, just because I missed the franchise. But as things progressed, just like TTG, I couldn't do it anymore and had to let go. I wouldn't even watch it if I wanted nonsensical cartoon logic. It wasn't even a good "dumb cartoon". It just became a dumb cartoon and I had to stop watching all together. So uh- moral of the story: Watch PPGZ and the original series.
Also, I’d like to add that at the end of PPGZ, they actually do get their powers back. It’s true. I also wish he would’ve talked about the RRB in here because we all know that 90% of the PPG fan base, especially back then, was just shiting out RRB or RRBxPPG or PPNKG x RRB etc. content.
One thing in defense of the reboot regarding presenting the characters is that in the original series they didn't do it either, it also starts with them doing something and being called by the mayor, I think the only ones with a small presentation were Princess, Him and someone else villain. And it has some good chapters, or at least they are not bad, and although the thing with the fourth girl was stupid, the final battle against Him was very good, apart from that, there is not much more to say. (The only "personality change" that I liked was Princess's) and the anime is simply decent, sometimes very silly or cheesy, but it also has its funny clips, at least with the Latin dubbing
@@M567dk all because she had big breasts and the whole female impowerment thing. hence why miss keens breasts were removed too. and the fact that the mayor tends to be the one saving the girls CONSTANTLY

I still hate the anime version, but even I have to agree that it's 1000 times better than the sloppy reboot.
Hands down?
The thing i hated about the anime was just that they blossom character just like Usagi from sailor moon
@@khaliyahjefferson832 exactly. She lost her “commander and leader” vibe.
@@irrespondibledude....i read your post already. You don’t gotta repeat yourself. I just don’t care too much about the anime version. 🤪🤪🤪

I loved the anime as well. It does a decent job as an A.U.

@UCvPL8-jUKqmrStnkqWxrrUg - pretty much
Definitely the anime did better. The idea of a secret older sister was interesting but overall the try hard attempts humor didn’t help the reboot at all.
I didn't like Bliss she looked like a OC over powered character and I rather if they were gonna bring another ppg it should have been Bunny! 🐰
J J Yeah. Though the struggle of dealing with her powers reminded me of what the girls have done in the movie. Bunny definitely deserved more attention too.
@@FallenHalfWingedWolf omg I forgot about Bunny, I haven't seen the original since I was like 7
the reboot needed all the original voice actors to be good but they didn't use the original actresses for the girls
The fighting scenes sadly sucked and the Rowdy Ruffs we're only in one ep we're they make the Car Race Bliss is ok but she has bunnys purple colour
Z wasn’t bad but could have been better if it was redone. Blossom was done dirty though.
Yeah.. they made her less of a symbol of female independence and intelligence and more of a boy crazy, candy loving freak.
@@rachelcreighton8962
I thought the candy obsession was something that everyone affected by chemical Z had.
@@awkward_chaos8322 It felt like they put the shonen protagonists trope on her which really felt weird as she was quite the opposite in the original.

But judging how it never aired in America, I'm amusing Cartoon Network of America didn't care/want to be involved with the anime despite being based off one of their most popular franchise.
PPGZ is what is nostalgic and a nice touch it wasn’t perfect but I wouldn’t compare it to the dumpster fire in 2016

I personally really liked Z , it was cute and took and unique approach to the idea of the Powerpuff Girls
Well it’s actually because Japan loves it’s cliches and would prefer to adhere to them rather than try to divert from the formula
But that’s mainly for anime cliches and it’s usually because they’re more comfortable with overusing them if they’re safe

Ppgz was an absolute banger, one of my fav renditions
Hard to say.
Both had potential, and Z had some originality with it's piece, but they both are just to bright and colorful for my taste.
I actually watched the anime, and i have to say, much like Phantomstrider's opinion on the reboot, it focused too much on the girls and their hum drum lives. The Villains depicted in it were actually less intimidating then their original counterparts (except HIM, he was pretty well done), even the Amoeba Boys. Speaking of Boys, the Rowdyruff's were such a dissapointment, coming off less as sexist rivals and more like sexist brats, who didn't even have any powers to fight them (yeah they got some in ep 51, i know), or hardly any appearances (2 episodes, 1 guest appearance, and 1 cameo >:( )
As for the reboot, from what little i saw, I hate how it imitates TTG, instead of trying to be more like it's counterparts.

Wait he’s actually a clone?! I’m ashamed that I didn’t know this.
@@awkward_chaos8322 The grow up versions of them in "The City of Clipsville" ARE non-canon. Buttercup herself said those clips were dumb.
The girls and the boys were not related in the slightest in the original. I never considered shipping them, 1 because the boys were irredeemably evil (mojo jojo their creator was more redeemable than them) and because they exploded from being kissed by the girls, meaning they couldn't possibly work.
@@lilchristuten7568 they are irredeemably evil (except maybe Boomer) but they jo longer go KABOOM when kissed

sadly have to agree. as much I dislike the anime, it's still a lot better than this sloppy reboot.
Ppgz is my childhood when i was 4-7 it sad its over
Old villains are awsome
But the
New villains are lame and boring worse
It’s true. I also wish he would’ve talked about the RRB in here because we all know that 90% of the PPG fan base, especially back then, was just shiting out RRB or RRBxPPG or PPNKG x RRB etc. content.
Reboot. Z was actually fine.

(The only "personality change" that I liked was Princess's)
and the anime is simply decent, sometimes very silly or cheesy, but it also has its funny clips, at least with the Latin dubbing

@@YLGABL The why interestingly enough mostly seems to be related to VERY heavy restrictions put in place on the writers and animators of that series, or at least that's what i've heard them claim which I would take with a grain of salt.
I loved PPGZ so much 😭 I live for those magical girl transformations
I liked the anime in a it’s okay to watch especially if I’m gonna draw or something, Blossom being boy crazy was just cringe idk. Reboot has problems, but I like one episode and that’s it.
Gotta realize that Blossom was a teenager in PPGZ
Biggay69 😐......I was dumb to forget that part. How embarrassing.😅
The Classic PPG and PPGZ are both ppg shows that I grew up with and watching this vid gives me so much nostalgia
I feel as if this video was kinda something to just fill in a slot for the content. That's just the vibe I get from this video, like a English paper you just had to push out for a sake of the grade
Did you forget the girls had a giant robot that looked like Blossom *IN the original show*
Powerpuff girls z's him reminds me on the joker
The giant robot in Z is a reference to Dynamo, the giant red robot in the original series.
Personally, I got quite the amount of laughs out of PPGZ.
It had a number of good moments.
But it is certainly not a masterpiece or anywhere near the level of the OG PPG.
Most episodes were "okay" at best and "meh" at worst in my opinion.
I still like it though.
The anime has something that the reboot didn't had...
At least they did TRY to make GOOD changes, regardless of the outcome, they did TRY.
