Too funny. I just made a reservation for the beginning of May with the guy who is likely that very painter, Antonio Geraldo Abara, to have him do minor body work and a full paint job on that 2004 Foretravel U320 we're fixing up to sell. After he does the paint and we drive it back to Atlanta, it will get two new windshields and then it goes on the market.
I can't remember how many of these types of shades I've repaired over the years for friends and family. I'm also tall and thin. All the people in our group now call me "slim shady "
Another Great video! I have restrung this type of shades too. Don't get in a hurry, take your time and it all comes together. I love to watch someone else do the job as you can always learn something like tying a Fly fishing knot and the aluminum crimps.👍 When you lifted your shade, I noticed that you have a "creeping seal". We just had all of our windows redone. Our 1999 Beaver Marquis needed to have the windows resealed. Contacted RV Fog Doctor in Arkansas, extremely reasonable price to do all 10 windows. Possible that you have someone on the west coast that will do that too. FYI, there is a piece of metal in the old seal. The longer you let it go, it etches into the glass due to the vibration going down the road. Hope this helps and Thanks, James, for the excellent videos.
James, Thanks for the video! Shades made no sense to me! Now for a tip for you. Put some 4/0 steel wool in your tool box. When you need to clean your glass, dry rub your glass with the steel wool. It will get your glass cleaner than that spray stuff!
This kind of reminds me of "put tab A into slot B". Nope, not me. If they break it's going to be roller shades. Yeah I know it's cheaper to fix it but I got a headache just watching James.
Yep. I can see me tackling this job and totally messing it up and buying house blinds to replace them with. LOL You definitely made this understandable though.
Funny you mentioned that United Shade is a Dicor company. When I received the Dicor I ordered today, I happened to read the bottom of the tube which read that they are an Air Excel company. It's all the same food chain.
Thanks for that video i have one to fix on my bus. I also have the creepy seal on many windows on my old Foretravel, i would be very interested in seeing you fix those window seals.
Good job. I have the same blinds in my 1995 Prevost H3-40 - Featherlite. An important point is that the strings will stretch over time and the blind will slowly slide down on it's own. To remedy this the strings just need to be pulled slightly tighter and re-secured in the string clamp. PS my previous Class A was a 1996 34ft Safari Serengeti with the exact same cupboards and hardware as yours because Safari was bought out by Beaver the Monaco or something along those lines, cheers from Vancouver Canada.
Excellent video, will be very helpful, even just understanding them will help me keep them in the best possible shape. But what about the one in my 2000 Foretravel U320 with some sort of sauce splashed across it? Probably have to completely disassemble and clean. Daunting. I'm going to work on cleaning and resealing the windows on my entry door first (so fogged I can barely see out.) And while I'm at it, some crazy black goo seals in other windows, too. Found some good videos on RUclips.
Good video, I have these on my trailer. Pain in the butt. Luckily don't have them on my Class A. Is that the Playa Bonita? Fortunately didn't look too busy cause when it does get busy, parking gets really tight. Headin for The Reef next week. Larger wide open spaces, good restaurants. The Wrecked and The Mare Blu.
Great video! I need to do this to one of my shades too. I really like the starch idea, would it also help to flip the pleats so what was the bottom of each section ends up as the top?
I can't wait for the creeping seal video I have the same problem. Also you were on top of the roof, the rv had 2 solar panels and then it look like it had a smaller one can you tell me what the smaller panel is/does? I have a 96 Beaver
I added 2 large 330watt panels at the rear and replaced the original single 100wat with 2 panels as it was 20 years old but the kept the original charge controller
We just had our 10 windows resealed in Arkansas. RV Fog Doctor did an excellent job. Extremely reasonable, under $3500 for all. There is a piece of metal in the old seal that etches the glass on the inside as you drive down the road. We needed to reseal our windows as they were leaking. If we were going to take the window out, why not repair the creeping seal. We now have dry windows and no creeping seals. Happy Days!
@ Absolutely!! I don't know where you are located, but there is one in Hudson, FL Suncoast Designers and another one in TX, but I don't know their name. Arkansas - $275/window regardless of the size and $375 for the Driver window as it is two windows in one. It took them 2 1/2 days to complete our 10 windows. Great service and very kind folks. They also do windshield and collision repair.
Hi AZ!!! Please i need your help, we buy a 2009 Cresendo Stream gulf C40K And me and my hub don’t know nothing about it… she runs good, 3 slides opens, but the bed doesn’t stretch and the stabilizer doesn’t come out.. CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE A VIDEO ABOUT IT 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼 THANK YOU IN ADVANCE
Rocky Point, one of my favorite places on the planet!
I'm happy to hear that, I got a lot of push back from other people

Hello James, great job , sometimes theses little jobs can be a little tricky. I don’t know if I would have the patience, lol. Thanks for sharing!
I’ve had to replace strings on 3 of my shades, I just changed the broken strings, so far so good!! Thanks for the starch tip I need to do that.

You got the Millennial seal of approval, "ooh so pleaty!" 😂
Great job and thanks for sharing these tips!!
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

Yet ANOTHER good and useful video to SAVE! Thank you, James! 🙂
Glad you enjoyed it!

Heck yah !😊

LOL

Thanks James. Excellent tutorial on fixing these shades. Can be daunting if not broken down in steps like you just did.
I'm glad you found it helpful!
James another great job, Thanks.
Great video James, as always
and you're amazing. Thank you.
Regards, Myk
If only I would have seen this sooner. Lol. At least I can repair the other shades I just leave closed.
Thanks for that video i have one to fix on my bus. I also have the creepy seal on many windows on my old Foretravel, i would be very interested in seeing you fix those window seals.
We have two dogs 🐕 that love to look outside. If we don’t have the shade up 4 or 5 inches then I have a repair!

You're welcome, glad you found it helpful!
Looks like you have a creeping window seal also. We used RV Glass Solutions when we were in Mesa. 😊
I’ve done these and they are a pain. Good demo.

You go, boy!!! I have this problem, thank you for direction!!!
Thank you!

I'm planning a trip to Playa Bonita soon. Hoping to have my Holiday Rambler diesel pusher repainted there in Puerto Penasco.
I hope your trip goes well! Lots of paint jobs were done here while I was here!

Wow😮 Not sure I would have the patience for this. Too tedious. Looks like alot of open spots at Playa Bonita
a lot of open space, I was surprised
Nice tutorial! But I have a feeling, nobody will fix this nowadays if you go to an RV shop. They will probably just replace them.
How did you tow your Prius? Didn’t see a hitch point on the front of your Prius?
He uses a tow dolly. Can't flat tow a Prius.

I would need to have you stand over my shoulder and provide direct supervision on about 2 or 3 coaches before I would attempt this project 😂
How easy would it be to replace the bleated shade with roller ones
Easyish, just adds up to a large purchase price if you are doing all of them.
I could have used this video 6 months ago. My Tiffin blind has 6 strings and 4 springs, what a nightmare to fix.
Yeah, I’ve been there.
Oh man.... working on those things is so un-fun. lol..... had to rebuild a few of them on my right. total PITA.
Do you flat tow the Prius?
No. I dollie
Thank God for MCD blinds. 😂😂😂
Those are much harder to fix and the parts are expensive, and I swear break more
@ Don’t jinx me Brother. We had the factory install ours and yes, they are pricey. Nice work on the pleats with the starch. That’s brilliant.
That was complicated. I would not look forward to doing that.
First ...
Wooo hooo
