Namaste Eileen! Thank you for joining us for practice! We're happy to hear that you found the instructions for the sun salutations helpful. If you find it challenging to step forward from mountain pose to lunge you can always place blocks under the hands to create more space. You can also simply step as far forward as you're able to, then use the hands to help the foot forward into proper position. We hope this is helpful! Take care and enjoy the practice. Hari Om.
@@AkhandaYogaOfficial Great. I've been placing my hand on the calf & directing the leg forward. I have also tried kneeling first & then bringing that leg forward. Is there something that can improve one's ability to bring the leg forward unassisted over time? I notice that I move between all the other poses much more easily after daily practice. I did 6 rounds daily for 21 days.
@@enehiley Namaste. That is wonderful! Sounds like you are feeling the many benefits of the practice. Bringing the foot forward smoothly can be dependent upon a number of things. The length of the arm bone, for example, may be what is preventing you from stepping the foot through without assistance. This of course cannot be changed, but you can add blocks under the hands, or continue as you are, with helping the foot forward. It could also be that we need some additional strength in the core, to lift the hips up as we tuck the knee in towards the chest to step forward. It could also be from something occurring in the hip or hip flexor that is preventing the mobility. We recommend that you simply continue to practice. The transitions will become smoother and easier over time as the body becomes accustomed to the practice. You're doing a wonderful job! Continue to practice with dedication and sincerity. Wishing you all the best. Hari Om.
Thank you for these instructions. Is there is way to build strength to be able to do chest/chin to ground? Currently don't have the strength to correctly do this pose. Namaste.
Namaste. Yes with acceptance of where you are today, time and daily practice. You are retraining your body, creating new neurological and muscular pathways; all of which take time. In addition keep your elbows tucked close to your body and externally rotate your palms. Remember that you are already whole, complete and always divine. Namaste!!! Thank you for your question! Both Hatha Yoga and Raja Yoga are descriptions of paths the yogis used towards realization or liberation. Hatha Yoga is a very holistic path and has more limbs than what most people realize.
