Kristi, you truly are a great teacher! I am so inspired by your various videos, especially this one. I had not heard of nor seen piano hinge binding until today, and I am impressed. I know I will be making a piano hinge book really soon. Thank you for sharing your knowledge so clearly and precisely. You are a MASTER, for sure!
Nice presentation of instruction! You do explain things well with enough details and extras without going overboard. Precise, to the point, yet, thorough. Thanks!
I just happen to have a packet of those skewers and I was looking for cool binding method for my Chinese themed journal. This is perfect! I like your no-nonsense style, I actually sat up straighter when you started talking.
Ha I knew there was another binding method. I love this. Sturdy and fun too. I will color my skewers. Would be cute for a child's book. Also I could use this for chapters in the book. Say 8 pages per signature is a chapter...use the colors in the table of contents. Just using some more imagination in this method of binding. Thank you so much for being so concise and easy to understand. I will begin after I return from the grocery with my skewers.
I’m worried about the triangle cuts or slit cuts ripping easily so I had the idea of using a hole punch to make a half circle cut. It seems like it would make the paper less likely to rip. I’m pretty rough with my books
This was very easy to follow. I have some sheets of canvas that I was to make into an art journal for myself. Does this sound like it would work? They are 8”x10” and I would fold them in half making approximately a 5”x8” journal. thanks ❤️❤️❤️
Honestly, I don't know. The canvas will be very floppy, and if you made the whole book out of canvas it seems like the result might be unsatisfying. You might want to support it somehow, or intersperse the canvas with something stiffer, to give it some substance and form. If I were trying this I'd start with a small example and see what I thought, and go from there. I know that's probably not very helpful, but when in doubt, test first. 🤗
@@KristiWarrenHandmadeBooks I planned on a hard cover. I’ve been making Junk Journals and using spiral bound drawing tablets, I thought I would like to start from scratch. Thanks for your reply. Happy Weekend! ❤️❤️❤️
i have a question ahh can i add on pages even when i finish the sketchbook? or am i stuck with the number of pages i planned to put at first before sketching? cause i dont want to keep on making sketchbooks over and over again haha
In the case of this type of book with the piano hinge you can add as many additional pages as you want later on. Another binding that allows you to do this is the Screw Post binding (ruclips.net/video/KNYdiLCbJ4w/видео.html). You can just remove the posts, add more pages and then screw the posts back in.
Best, clearest tutorial of this method I've seen.
