I retired last year and a few weeks ago, I taught myself to loom knit from your videos! They are so clear and complete in the information presented! Some instructors go too fast and don't include "details" or repeat things that are important to know; or sometimes their camera is placed at a bad angle. But yours are very easy to understand and to see exactly what I need to do. I've only been knitting for several weeks but only now saw this beginner's video. I'll still add it to my collection of favorites. I learned this craft in order to join a knitting group for charity that several ladies at my church belong to. I showed a few of the ladies all the hats I made so far and they were impressed....I give alot of the credit to you! Thank you!!
I agree with you Denise. In the beginning, I would have to watch a video 4-5 times before i could start. Then I would start and pause until I got the stitch pattern down.
No WAY Lisa - there are soOOOOOoooooo many projects you can knit during the summer and spring. OmG - you just gave me a great idea for video. "What to knit when it's hot outside" or "What to knit when it's not cold" - what do you think? What say you - will you watch it? 😉
These are great tips. I’m just starting and have just made the yoda hat and lots and lots of slippers. I discovered I need to learn how different weights and fibers feel on my hands and stuff, so all the slipper socks are literally just me trying and learning the different fibers.
Thank you for ALL your "how to" videos Denise. They are clear and concise, and very encouraging, which is what beginners need. I've been knitting off and on for a couple of years but I still consider myself a beginner. Thank you again!
I learned how to loom knit watching your videos. My very first project was a hat which came out perfect thanks to your video instructions. I consider myself a beginner/intermediate. Thank you so much for all the great tips on your videos & website. Your videos are always so full of useful information that I hang on to every word. I take all of this to heart ❤️. The advice is true, useful & so helpful. I can only benefit from your years of experience as a loom knitter. Stay safe, hugs 🤗 and be well. 🧶🧶🧶🧶🥰
Thank you for this… my dad recently passed and was a knitter, I was left all his knitting stuff and I’ve never knitted so I’ve been looking for videos and tutorials and yours have been the best where I understand it all. ❤
Even though I have been loom knitting for quite a while, years in fact, I still found this video to be quite useful and helpful. Thank you so much for the hard work that you do in producing these videos. I especially agree with the last message. Great video!
Always save the wrapping from your skeins, so that way if you need more yarn you have the batch number/ dye lot number to reference. Don’t think you’ll “recognize” the color later on.
Yes, true!! also you'll know what the yarn is made of, you can't mix acrylic and wool, they don't wash up the same and the finished product once made with morph it's shape if you wash it!
I watched this before I ever loomed or looked at any instructional videos. Just watched it again and realized it was you, my absolute FAVORITE teacher:) Thank you for doing what you do, this 65 year old lady is absolutely enjoying looming SO much!(and yes I had one in the 70s but there wasn’t anyone to show me how then😉)
Thank you. I'm a long term crocheter and I'm looking into other types of projects. I started plushy sewing but I missed a mindless task for when I can't completely focus on my work but crochet doesn't always look great to me. I just don't love the way the stitches look especially on the more mindless projects. I love the look of knit and always wanted to try it but I learned crochet as a kid and so picking up knitting has been extremely challenging for me. My friend recommended loom knitting as it's super easy and I finally picked it up. I started on my own out of impatience and after making a really bad looking project (though I enjoyed it) I am finally ready to sit down and listen to proper advice and be patient. This is exactly what I needed and your advice helped me further to push down my impatient frustration and I look forward to learning properly. Thank you so much, keep doing what you do!
I have done every one of those except #10. Great advice. I started 7 years ago, did mistakes 1-9 , got frustrated and am just putting my toes back in, starting from step 1. Thanks for your videos as I feel more prepared to head back into loom knitting.
Thank you Denise this video was helpful. I am just starting over after a few years of Knotty Knitter Looms but never gave much attention to them or tried learning anything other than the knit stitch. To be honest I did not know there was so many other stitches. Now I have the Loops and Thread Loom and found you a few a week and now learning more about different stitches. What to do and not to do. I will take a few and study on some of the things you posted.
This is a great video. When I first started to teach myself how to loom knit I wanted to make a scarf thinking it would be easy. That wasn't the case. I went back and found smaller projects to work on and it definitely built up my confidence and excitement in loom knitting. I love watching your videos and learning!
Hi, I love your videos . There is so much info in them. I watch them over and over. I have crochet for over 40 years . I've always had the knack of being able to figure out the math to adjust the size of the patterns. I even am a designer for graphgahns in multiple stitches. Even with all this knowledge of gauge and other aspects of crochet. I am a newbie to this loom knitting. I have not made anything yet just watching your videos. I have tried a few stitches to. Try and get a feel for them . I was given a kids starter kit. With a 16 peg round loom and a 4 peg spool loom. It came with chunky yarn and a plastic crochet hook about the size of a f hook. I am going to buy a loom hook and give it a honest try . I think I will have successe with all your teaching
Hi mam So nice tips... but I owned many small gauge looms kb looms knit UK looms... and Boye looms 3full sets... but ur project video tutorial was help me lot... God's grace Always with us.. thank you
A very timely and to-the-point video! I've been loom knitting off and on for the last year and have never really settled down to apply myself to a project. I find your videos very easy to understand and your voice soothing! After watching this video, I can admit to putting too much pressure on myself to make a project 'perfect' right from the start instead of taking the time to learn the different stitches and just enjoy the journey. Thank you for your videos and I subscribed to your channel.
I needed these tips, Looma Hat 🧶 I was fixing to break a few of these ‘rules’ with my first planned projects & you’ve saved me a lot of frustration & heartache 🤗
Great advice! I just started knitting this past November and it was needle knitting. I got my first set of looms as an xmas gift. I'm a sucker for time limits. Well not exactly, but once I get into it, I'll sit there all day knitting my project. I just listen to music and I'll end up finishing whatever I'm working on within 3 days lol. I also fell into the trap of showing off my projects to my friends and I gave some away as a gift. They loved them so I must be doing something right 🤷🏾♀️
Thank you so much for this video, much appreciated. I started loom knitting about 1 year and 5 months ago, knitted a few hats and scarves already. I really enjoy your videos cause you explain so clearly and it's so easy to follow. The only thing that I'm battling with at the moment is my scarves as they are different on the ends, but after comimg across this video of yours I really feel so encouraged. My family even tell me that my hats and even my scarves are so nice. Anyway I shall keep on trying and making scarves, not going to give up. I really am enjoying loom knitting, it's so relaxing. Thanks so much for your encouraging words. 👍🌹
Connie you just need to find the cast-on and cast-off that works best for you. For me it’s very important that I tighten my cast-on. That solves the problem of two different ends on my scarves. Give it try.
This is a wonderful video. I have some looms I would love to try and use. I have been crocheting all summer. I would like to master the loom but get easily frustrated with it. Such great information I want to try a hat.
Number 9, I am always do this one. Everyone loves my gifts. You are right I do get frustrated bc I am learning and stressing vs enjoying the process. I need to stop doing this. Along with deadlines that come along with the gift in mind bc it’s for a celebration. Humm Thks for the tip
You are the best teacher & coach. Great video even for us that have been looming for awhile. Some times I loose my knitting mojo and go to another craft or project. It's OK. This video was very insightful. Thank you, Denise. 🍁🍂🍁
Great video. I've never personally had a problem with boye pegs breaking. I started 10 years ago and learned on them, used them up to 3 years ago. Have since upgraded to the other plastic brands and better looms do prefer them over the boye. Wish there was a video like this 10 years ago lol.
What's really funny is that some people have told me that they bought the looms after I did a review about why I don't like them. That's just human nature - so you never know.
@@LoomaHat exactly lol. I only lost pegs after one of mine fell off the bed along with the blanket. Dogs love to toss stuff off our bed. He went to walk over the blanket and got the edge of the loom. Lol.
I always watch your video's at least 3 times. I am a beginner an I appreciated all the does n don'ts. I'm trying a lot of projects an I thank you for being here.
Love this video! Especially the parts about not taking on bigger projects and putting expectations on ourselves. Knit and enjoy the process! I'll admit I've modified patterns but usually after seeing if the designer said how to make it fit a plus sized person (like socks)
if i were a youtuber and got bad feedback like that i probably would've lost my patience already lol. These tips really helped me since i am a beginner Thanks!
Ordered a set of Boye looms yesterday; played this video today. 😮 At least I am forewarned that it may be that the style of loom doesn't suit me rather than entirely user error.
Wish I had all these tips when I first started loom knitting maybe so many of them wouldn't have ended up in the trash hahaha 🤪 😅 🙃. Thank you this is still helpful for me!!!
Great tips! I saw one of the youtubers i like try to knit a poodle on a loom before even trying a hat! I thought I would give loom knitting a go. I stumbled upon your chunky hat video (that you mentioned in this one) and it came out pretty okay! I was double stitching some of it by mistake (whoops lol im a beginner) but I am still incredibly proud of that hat :) your videos are also so easy to follow and helpful!! Thank you for making them!
I broke nearly all of those when I first started except the bad feedback one, but I still love loom knitting to this day, I knit for homeless shelters and Loomahat is my favorite loomknitting channel.
Dawna - thank YOU sooooOOOOo much for your kind words and more importantly thank YOU for using my lessons to give to shelters. That is the best gift you can give me. Charitable giving is the reason this channel was started. Thanks for taking the time to share that with me, It's highly appreciated because it confirms for me that my work is still working for others !!!!
You are one of my favorite instructors on loom knitting very easy to listen to and encouraging for all levels of learning this was a very helpful video thank you again God bless
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video. This is my first step in to loom knitting 🧶. I’m going straight to your beginners playlist LOL. New subscriber and I’m so glad I found you!! 💚😊💚😊
I love your patterns and appreciate your clear instructions. I just finished the Chinese Wave hat on my 41 peg loom, and I'm not happy with the vertical line of knit stitches going up the back of the hat. It's possible I did something wrong, but I thought I'd like to try to find a 42 peg loom like you used in the video. The problem is I can't find one online. They are either 41 peg, 40 peg or the site doesn't list the number of pegs. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks for the tips! Your videos are always so helpful! The only looms we have are Boye. While I’ve had no problem with them, I wondering if a different type would be easier for my kiddos. Thanks again!
Thanks for the tips as a beginner myself I appreciate the advice. The one thing I personally have to disagree with but this is just me is I personally love my ALIMELT Round Knitting Loom Set I got of Amazon and it is a small gauge only 4.02mm in between pegs and I am doing fine I can easily work with bulk 6 yarn. I agreed that bigger gauge is probably easier but I also think it depends on the person how much harder it is going to be I personally have never worked on any gauge bigger that what I have.
I learned to knit 2 winters ago. I went crazy w multi strands the first year. I dont do that to myself anymore, lol. Baby is on the way and I need to knit something for them!
The Boye looms make so much sense as to why they're so difficult to work with. I thought it was just me being bad with wrapping the yarn too tight. XD Looks like its time to donate both round and long looms that I have.
Great tips but I wish I had seen this before I bought the Boye looms. But thank you very much for the info. How’s it feel to have started something and felt that I just couldn’t do it not knowing it’s the shape of the pegs and not me.
I'm in the middle of my first project and I did at least 5 of the 10 things she said not to do. So I'll finish what I started but with no pressure for it to look any specific way and I'll call it my first funky cowl. I'll pick a new pattern/video for my next project and take all the things I learned here into account. Thanks for the tips and advice!
This video was great.i learned to loom knit from your videos. My only struggle is trying to work with 2 yarns at same time. I get a tangled/twisted mess
Try putting each color in a separate gallon zip bag, zip it almost closed, then put each bag on opposite sides of your project. Thee may be a little tangle but not a huge amount. Learned this out of sheer frustraition.
I started loom knitting way before RUclips. I made a lot of hats! Baby hats and adult hats. Hats are all i made for the longest time on my looms. Everything else i crochet.
Thanks for the advice. (Where were you ten years ago? I have a 28" "authentic knitting board" - metal plaque and metal pegs. Never learned what to do with it.)
Hi, I like your tutorials very much! You have inspired me to begin with my new passion 🙂 Could you please make a tutorial for a men‘s vest and a men’s jacket?! It doesn’t have to be very easy, I am not a beginner. But I can’t find any tutorial of your quality. Thanks a lot 🙂😘
I just order some looms and I will start my first project when they get here. I have watched a number of videos on different things you can make with a loom and noticed that everyone uses a plastic needles to sew seams and I was wondering why? As a long time knitter and crocheter I only use metal needles to sew up seams since they are easer to use. I watched a video of some one using one and it broke, which has always been my experience.
I spent a large amount of time just knitting for practice, ripping out, and reusing the yarn for more practice the first year. I wish people didn’t feel obligated to “make something”. Sometimes practice just for practice sake can improve your skills so much in a short time.
Of course the loom that i have is a boye brand 😭😭😭😭 that explains why my pegs keep popping of and are super loose they were gifted to me, so im not complaining it's just frustrating having figure out how to get the peg back in the loop
I have the same experience! 😩 I also own the Boye Loom kit. I like the round looms but the long looms I truly despise. Currently I am good at loom knitting beanie hats but I haven't been able to loom knit a scarf. 😞 The Boye long looms seem complicating. I may need to switch brands and get rid of my loom kit.
I LOVE the capture top looms. I had a little trouble removing the yarn at first, but after practicing for while it got easier. I would rather deal with the capture tops than have the yarn flip off the pegs like with other non-capture looms.
lol i did everything wrong then my starting looms where nothing but boye(both large and small gauge) i had to change patterns to fit what type of yarn i could afford or i made my own i was making full sized adult hats for my first projects i could go on but i broke every rule you have in the video lol the fun of loom knitting is making mistakes and improving with each project and not feeling like you have to loom knit a certain way
I hear you Red - that's why I start with "probably" because this list doesn't fit everyone. It's based on my years of teaching others to loom knit and hearing why they became discouraged.
Tip 9 I love I've been knitting a blanket pattern I found for free. The creators name is on it I just forgot it nou. But why I love tip 9 I started the blanket winter of 2017 and I'm not even half way. I also have 2 incomplete 10 stitch blankets the one is half way and the other I forgot where I stored it. And guess wat I started another blanket again....... I have finished alot of projects some complicated some easy but for some reason I just can't finish a blanket. But love starting them.
I love my Boyd loom set that I got at Goodwill for $5.00. I don’t drop stitches with the Boyd like I did with other looms. I guess to each his/her own.

We are starting today to try and baby hat! I'm excited to give it a try thank you so much for these videos!
Sending you good knitting vibes 💛💛💛
Great advice. I'm a new knitter and you make it very easy to learn from ❤
Thank YOU 😊 for the feedback 🥰
You are one of my favorite instructors on loom knitting very easy to listen to and encouraging for all levels of learning this was a very helpful video thank you again God bless
Wow, thank you! I really appreciate your kind words !
Thank you very much! As a beginner, your videos are very helpful and I learn a ton. Keep up the good work and stay safe!
Thank YOU for the Thank you Maaike, I really appreciate it !
Thanks for all the valuable information
Thanks for the tips! Your videos are always so helpful! The only looms we have are Boye. While I’ve had no problem with them, I wondering if a different type would be easier for my kiddos. Thanks again!
This is very helpful information. Thank you so much 😍
Thank YOU my friend 😘
You're the best, Denise, you've got me hooked.
Awesome !!!
Thank you my teacher, love you 💜💜💜💜
Dina
Some very handy hints, thanks for sharing this with us
Thanks for the thanks 😊
Thank you! You are so helpful, glad I found your channel!
You are so Super welcome Bethany !
I learned to knit 2 winters ago. I went crazy w multi strands the first year. I dont do that to myself anymore, lol. Baby is on the way and I need to knit something for them!
THANK YOU I found your video quite helpful.
You are very VERY welcome! 💛💛💛
Yeah - sometimes it’s the tool and not the one using the tool. I really wish they would stop selling that loom.
Such good advise and really just good common sense. I love your videos always have and will continue too.
Love you tips, suggestions and patterns. I learned to loom because of you. Big thank you 🧶 ❤️
I'm in the middle of my first project and I did at least 5 of the 10 things she said not to do. So I'll finish what I started but with no pressure for it to look any specific way and I'll call it my first funky cowl. I'll pick a new pattern/video for my next project and take all the things I learned here into account. Thanks for the tips and advice!
Thank YOU 😊 Remember that the advice is temporary - only til you get more experience. I say all of it because I want to keep you in the family longer.
Thank you, very good advice!
Thank YOU!
Thanks, this helps a LOT!!
Thank YOU for the thank YOU
Thank you so much for the tips! I think #4 was the lesson I had to learn right away 😅
Thanks for the tips
I started loom knitting way before RUclips. I made a lot of hats! Baby hats and adult hats. Hats are all i made for the longest time on my looms. Everything else i crochet.
Thank you for you help! It’s priceless!!
Thank you 😊 very good advice
Thank YOU Courtney my friend !!! Coming for an advanced loom knitter I appreciate that you liked the information in the video
I bought the Boye loom set when I first started and within 30 days the pegs were already starting to come loose. It was horrible for my yarn too!
100% spot on all of these. Well said!!
I spent a large amount of time just knitting for practice, ripping out, and reusing the yarn for more practice the first year. I wish people didn’t feel obligated to “make something”. Sometimes practice just for practice sake can improve your skills so much in a short time.
Wonderful information I like how u are still encouraging. Love ur vids 🙂👍
I think I‘ve done 9 out of 10 of these. I‘be given feedback, but not when I was frustrated.
Thank you! ❤️
Grat advice thank you 😊
Glad it was helpful! 💛
Great video!
Thank you for this.
Very informative and helpful :) my first loom knitting project was the tiny kitten one you suggested and I love it 🐱💖
I'm so glad! Thank YOU for the positive feedback Kelly - I really appreciate it!
I love how you could've boil the entire 10 list down to "Follow the damn instructions" 😂 wonderful voice, enjoyable vid. Thank you!
You gave me a whole dose of the giggles ! Thank YOU
Awesome advice 👍
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you.
Thank you 🤗☺️♥️
Great tips
Glad you think so!
lol i did everything wrong then my starting looms where nothing but boye(both large and small gauge) i had to change patterns to fit what type of yarn i could afford or i made my own i was making full sized adult hats for my first projects i could go on but i broke every rule you have in the video lol the fun of loom knitting is making mistakes and improving with each project and not feeling like you have to loom knit a certain way
I hear you Red - that's why I start with "probably" because this list doesn't fit everyone.
Thanks very much 💚👍
I love my Boyd loom set that I got at Goodwill for $5.00. I don’t drop stitches with the Boyd like I did with other looms. I guess to each his/her own.
Yes 👍🏽
