As was common, there was no hood or face covering, so everyone could watch her face as she choked to death. Several photos document her hanging there having just died, her eyes open and urine on the ground underneath her suspended body. In the video it is said that an executioner placed his gloved hands over her face; actually, as was the practice, he would have been torquing her head from side to side to hasten strangulation, and then, as was customary, would throw the white gloves on the ground beneath her. I appreciate and understand this page's disgression in not including any of the gruesome photos. Sure, punishment must be meted out, with a balance between haste and inaction so that we can be as sure as we can that the punishment is appropriate; especially if it is lethal, but some kind of decency for those convicted would be a manifestation of our higher selves. The Nazis were terrible, terrible (and seeing swastikas displayed in the current era is scary scary), but what we see in hindsight may not have been as clear in the moment. The extent to which droves and droves of people were being grotesquely executed across Europe may not have been as common confirmed knowledge at the time, so droves also of other people may have been somewhat unwittingly caught up in the intoxicating wave of power, hate, and sumpremecy often times perhaps through peer pressure or out in out fear of reprisal for not going along. None the less Herta Kasparova was deemed guilty of terrible crimes against her people, so it appears that appropriate punishment was in order, but the lack of decency in the administration of that punishment was not shown in this video, and I think rightfully so.
