    I feel like this genre has obsessed enough over immersion. If Path of Titans wants to lean more into being an MMO over an immersive survival game then that'd be cool to me. I want dinosaur games that are okay with not being immersive sims. I don't hate the most of the popular "play as a dinosaur" games for being simulators, as my problem is moreso that there's not really anything else. The lack of variety is tiring, and if you want other types of gameplay with dinosaurs then they take a backseat and aren't playable (like ARK, Paleo Pines, or Jurassic World Evolution).
    Basically I really want Monster Hunter with playable dinosaurs. That's my ultimate "I wish this were a thing" type game

    I have literally zero problem with the trailers. When I watch World of Warcraft trailers... their trailers; cinematic, theatrical and in-game rendered are designed to tell a story or reveal the plot of the expansion, NOT to give players an idea of how the game's going to play. That'd be stupid if this was the expectation. Think of games that play exclusively in orthographic views. WOW a highly detailed cinematic from a bird's eye view only. 'What's that? Just make the camera normal like every other cinematic'. 'Oh no, they'd get confused because that doesn't explain what the game's design is like. It'd be like we're lying to them!'
    Sure, they won't be under the expectation that it's an acorn pick-up simulator (currently). Players make their own content, rather that be totally emersed or the complete opposite like me where all I want to do is murder anything that moves because it's not in my friend group because I'm a PVP-er and I see Dinosaurs as player characters/tools to use. A trailer is not going to tell me how to play - the research I do outside of the trailer is what will ultimately convince me to play a game.
    Cinematics and trailers are designed to garner interest in their product in the hopes of luring customers in. While other forms of media would be better suited to display on gameplay features. An example being - gameplay trailers.
    I would be offended as a player if Path of Titans approached an advertisement-firm and told them to make a trailer as accurate as possible to the game's current design. You'd be dumping money down the toilet.
    I can appreciate Path of Titan's current micro-story driven trailers for a content drop as is and doesn't deceive my expectations of the game. As consumers, we should be doing our own research on the products we spend our money on and there are several avenues to do so.

    This is one of the opinions that I would say is just outright wrong, it's focusing on a problem that I don't feel is there. Path of Titans is a Dinosaur game that has found a lot of success and I feel that's because it's more of a sandbox game. Yes, the base game is a weird mix of MMO and realism survival however that base game isn't PoT's biggest strength, the community servers are. You can truly find any experience that you want with a stable player base to boot, want realism? We have that. Want death match? We have that. Want capture the flag? We (will) have that.
    Compared this to The Isle and you realize why PoT works so well, because unlike The Isle that can only be one thing, a realistic dinosaur survival game, Path of Titans can be anything and everything all at once.
    So no, Path of Titans does not have an identify crisis, it knows what it wants to be and it wants to be whatever the players of Path want it to be.

    • @TragikDino
      @TragikDino 4 месяца назад +7

      I agree, with games like these community servers and especially modified rate servers. The Isle is kinda killing itself, and while I’ve stopped keeping up with it (I haven’t played it to begin with so) the last I read there was some absolute garbage camera rework in progress instead of the 3rd person it’s had for so long.

      I'm not gonna sit here and defend The Isle (because in my humble opinion that game has kind of lost the plot with it's borderline obsessive focus on survival) but my biggest issue with Path of Titans is that community servers tend to be a very mixed bag in quality. Moderation abuse, (potential) hacking/cheating, "toxicity" from players. Etc etc. Now obviously those can be- and frankly, are issues The Isle suffers from as well. But if the selling point of one game is the community aspect, then hopefully said community will strengthen itself and handle these issues better if it wants to maintain that accessibility that The Isle doesn't really cater to. On top of this, if a game is trying to be a sandbox game (which there is nothing wrong with) it ultimately has to accept that it's essentially a 'jack of all trades, master of none' type of experience. Sub par survival, sub par realism, and probably sub par anything. Which isn't an identity crisis, of course.
      The modding scene is most definitely what keeps this game from crumbling though, if not one of the bigger reasons. And that's undoubtedly good in my eyes, no game really suffers from having one. Wish the Isle devs would see that.

      But it sucks that there's nothing to do on officials. Not all people have the interest in finding a player group. Some (for example Adhs) can't even group up with other without getting sucked away from reality in to the game. Why can't they at least change the quests to dinosaur related actions? Officials doesn't offer anything to do. No mechanics: eating, drinking and sleeping isn't really required. Hunting players is just unnecessary (if you don't care about cave decoration 😂😂). Hiding and stalking isn't required bcs if You would like to kill someone just befriend him via Chat and then stab him in the back. It's sandbox without the freedom of a true sandbox......

    This comment section is telling me largely two things (albeit the video hasn’t been out for long as of now)
    People either enjoy the game, liking the versatility of the base game and commemorating it for the player made content and importantly supporting the player made content and mods. Seemingly very rare among the dinosaur simulator games (granted I don’t know about the mod situation in Beast of Bermuda)
    Or people are dunking on it for having stupid quests, the combat, hotspots, MMO elements, or lag/connection issues. Usually accompanied with some variation of “I just play BoB/The Isle/ect., it’s just better” it seems the The Isle is the more common pick of those.
    In summary, I don’t think it’s really that serious. PoT is the only one that is on console, plus cross platform mod support. BoB has more specialist features with the skill tree for individual players and playables. The Isle is for the hardcore realistic survival player with high risk and high reward every time you engage with another player.
    PoT is the only one I play as a console player and I think it’s great, and I hope to play BoB eventually when I get a better PC. The Isle is a little to serious for as casual a player I am. Y’all can complain all you want, I’m gonna enjoy the games I choose to play

    I mean.... Path of Titans is VERY clearly promoting it's game as an MMO rather than a survival game, so yeah the ui will be like an MMO, player housing is going to be a thing, the quests will also be there (they could get an update tho), as well as mixpacking which could be seen as different classes like in most MMORPGS (allo=dmg, rex=tank, etc). If someone wants an immersive experience, it is present, on community servers. So I see no problems here, especially since PoT gives the MOST customizability and freedom to it's players out of any dinosaur games

  • @da.mombie

    honestly, my personal experience was exactly like this. I played legacy and was waiting for evrima to be released. then it was released and it was terrible. so I was looking for another game and saw PoT. they promoted it like the isle. immersive. I saw their trailers and was like, jeez, that looks like the isle, but way better. so, I bought it. it was pretty new back then. long before gondwana arrived.
    then I started to play and was like, what? I can't scent? that's weird. how should I find me food? oh, I can set a waypoint. uhm, doesn't feel much immersive. in general, why are there so many things on the hud? almost every following experience was very different to what I expected. I was nicely surprised to see water sources becoming undrinkable if there are too many around. just to get the next setback by getting quests where different dinos carrying stuff to clean the water. what the? why? all the immersion is gone as soon as you see 4 different species coming together to bring salt and shells to a specific point of the lake to clean their water.
    therefore, PoT disappointed me so much at the start (because of MY wrong expectation), that I never really found back into the game. later on I saw it as a RPG and I have to say it serves that type of game very well. as I often said, PoT and the isle are different games. you can't compare them and none is better. it much more depends on what type of game you are looking for. but yeah, PoT is everything but immersive. so, if you watch their trailers only, then you will be disappointed.
    that said, there are enough youtube videos to get an idea of the gameplay out there meanwhile, so, dunno. but, my experience was like that ^^

    The thing that bothers me the most its the community servers in general, nearly every server has all the mods, most mods are modslop and many mods are just redesigns of official dinos (usually better), the rules are usually either too realistic or too less, the people dont act like realism in realism servers, neither fight in pvp servers, everyones way too salty about rulebreaks and worst of all everyone just sticks to gp and ic, most of the time i just starve to death as carni, because i dont wanna be in hotspots
    The only server that kinda mitigates this is Islanders, because it mainly has only the good mods and the rules are not excessive

    The realism scene in pot is way bigger than on the isle or bob.
    Path said from the start that realism was not a focus, i feel that pot doesnt focus on realism but also doesnt work againts it,and with the addition of other gamemodes we can see an even variety in the playerbase. Realism servers are prevalent here due to the freedom of roleplay and the facts that pot let us edit stats,growth and terrain accentuates that freedom we as a playerbase have, i have the same train of thought as other people here, lol, wow and alot of other games show us a different side in the trailer to inmerse us in the world and i dont think pot is an exception.

    • @TragikDino
      @TragikDino 4 месяца назад +2

      The reason there are hotspots is because the map is massive compared to the amount of maximum players for a server, water availability, and the closeness of a waystone. If the map was smaller and had more drinking water I think it could be way better since a smaller map would mean less need for waystones. I think a coastalheavily forested map with (for the sake of mental image) the majority of the right side being ocean then dozens of rivers and estuaries leading down to the ocean would be good, the aquatics would easily be able to go inland and interact with land players, the land players would also have access to water nearly everywhere, and with large shrubs and trees apexs would actually be able to ambush and thus function as singles far better. The current map, especially plains, makes ambush impossible unless you’re 2 feet tall which means at maximum an achillo with green or dark skin pattern is the largest creature that can manage an ambush attack, and achillo really doesn’t need an ambush since it has the stam and speed to complete in a chase.

    They also need to fix single player mode. Why does this mode have den buff, debuffs. There are no other players there. Why do we need to go all the way to the den to change skills? I think single player could have some cooperative aspects, if they want to keep these things around. People could practice pvp and just hang with just a few people, 2-5. And not have to be on official or pay for their own server. If they want to play with more friends then go to officials or community for mods. Also single player mode lags which doesn’t make sense.

You have to do so much as a server owner to make it work, stat adjustments, profile creation, rules, mod selection so things aren't too busted, adjusting the modded creature's stats. The list goes on but my point is this:
    If the PoT devs focused more on the realism aspects they portray in their trailers, i believe this game would thrive! Right now, it is fine and i do really enjoy it in the right setting, but I think it could be so much more.

    I don’t feel PoT really needs an identity, it’s modding community is really expansive and overall the game has a very open gameplay loop that has no real end goal outside of getting to adult. It’s very sandbox like and I think removing that freedom would just make it repetitive and boring. The fun comes from what community members make of it really. The devs themselves seem really productive on their updates with stuff like new creatures and existing creature updates to always give you something refreshing. I don’t think PoT is really trying to be super complicated like The Isle, the lack of identity allows players to make their own identity for it, leading to endless possibilities and combative encounters. There’s also a lot less mechanics to keep track of which is much less stressful to me personally compared to The Isle and BoB which have more, which is something that deters me from those games that I feel have a less player freedom and more linear gameplay design.
    Lots of games are also supported by their modding community too, PoT is no exception. Sometimes simplicity is better than complexity.
    Edit: I don’t feel it’s very fair to judge games by their trailers. Advertising is meant to be short and enticing, not a full analysis on the gameplay. It’s not always going to be immediately informative so it’s always good to take them with a grain of salt on what the actual game is like. There are still realism servers that also do just as you describe, further adding to the benefit of PoT being so expansive.

    Honestly i feel like the freedom it grants kind of gives it that popularity. Like it’s not too physically demanding to play on pc like the isle is and you can go for realism or just straight mmo. The server rules especially with community made servers makes especially good options, where there are mmos and realisms, they can control things, etc. and what makes it better is community server owners and moderators can control what skins are available, environmental setting, growth speed, and what abilities you can have because im pretty sure they can remove certain abilities in community servers or just not make them available, while also tweaking stats to make things more realistic. So I definitely like those aspects as well. I kind of like the versatility the game provides. While i do agree on the standpoints the versatility is probably the reason why it is so popular, plus it’s one of a few games that has mods on with console, since console can’t manually get mods but this game has it practically wired with it.

Secondly you have to like the game itself, but that's on you, i've never let a trailer decide if i like a game or not: look at bob or the isle, looking at the trailer those are immersive mmo rpg with "chill" dinos that fight just when they have to, while in the actual game it looks like a TPS with dinos. This video is a really free rant and i'm not sure why you did this..

    I am not much of a fan of the MMO side of things, so I choose to play on realism servers. My server of choice is Primordial Tyrants: Realism. The community is great, the owners and mods are amazing, and every dinosaur profile is written with so much care. The gameplay is highly immersive as well. Of course there are rule breaks here and there which is immersion breaking but otherwise I have had no gripes with the server thus far.

I have found myself thinking why dont I just go play PoT when the sound stuttering is going really bad, or the games just lagging so much I cant move and I die because of it, but PoT as fun as it is feels like a dinosaur pvp/hangout game more than anything else. After the initial fear of dying was gone the game lost all tension and became a fun pvp game but I was personally looking for that survival expirience. The Isle provides that leaps and bounds better than PoT does and even through all the technical issues and shitty pc barely running it at 30 fps I keep wanting to play The Isle instead.

    People play the game how they want to, Alderon doesn't enforce how the game is played. There's servers for different things, you have no rules, semi-realism and realism. The trailers posted are just for show on what the game could be like if you were to play on semi-realism/realism servers. If you want gameplay like the trailers, just play on semi-realism/realism servers and boom, you have the trailer gameplay experience. I play on a semi-realism with dino profiles on how the said dino is supposed to act, basic survival rules, etc and I get the trailer gameplay experience. If I just wanna chill and fight, I join servers with no rules which looks like you show at 2:15 (they're just straight up fighting, no stalking, no calls, etc to be realistic, just plain fighting)

  • @gigaburgerer
    @gigaburgerer 4 месяца назад +4

    As a "survival" game, I think PoT fails spectacularly. There are barely any survival mechanics after all. The growth loss on death is nearly non-existent, and food/water is incredibly simple to fill for both carnivores and herbivores due to AI critters, static corpses, berries and whatever else. Why people are clamoring for nesting in PoT when you only grow a dino once is beyond me. You aren't going to be nesting in anyone very often due to this. If I have an adolescent rex, why would I want to be nested in as a baby rex? Lol
    However, I am looking forward to the game modes like capture the egg and what not. As I think this will be a unique experience. However the dino balance is likely to make these game modes a shit show so its hard to tell if I'll enjoy them or not. Everyone's either gonna play a big strong apex or a quick, nimble smaller dino that can evade everything. Imagine playing an amarga in any sort of instanced PvP when you can't outrun anything that can 1v1 you but can't chase down anything you can fight lol.

    Critiquing cinimatic trailers for being... cinimatic, is a kinda strange take.
    Trailers like these are meant to garner interest in a product rather than directly sell you on them. They are filmed in game yes, but they are not "Gameplay Trailers".
    Take League of Legends for example. It has countless animated trailers/cinimatics that tell you absolutely nothing about the game, but the storytelling of the trailers leads consumers to view other content of the game to then base their decisions off of.
    I just think its strange to single out path of titans of this as if it is some sort of failure of the devs to understand their own game when it is quite literally the industry standard for advertising.

    Seems to me you just connected to the first community sever, that this server was named "deathmatch" or "arena" and you just played that, got disapointed and left the game.
    If you want realism, go to a realism server. Even on random servers I find realism in behaviours and social interactions. But a lot of servers in the list have a lot of rules to help immersion and bring precisely what you say there isn't.
    It isn't a duality between marketing vs gameplay.
    It is a duality between some people who want an action packed game with quests and all, and others who just want to play in a roleplay/realistic manner.
    You didn't see it, that's why your video is wrong, sadly.

    I think that the Dino’s stats are another example of PoT’s identity crisis of the game being immersive vs arcade style.
    Take an apex like Rex and a mid-tier like Cerato matchup. You would think that the Cerato player would be cautious against a dinosaur with powerful jaws that could one shot a Cerato right? Yes and no; technically it takes a Rex 5 bites to kill a Cerato, so the risk of dying has been greatly reduced. What’s worse is that Rex has terrible agility, so the Cerato can easily tail ride the Rex and kill it if persistent enough.
    This is probably “necessary” to prevent apexes from being “OP”

    • @Mirichei
      @Mirichei 4 месяца назад

      I see this example of rex Vs cera quite a bit, and either every cera i've fought on rex can't fight well, or I can simply play rex at a "decent" level.
      With precise movement, rex can turn on a dime about as fast as a cera can run, meaning that if you keep facing it it will struggle to get behind you. Even if or when it does, a rex with half a brain would have tail attack on which would deal even more damage and normal to a cera due to how combat weight works. You could also be risky and try to land a stomp but that can easily leave you open for a free hit if that's missed.
      I simply don't struggle with smaller dinos as rex in particular when they're by themselves. Other apexs do struggle a bit more but I still have success with them

    I don't dislike POT in general and play it from time to time. It has neighter the strength of an MMO, nor the strength of immersive simulation or action game. Hiding and stalking doesn't really give You benefits. If You die it almost doesnt hurt. But it's tedious enough that it isn't really well for Deathmatches. Why add thirst and hunger if the main goal of the game is to walk across the map and catch acorns? I was really disappointed of the game after i got hyped up and bought it......content online always seems cool bcs of the roleplay people do or nice combat situations. While in reality it's just walking arround. I think the issue of the game are it's unofficial content. If the developer had to actually do something to keep the player base it wouldn't be as trashy. With Mod(ability) early on they just lean back and never got to work on real mechanics for the game. Why having so many playables when there is nothing to do? Modding is amazing when the base game is solid and not lacking. Hope to look forward to some new mechanics. Even some AI involved in a quest or danger for/from AI would be amazing. And please let me grow without the stupid "search for flowers" thing in the future.

    Boring ass game I regret buying it, everything from the quest to hunting is boring. What the hell am I supposed to do when the Dino is fully grown. The only progression system available is growing up to adulthood, what comes then… nothing of course. This and The Isle are garbage games I rather just play a broken game like Ark.
