It's interesting because I feel you are someone who people easily underestimate. The first time you see your videos you seem so carefree, happy, and chirpy that I think people would assume there was no depth there (no offence at all - I actually really envy how you stay positive in front of the camera). But I've been watching you for over a year now and the more I watch your videos, the more I realise that you are in fact a very intelligent person. 99% of the time we see happy, excited Amelia and that's great, but your viewers can definitely see now that there is more behind that surface. You are clearly very clever and smart - look at your success? Whatever those teachers said to you in school, you've sure as hell proved them wrong with what you've achieved here on RUclips. It took brains and hard work to get you to where you are now.
Two things:
I loved that this video was so "baking heavy." Fun to see this domestic side of you throughout the video. And so thoughtful of you to make something for your parents' dinner party!
I teach middle school and I totally appreciated your comments about teachers. It is so important to remember the spirit of helping a student learn and become a life-long learner, not just getting them to remember the content from your curriculum.
Some teachers can be so discouraging! My English teacher in year 11 told me I probably should aim lower when I told him I was going to do nursing. Fast forward 6 years and I've done an honours science degree and I'm in medical school! Don't listen to people who try and bring you down - aim for the stars!
Emily Overton Exactly! in primary school we had an art class in abstract painting and the teacher told me I was doing it all wrong and made me feel really shitty. Here I am now studying Graphic Design at Art School :)
Slaaaaayyyy! Well done you! ☺️❤️
i love all your videos they pick me up whenever i'm feeling down or it makes me even happier when i'm in a good mood :)
i hope you never stop making videos :D have a wonderful day!!
The rant was so spot on! I feel like teachers play such a big role in becoming who you are. It's important that they are encouriging! I was used to evaluated based on the exam results and how much you'd raise your hand. Well I was really shy so you can guess how that went. :D However, I feel like that pushed me to my limits and I had to learn to state my opinion out loud. And now I'm doing pretty well in high school - although sometimes it's so stressful to succeed. Studying what you really enjoy and believing in yourself will get you there no matter what others say! love from Finland :)
I totally get you. Not only teachers, sometimes parents too are discouraging. I keep reminding myself that I have to give my daughter encouragement, praises and courage to face the discouraging ppl in the reality.
Aw Amelia when you were first ranting I thought you were going to burst into tears, I completely agree with you though. If someone gets told they can't do something, they're more likely to believe they can't, but if you say to someone "you can do this", it gives encouragement and helps motivation! Look at how much you've achieved Amelia! You should go back to that school and shove that report straight back in their faces whilst wearing all of your OWN jewellery collection! X
can i just say your styling bits of the video are soooo helpful for figuring out what to wear in london! im studying abroad so I'm not used to the climate AT ALL, but your outfits definitely help me figure out what I should look in my closet for on weird weather days, so thank you haha!!
I can totally relate Amelia! When I graduated from high school I wanted to go study Chinese at Uni. When my teacher heard he came to me and just told me I should not do it because I was too stupid. Because the courses in high school were not my thing my grades were not good. But I truly believe that when you try you can do it. Four years later I am living in Shanghai and talking Chinese every day. Haha! I really want to sent a copy of my degree to that teacher!
Amelia Liana, I'm sorry to hear about your negative experience with teachers! I am becoming a teacher here in Germany for kids 11-17 who go to the so called Real or Hauptschulen. These are kids that often are given the impression here in Germany they aren't smart enough and it's exactly where I want to teach to be one of the teachers who is encouraging and inspiring! Your story hits home :)
My teachers made me feel awful too. They told me getting A's weren't good enough, I was never going to be anything in life and that I should get help with my anxiety (which was caused by them). I honestly felt like I was being bullied by them. They would accuse me of lying even when I was telling the truth and embarrass me whenever they got the chance. It went so far that I wanted to quit school all together. I ended up struggling with depression for a year. Now I am at uni and loving it... So glad we could persevere! Anyone who is struggling now, just know it does get better and don't let teacher (or anyone) try and define your worth!
I've never liked dogs but Duke is just out of this world in terms of cuteness!! He is so adorable I don't know how you get any work done, I would just cuddle him all day hahahaha!
Yay for weekly vlogs can't wait to see your LA vlogs!
I'm an Italian economy student. I've always sucked at math and I was always the worst in my class when it came to math and scientific subjects in general. When I first started uni I once met my math teacher in a shopping center and when she asked me what was I doing and I told her I had actually chosen economy she looked at me like I was gone nuts and asked me whether it was a joke. I honestly felt so humiliated and disheartened I cried the whole way home, expecially since I was having a few problems with my exams back then. Well, I just finished my first year and it went a lot better that it did to some of my old top marks classmates. DO NOT EVER let anybody tell you you can't do something, because you CAN DO WHAT THE HELL YOU WANT, there's like not a single thing you can't do if you set your mind to do it and work hard for it. Yes, I do sucked at math: that means I had to study more that my collegues to recover, but I did it and 1.I achived great results 2.I'm so proud of myself for working so hard. We are all great and phenomenal and brilliant and special and teacher should make us understand it instead of discourage us. Sorry for the rant, this is something I really care about! Love you Amelia
I absolutely agree with you a lot of teachers can be discouraging very few teachers I had in school actually encouraged the students and that is such an important thing to do
I had a very similar experience... Teachers can be quiet cruel actually. However, my 3rd grade teacher was soo supportive. Spent tons of time with me after school to make sure I understood the concepts and made sure no one said anything negative to me (past teachers, school administers, etc). The support and attention she gave me was exactly what I needed at the time! I have no managed to graduate with a masters in engineering and all those previous teachers/administers thought I wouldn't even be able to make to hs. I definitely showed them bahah
I finished year 10 yesterday, and I just realised how un-encouraging my teachers actually were. I didn't do too well in my mocks (which I had an excuse for) yet my teachers were still a bit sour about it. In year 9 I did terribly in my chemistry exam and got screamed at my my teacher and told I was going to fail, i'm sorry you had to go through that Amelia, LOOK AT YOU NOW!
Love your rant. I definitely had my fair share of mean teachers who put me down earlier in school, luckily when I got to college all my tutors were amazing and supportive :) it's harder when you're younger though because you just believe what you're told!
Kat Horrocks And omg - I need those brownies in my mouth!
The editing and camera work in this video were amazing!! I've never been so pleased watching a vlog.
Sorry your teachers made you feel like that. I'm a high school teacher and I always try to be encouraging and have high expectations for them, because they can do it.
tammimarie Aww that's so nice! YES THEY CAN!!!
I knew. A real mean lady who tried to make me believe I was not confident so her own daughter would progress more and as a kid u believe everything about self from others b cuz u r vulnerable . Positive influences are really important and not everyone should b in social circle, there are some beech in world
The brownies look beyond delicious, will be popping straight over to your blog to get the recipe. Also loved your message to young people regarding their school experiences. I remember having a few less than cheer-leading teachers too!!!
Amelia you have amazing communicating skills and you're so lovely and beautiful. You actually proved that those teachers were totally wrong because you are doing great!
I love how frequent your vlogs come up, therez always a smile when the phone beeps showing that your video is up!! :) Thank You!!
I agree sometimes you just need the words. My 86 yr old mom has a dr appt this morning ( that she doesn't want to go to) and I just told her yesterday "not to be afraid that she can do anything " and she smiled and said ok and that I was right. The message is the same for every age :)
I love to use tinned apples in my apple cake because it makes that cake really moist and it's so much easier! Love you xx
You can never have a baking overload. Everything looks so yummy 😝💙💙
I had a very similiar school experience. When I became a mother I knew I would never allow a teacher to treat my daughter in that way. You are so beautiful and intelligent. Your inner beauty radiates.
Amelia, you are spot on about teachers in schools!! It takes one negative comment to potentially have an impact on your life. I wasn't very academic in school, but I was really good at English, and I got top marks in that subject, which was largely due to my English teacher who made it so interesting
OMG that body chain is gorgeous...awesome find!
I liked your rant - you are so right. Also, I rarely conment, but I would just like to say that I love your vlogs, I like how you always seem positive and spread good messages. I also think the way you film and edit your videos makes it very easy and interesting to watch. :)
Amelia!!! You are seriously my big sister! Thank you for the life talks and seeing how happy you are now makes me assured that grades =/= happiness
Oh Amelia you are such a sweetie.
And also a great role model
Such support for young people
And so encouraging.
Keep up the good work.
All the best from
Linda. From Melbourne Australia 😄😄😄😄😄
I absolutely adored your rant. So accurate. A little positive feedback goes a long long way.
Positive & encouraging teachers are so important. I'm sorry you had to endure such negativity. If those teachers could only see you now! You're such an incredible person!
i love baking!!!! those brownies look delish
I really like the way you edit, and oh my, that apple cake looks amazing!
Love, love, love your VLOGS!!! Thanks for posting!!!
That old lady walking past you is my new fave human! haha
At parents evening my teachers would always gloss over my test results and what not, all they would usually come up with is 'Katrina is bubbly and nice' ...Like how is that meant to help with anything! xx
Even though all you did was baking in this video, this vlog is my favorite so far; I agree everyone can do anything if he/she puts their mind to it and we should not let school determine who we are and what our future holds. You are very wise and you are a great example for young women out there all over the world.
Hii Amelia, I discovered your channel recently and I'm soo glad I did. You're such an amazing person I love love your style and everything you cook hahah (; I was wondering if you can make a video about your hair routine. I saw one but I think it was a year ago so if you have an updated hair routine please film a new one because I love the volume, curls and everything. And I must say I feel like you're becoming my new favorite youtuber and you should do more videos with Hannah because they are so much fun to watch especially the Rome vlogs are the bestt❤️
My high school maths teacher always told me I wasn't good enough and that I shouldn't even consider taking A level maths because I would fail.
I did A level maths with a different teacher at a different school and got an A and am now at medical school. Just shows that a positive and encouraging influence can make all the difference!
Your hair is so amazing! Could you please do a hair routine videol? x
I had teachers who made me feel stupid too but I ended up going to Cambridge university to study law so to anyone who's had jerks for teachers - don't let them get you down!
K Lu you go girl!
Your perfume collection looks amazing!!! Xxx
your rant really made my day!! please rant more :)
I always enjoy your videos. Keep doing what you're doing!
Please do more vlogs!! They're my favourite💗💜
I totally get what you mean about teachers making you feel like you're not good enough. School is really hard on kids, especially when they're in that phase of getting older and figuring out who they are. Grades and things can be really soul-crushing. I'm definitely still traumatized by some things that happened when I was in school!
Completely agree with you. Though I'm still being traumatised as I'm in my second year of college (not uni 😋)
The brownies look sooooo yummie♥♥♥
Your so inspiring and seem like such a lovely person 💜
little baking tip when mixing your wet and dry ingredients don't put it all at once in stead incorporate the wet a 1/3 it helps with clumps and just makes the whole cake smoother and nicer xx
I know exactly what you mean regarding teachers. I was one of the quiet students and because of that I wasn't acknowledged often and just didn't do as well because the teachers just weren't encouraging at all. It's still here with me now and I'm 25. I don't really know what my strengths are and I'm too scared to apply for jobs because I just feel I won't be good enough. Some how I came out of Uni with a 2:1 but I'm just as baffled and still have no idea what to do with my life.
i totally agree, when i was younger I did primary schooling in Shanghai and didn't really speak much English, my Grade 4 English Teacher publicly humiliated me so many times because I was dragging the whole class down and I never thought I'd achieve anything and pretty much just gave up, but here I am 10 years later, graduated as the second highest mark from my high school and got into one of the best Law schools in Australia, I also managed to pick up French studies. Looking back at my primary school experience, I probably would've enjoyed everything so much more if the teachers were just a tiny bit more encouraging.
Love you Amelia you are one of my favourite youtubers x
duke is so cute! He seem always smiling 😂
the problem at my school was there was such a stigma about trying hard and revising, most people in my last year of school would've rather stayed in the common room and skipped class than trying hard. and in class there was so much help for the disadvantaged and lower ability pupils but pupils who wanted to try hard and challenge themslves got ignored more!
Amelia, you're such a clever and funny girl! I love you! 💗
You're so absolutely right about encouragement. I really wish I'd had some early on, I think I would've done things I didn't think I could do if someone (someone who's opinion mattered to me ofc) told me I could.
I love roses de Chloe! Gorgeous. You should do a fragrance collection video
I missed your vlogs so much!!!!
I fully understand you Amelia!! I'm in matric (last year of school in South Africa) and I'm sick to death of my intelligence being judged by my school marks and like always feeling like my school marks are crap... I'm so done with school-it's all so sodding stressful! :(
All the food! It's looks so good!
Amelia you are so right! I really struggled in school and instead of helping me teachers just made me feel so bad about myself! Now I have a great job so there is life after school :) screw them!
In sixth form, my tutor once accused me of cheating because I was ill the day between two exams and don't form to school. He said all my teachers were already talking about me and I shouldn't send the wrong message. After two years I am still pissed off because I talked to the teachers, all of those who he could've meant and they didn't have any idea of what he was talking about.
I still rage about it nowadays because he made me feel like shit in front of my classmates and accused me of cheating when I didn't even need to cheat because I was good during class and in exams. I guess he had a power complex.
But it just shows, some teachers just talk shit and try to make their pupils feel like carp because they get off on it or something. I am at uni, still doing well, never cheated in my life
I'm sorry to hear your school was like that. I didn't have as negative an experience because I got good grades, but I remember teachers not being very encouraging to anyone struggling. Sad, really!
You are one of my fav youtubers 😍😍😍☺️☺️☺️
THOSE BROWNIES THO! YUM!!
I agree 100% with you ! That's why I am becoming a teacher because I want to encourage children to do their best !
Last year I was tutoring this 13 year old girl and she was such a sweet and kind person but she always seemed to get a C in physics. She was really feeling down about it. After two hour and a half sesions with me she got an A and now she is doing really well in both math and physics. If you are reading this and you are still in school just: Don't be ever afraid to ask for help! And sometimes, especially in sciency subjects, if you don't understand some small thing, you will be confused and that's ok. Everything is going to be ok!
Awww you're amazing! Go you and go her!!!!!!!
I didn't even think anyone is going to see my comment on this old vlog... Thanks Amelia for, you made my day
After this vlog i like you even more!! You have a big heart. ✨✨✨teachers should encourage not discourage❤️❤️❤️❤️👌👌👌
YAY vlogs are back. I was going through withdrawal! lol
Ahhh they look so good, and now I'm hungry 😍
Yay!!! I love your vlogs so much!!
Could yoj do a perfume video? Love youu
Emily Thorne you*:)
Can you do a tutorial on strobing Amelia? Love you!!
pinkpolarbear667 Coming up on Friday!
Yay! You must be reading my mind ;) I can't wait
Thank you so much for that amazing vlog. You are so inspirational
I hated/didn't enjoy school and that was part of the reason - the only things I really enjoyed were my friends and sports! The irony is that's where the real motivation, positivity and encouragement comes from, those factors are so important - it's a shame that a sports teacher can be 10x more motivating than a maths teacher! If you go to a spin/cycle class, you will most likely have a really motivating instructor and as a result come out of the class feeling really good... That's how it should be with any class at school
I agree with the teacher situation. There are so many teachers who tell their students that they're not good even though they don't know them. When I was younger I was not very confident in English class because my English teacher ridiculed me and told me I should try harder but then when I got into gymnasium (it's like a Danish version of high school) I got the best grades in my class and my English is even better than that English teacher I had who ridiculed me.
Also, you have to remember one thing: Grades do not define your intelligence! Your teachers opinion on your own skills are not true (for the most part). There are some lazy people in my class who cheat on their assignments and they're not very active in class, but they still manage to get high grades. And then there are hard working and intelligent people who work their ass off but they get lower grades than they ones who cheat.
I don't trust the school system at all and it really breaks my heart when I see students who think their teachers are right.
love your vlogssssss!
your brownies recipe is the best, i did it once and I can´t find it again, I´d appreciate it if you posted the ingredients. Thanks! Lots of love!
I love when you bake in your videos, but I feel so hungry now :(
will be trying these out today! whoot whoot!
Gonna try the brownies recepir! 😍lots of live from Italy 😘💖
I made the brownies twice this week and they are amazing!!! Will definitely be making them again. I found that they are better if I leave the milk out :p
All I kept saying in my head the whole vlog was 'your hair colour looks so nice' haha xx
I love your vlogs! :)
Yeah bundt cakes! They were invented in Minneapolis, Minnesota where I live!
You were so cute in this vlog! I honestly think that school grades are not everything and we should not be classified in school by that it is just so wrong that teachers make you feel so down and think that you are not going to achieve anything in life if your grades are not as good as others.
Totally had a teacher like that. My high school chior/theatre director. He was cruel and played mind games like crazy and it still sticks with me. It's terrible. I think it's why I try to encourage people to always do what makes them feel passionate, but sometimes its hard to encourage myself and alot of it goes back to that a$$
Love your bodychain♡
My Becca highlighter in champagne pop broke too! So upsetting when new makeup breaks
I'm so obsessed with your glasses! Where did you get them?
Lovely video Amelia! Your happiness is infectious! Inspiring me to bake more :-D lots of love xxx
gotta try those brownies omg YAS xx
LOVE your vlogs, Amelia! :)
My english teacher in high school was my biggest bully. That alone is sad. I wholeheartedly agree with you
Oh my gosh! That is so true about school teachers, they use to say of me 'she has all the enthusiasm and none of the ability!' Well I was/am dyslexic and now I'm entering my academic studies, so up them!
Mid-watching this I've had to order that Burberry lipstick and pull up a few recipes to start baking! 🙈
Yum I need to try those brownies!
I always hated getting test results in high school. I did okay in most classes but math was terrible and my teacher was always SO discouraging and that's probably why I've always hated math ever since.
