Even though you didn’t stay entirely within the constraints of the Genesis sound chip, it’s pretty hard to tell the difference. I always love to hear artists who can do Genesis-style arrangements well since it can be so tricky to get right, especially with covers.
I absolutely agree! It's like if a song had 16 tracks, you gotta strategize and see where you can pull off certain chords because sometimes, pivotal chords give certain musical parts that personality. This can be heard in the chorus here; the vocal line moves a note down and the other vocal track plays the same note but an octave higher to really send the point home. This is the defacto Live and Learn Mega Drive/Genesis cover. It's got good audio balancing, all the parts are there, it's got good instrument distribution, a subtle bit of reverb to give it a little bit of depth and I actually enjoyed listening to it. Good Stuff.

I picture this playing in the background of a Genesis Sonic game. If not a whole Zone then when in Super Mode and the True Final Boss if you get the Emeralds. Like this could easily play during the Hyper Sonic vs Final Weapon Doomsday Zone boss. Which is well beyond fitting since the Final Hazard is also in space.
This is utterly fantastic. Id have to go back and listen to the original to confirm but i feel like you've added a little bit of extra funky flair to this song to make it sound more period accurate, like it fits within an actual S3&K Level or something ahahaha. Sick track.

this not only sounds accurate to the sound chip, but the composition sounds accurate to what they would've done back then too compared to songs like Big Arms. the art in the video background helps as well and it makes it surprisingly easy to image sonic adventure 2 as a sonic 3 & knuckles successor on the genesis
@@egxtra I honestly haven't dived into what makes the Sega CD and 32x musically tick, but listening to knuckles chaotix ost makes me think there's definitely more channels available for sampling at the very least. Say you're playing a 3 note guitar power chord or piano chord; you need to take up 3 out of the 5 FM ym2612 channels (the 6th one is for drum samples) to make that chord. So technically speaking if you wanted to compose an acoustic sounding genesis piece, you could use all 6 channels, one for each string of the guitar!
