  • This video is Part One
    Needed to get out of the triple degree heat immediately so I loaded up the DR650 and headed North to higher elevations into the West Central Utah Highlands.
    Fantastic scenery and cooler temps made the riding awesome! Decided to turn the ride into a big loop which ended up being just over 400 miles that took me into Cedar Break National Monument and beyond with elevations ranging from 10,000ft to 8500ft. This is the way for the next few months until temps begin to drop again in the lower desert, high elevation riding!
    Two videos of this trip!
    First video is more dirt and the second video has some interesting attractions like ancient Petroglyphs and Butch Cassidys (outlaw) childhood home. Great ride on the DR650!

    I love your content. Thanks for the vids. I live in cedar city and I am in heaven driving all around southern Utah. I was just taking a drive today up by cedar breaks and through Brian head and then came home and found this video. It never gets old I can drive all around beautiful Utah and still watch your videos doing the same thing.

    You're up in my stomping grounds!!! I try to get up on the mountain almost every day I'm off to escape the heat even here in Cedar. I wouldn't be surprised if that lava flow area is the most impressive flow area anywhere in the continental US with how many square miles it covers. Can't attest to Hawaii, but I've thought the same thing about how volatile the Markagunt Plateau must have been however many tens of thousands of years ago when those volcanoes were active up there... As far as the pronghorn antelope population: I think the herds must be the healthiest they've ever been up there since I moved out here in 2011. I've seen more this year and last year than every year combined before that. I'll see a herd almost every time I'm up there, especially on the Hwy 143 side or off Mammoth Creek Rd. Between the fishing, hiking, dual-sporting, ATV'ing, camping, snowmobiling, etc. up there, it's such a cathartic place for me to escape when I'm off. No doubt, it's definitely been discovered at this point, but as you saw even in your little side jaunt, there's plenty of areas you can still get to and escape the Vegas and SoCal crowds that inundate the mountain during the summer! Awesome adventure, dude!

    Beautiful spot. I can't imagine having to deal with triple digit temps at home. No thanks. Glad you were able to find some cooler weather to enjoy a moto camp. Really enjoyed following along. Thanks for sharing. Subbed!

    I did Arizona south to north on a Vstrom last year. I’ll trailer a lighter bike for UT for sure. I think the 300L rally will do.

    What is the adjustable windshield/windscreen in your DR?

    • @precipiceofgrind
      @precipiceofgrind  3 месяца назад +1

      It's a Madstad Windshield, the 20 inch model for the DR650. Did a video on it here:

    I really enjoyed this episode of moto camping. You make it look easy and fun. Any chance you can discuss how you get to the point that you’re comfortable and feel safe out there. I t would be good general rambling and info for us who want to do it. Big fan, thanks.

      Interesting, I'll have to think about a video in regards to that. I did already post a video on solo backcountry moto travel but it was gear oriented. Appreciate you watching!

    Excellent video as always, and it’s got me thinking. If you could only keep one of your current bikes, which one would it be, and why? I appreciate your thoughts, as I’m considering what I should get. I’m in a position to get a bike to replace my street only machine, and can afford any one of your bikes, but I’m not in a position to have multiple bikes at this point. Any thoughts you might have would be greatly appreciated!

      Appreciate you watching! If I could only have one, it would probably be the DR650 since I can literally configure that bike anyway I want. I can build it heavier or lighter and so on.

      @@precipiceofgrindthanks for that reply, it’s really helpful! I’m still a ways off from buying my next bike. I live in AZ, so similar terrain, and watching how you use your bikes has been really helpful in trying to make the right decision.
