  • This is one of the coolest solo flight displays I have ever seen. Absolutely insane flying by Captain Steven 'Vrieske' de Vries from the Belgian AIr Force at sunset in very humid weather pulling clouds and fluff with the 'Dream Viper' an F-16 Fighting Falcon painted with a special black and green livery and snake motives! :)
    'Vrieske' totally killed the flight with an outstanding piloting skill performance, accompanied by plenty of flare throwing and crazy bright afterburner glory... bless sunset flight displays!
    It's funny because, earlier this summer, we watched him perform almost the exact same flight routine (with small variations) at Flygfesten 2022 in Dala-Järna, on the yellow-X painted F-16 in Tiger Meet livery, and now we finally got the chance to watch him fly the 'Dream Viper' livery instead (Black-Green), so that was pretty cool! ^^
    It rained the entire evening which was kind of a bummer but this helped create the conditions for this awesome flight, so can't be too mad about it, can we? ;D
    That said, out of the two cameras that we were filming with, one died due to getting wet (the viewfinder and screen wouldn't work) so we missed the super-close-up shots. Thankfully the camcorder recovered enough to be used the next day.
    The bonus scenes are from the second day of the show. We couldn't risk losing our plane back home so we had to exit the airshow before it ended (to avoid the exit queue) but we still managed to snatch a few cool shots, although from far away... :'(
    If we had known our flight would be delayed by several hours we would have stayed, BUMMER! (*∧*)
    Captain Steven “Vrieske” De Vries from Belgian Air Component is the first F-16 pilot outside the US to clock, 5,000 hours on the mighty Viper. He has been a member of the Belgian Air Force since 1990 where he flies with the 31st “Tigers” Squadron at Kleine Brogel Air Base.

    The General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine multirole fighter aircraft originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force (USAF). Designed as an air superiority day fighter, it evolved into a successful all-weather multirole aircraft. Over 4600 aircraft have been built since production was approved in 1976. Although no longer being purchased by the U.S. Air Force, improved versions are being built for export customers. In 1993, General Dynamics sold its aircraft manufacturing business to the Lockheed Corporation, which in turn became part of Lockheed Martin after a 1995 merger with Martin Marietta.
    The Fighting Falcon's key features include a frameless bubble canopy for good visibility, side-mounted control stick to ease control while maneuvering, an ejection seat reclined 30 degrees from vertical to reduce the effect of g-forces on the pilot, and the first use of a relaxed static stability/fly-by-wire flight control system that helps to make it an agile aircraft. The F-16 has an internal M61 Vulcan cannon and 11 harpoints for mounting weapons and other mission equipment. The F-16's official name is "Fighting Falcon", but "Viper" is commonly used by its pilots and crews, because of a perceived resemblance to a viper snake as well as the Colonial Viper starfighter on Battlestar Galactica which aired at the time the F-16 entered service.

    You can't get enough of it, and I totally get that! It was a fantastic show. I stayed until 7:00 PM and was then able to take the bus directly to the parking lot without a long wait. Beautifully filmed.

    He surely burned a lot of fuel!
    It makes you wonder where it all goes in such a small aircraft....

    • @Airguardian
      @Airguardian  2 года назад +1

      This is the airshow way! ^^
      Fuel is often stored in the wings and fuselage tanks but western aircraft are so small they usually can't carry much, and that's why you always see them flying with external stores, whereas russian aircraft are bigger to allow for more internal fuel capacity and get rid of external stores that mess RCS and kinematic performance ;)
