Shared studios, this sounds like a dream in the current situation and I do feel like my learning process is slowed by isolation. Thank you, Laurie, for this introspective and clear interview. Your dedication, commitment to direct honesty is inspiring.
Such a cool person. I just recently discovered her and a lot of the ideas she was working with are similar to things I've naturally started being interested in from other avenues, so it's really neat to have that synchronicity. Her interest in structure and certain meta-aspects of music really resonates with me.
Sampling quite often is just theft. I think it's fine if you briefly "quote" (=sample) a composer or band, but this "quote" shouldn't become the piece itself or the main thing that's interesting about the piece; it should be no more important than to a musical piece than a quote in an essay is to the essay.
@@profd65 You can sample literally anything and then modify them forever. It doesn't have to be someone else's music but you could even turn that into a myriad of sounds that doesn't resemble the source at all. These sounds can in turn become parts of synth patches.

Wonderful, insightful comment.
Absolute genius.
really nice video, makes things just a little bit easier to view ... ;)
an amazing and interesting person, however it seems Laurie does not understand that sampling is and art form in and of itself......
That's how you end up with people like Kanye, all super impressed with themselves "I make my own beats!!"
