Those empty seats are a disgrace, would have loved to take up one of them
"When nobody's looking, I just use the OP-1 and call it a day"
He´s such a chilled guy and has lots of expertise. He seems a bit nervous, but I attribute it to the audience. Thank´s for sharing that valuable information.
He's a natural introvert. Just the way he is, if you notice in a lot of his videos. But yeah, phenomenal expertise in his craft. A true pioneer in sound design.
Seriously that audience, lol. Like zero feedback.
This is wonderful! Thank you so much for this valuable information
I so love to listen to this humble and kind Guy. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much. i really learned a lot.
I love the audience :)
Always a pleasure learning from Richard you can really feel his sense of enjoyment and exploration of sound.
Gold!
Lo amo
I’d literally buy all of these plugins and that’s dangerous hahaha
Amazing
genius
merci
Super
jeez tough crowd
haha, the mushroom remark made me laugh... but not them :/(
where do i get alchemy now? i had it couples of years ago and its awesome!

Less a masterclass and more an advertisement for various types of synthesisers. Title should read: gear and software synthesizers. Love Rich Devine though 🎉
A+ Student.
30:00 the only guy who really gives a crap about what's going on. The rest are on their phones or rolling their eyes around all the time... Jeez...
Maybe they are taking notes on their phone ? That's what I would do.
maybe because you won't get anything from this masterclass except knowledge about how important the guy is, and who calls him, and what gear he has in his basement. Oh, I forgot about the patches presentation. This is waste of time.
Aphexxx
I couldn't catch the name of those triggers from Poland. Anyone?

what is the actual topic of this presentation
Very interesting but probably out of most people who want to get into this sort of thing's price range so not very useful. I can't imagine some kid interested in sound design getting their hands on most of this equipment beyond cheap studio headphones, and a standard consumer grade laptop computer which would have massive lag with iZotope, native instruments, etc. software. What would be far more useful is cool low budget techniques for the beginner, fast ways to create interesting sounds on a budget.
Behringer recent analogue, semi modular synths are super affordable, even for students. Neutron, K2, Pro-1 etc. good times if you want to play and learn analogue as opposed to daw/VSTs.
Nonsense. There are plenty of free and cheap software instruments out there. Every college kid has a laptop. You're overthinking things.
VCV Rack is a eurorack emulator and completely free. Works very well and has tons of modules, even from real eurorack manufacturers like mutable instruments, befaco and many more. furthermore it's great to get into soldering and curcuit designing. building a simple oscillator with a filter and a vca is pretty easy and cheap. if you're a kid chances are that your parents might even support this and sponsor you. of course you can't expect great sound quality but it should be more then enough to get into this stuff.
@@tillmanschauble1875 Exactly the same as all music in general... No well, thanks for stating the obvious, even if that's not the point.
he has got hell good amount of valuable information, if he ever gave lecture in my film school i would have loved it... but this audience, sorry to say but you are a piece of shit if u cannot appreciate the expertise of someone like him. If u were not interested u should have left. Sir if you are reading my comment by any chance i just want to tell you that you are hell awesome.
Not sure what to think of this presentation. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Devine’s work and music. His last album, Sort\Lave, is truly an amazing and fascinating journey into pure electronic music and synthesis madness. You have to listen to it, there’s nothing like it. But this class fell totally flat in my opinion. Very boring. It’s basically just a showcase of plugins, presets and sounds that he uses. No idea why the class is named ‘Synthesis and Sound Design’ while Richard almost didn’t touch any synthesis nor sound design concepts at all. No explanation on how to use compression correctly, how to sculpt a sound with filtering or EQ, what granular synthesis is, or how to sound design with spectral resynthesis or how to create a deep textured whoosh sound for example. I don’t want to hear the presets of a synth he works with, I want to learn the concepts of well… Sound design! I feel a bit bad for the people who were there, hoping to probably learn more than having to listen to synth sounds. The field recording part with the mics and all that at the end is quite interesting though. Still, thanks for sharing.
Pablo Smith I disagree. It does feel a bit discobombulated at times, but his narrative is great, from playing Sobotnic records to getting in details of how he’s building his sounds. This is going to be one of my faves for a few months.
@@alexnewman3516 I see what you mean, but I didn't learn one thing regarding sound design in this presentation. I did learn what tools and plugins he uses and made presets for though.
@@pablosmith5473 It definitely is not a class for beginners. As someone who knows sound design, this was a very informative class. Especially all the types of microphones and setups he uses. Sound Design is much more than some synths and processing. Recording, especially for film and tv, is more used than anything else in sound design. Sure the name of the class could have been different but is not an issue for me. Being shown rigs and recordings from a master like Richard and getting his perspective about the timbres and tones and recording techniques is a huge eye-opener for a lot of sound designers. Getting to see a professional's favorites is more than enough for other professionals to get insight and learn/
Hm not sure if I'd call it boring and flat, it's anything but boring! I'd see it as a window into his world. Well depicted and a story well told.
Too much reminiscing and cataloging of commercial software and gear, and not enough technique.
All speakers are magnetic, seems like a huge health risk for the dude in the front full of piercings
Huge infomation, but no sound is musical...
A lot of the crowd looks bored
so what
It was here in Barcelona, in July 2019, probably the hottest month of the last 100,000 years. People were sleepy because of the heat.
And it wasnt just hot its a realy long festival, i am done with consuming info after 2 days ,...
