I’m seriously impressed with the update to the quality of the stems I just updated and tried it… im really excited about this update, so here is my opinion/rant For now, this is the only software I’ve been using heavily because it’s the most accessible to me. Originally the djay software was the cheapest and most professional software I had available to me without a laptop. I got right to my stem mixing, and immediately heard a difference in the quality. There are less artifacts, a lot less and it makes mixing with stems on algorithms amazing! The beat grids I’m loving so far, no complaints there… i wish I had more to say but I rely on the waveforms as a visual aid I like the new colors on the waveform too, they may be pretty generic but they’re a step up in quality forsure. I don’t know why that is important to me, but it is.
I used Djay Pro for ages for Weddings as it’s miles ahead of all the other dj software. Finding tracks is easy, no major bugs, sorting is good and it can mix itself properly if you need to duck away for a minute
Thanks Phil! Great review as always! I have used djay pro for years, and I concur, it has been tough seeing the STEMS on alot of other software, and I forced myself back on Serato since the STEMs and echo out effects are great, but my heart is always with Djay Pro and it didn't seem to get a lot of love due to RB, Virtual DJ and Serato. Lastly, it just doesn't work with a lot of controllers as you mentioned, unless you MIDI map them, which can be challenging at times, you just want things to be plug and play. Virtual DJ is amazing at that since it works with everything, I just wish DJay Pro would take that cue and be open since there are some controllers I would love to get and ones on the shelf that I would use if they are Djay Pro compatible. My 2 cents!
I am a serato dj user. But I prefer using this when it comes to stems. This is my other option software to practice. When version 5 came out It blew me away. The best part was my library automatically loaded from my iPad library
Some great new features there, I really like the new cross-fader options especially the vocal sustain/cut and tempo match. But what are DJs going to do by way of theatrical performance if there are no EQ knobs that need twiddling during transitions?
Great video Phil, I just updated my devices today, MacOS, iPad and iPhone, thanks for the breakdown, I think for what I do I might be able to ditch Serato with this

so how do you use this? can you use it with a serato mixer? do you just need the timecode vinyl and you're good to go? are the stems as good as serato?
Been waiting for this in Serato. They can extract stems like a AI magician but can seem to find a simple tempo change 😂 Thanks Djay Pro for showing them how it’s done
2:53 In Serato I would put a manual down beat marker at the start of every bar, but having the software do that is amazing off course. Now what would this software do if you would have pressed sync before the tempo slows? Would sync continue to follow the songs tempo or would it keep the song synced to the previous faster tempo?
@@digitaldjtips still unclear. If in Serato I put a downbeat marker on ever bar such that the song's beat grid follows the song's tempo, let's say from 120 bpm down to 100 bpm, then if I press sync at the 120 bpm section, Serato's sync will speed up the master song to keep it tightly locked to 120 bpm. So rather then that the master sync also slows down to 100 bpm, it just keeps everything locked to 120 bpm, which I don't want. I want that all other songs slow down to 100 bpm as well
Please help! Since the update, the BPM of a lot of songs are changing during the song and the same happens when I mix it with a other track with sync turned on. As like Djay Pro is constantly analyzing it and the mixed track is suddenly played on a slower BPM, than the tempo was via sync. Many thanks in advance guys
What you're describing is how it is meant to behave I think. Unless you're playing with tracks with big BPM changes, this wouldn't be noticeable to the audience. The overall DJ set BPM will always follow whichever deck is set to the master, which would normally be the first of the two tracks (ie the one you are mixing out of) so you may want to check this.
The stem separation is absolutely phenomenal, and the improvement is mental ❤... BUT, I'm sure they are gonna fix this, but there are a lot of new bugs that have come with it that a few people, including myself, have had the misfortune of running into. Mainly to do with fx processing, there is no longer a wet dry option, and now it just changes effect volume, also no longer shows on screen which effect is changing, and the new beat grid isn't exactly perfect, because it runs this new automatic way of doing things, this results in the software doing it's own thing, and sometimes it will just automatically increase or decrease tempo of the next song or the one cutrently playing, it aint perfect sadly. So I think there should be a choice to make beat griding manual or automatic, depending on preference. Another new bug is that sometimes the beat sync will randomly turn off without prompt, not ideal to have to go back and fourth with it constantly 😕 But when these issues are fixed, this new software will be unstoppable ❤❤❤
Thanks for the feedback here, I know Algoriddim reads these comments and I am sure they'll be listening and working on fixes for things that aren't quite right.
@digitaldjtips oh I'm sure, they have been so reliable up until this point and they know what they are doing.... just hope they fix it before Sunday cos that's when the next show is 😄
Thank you very much for what you do to our dj community globally. Please, is it possible to do a review on the dynamic beat grid on djay pro? I am a mobile and wedding dj and most if not all of my events are within the African community. Some of the music I play are currently not being accurately analysed by djay pro. The problem is, I am not to sure if the software allows one to manually analyse music files. Could you kindly help with a session on this please? Many thanks in anticipation, DJ SaoTao.
How come Algoriddim Djay stems are realtime and Traktor 4 takes ages just to extract stems on one track? the Algorriddim stems also seem cleaner to me? Real time stems are essential imo, thanks for the vid 🙏
Could you please post a step-by-step tutorial on the following for Rekordbox: I have a track where the beatgrid changes about halfway through. I DON'T NEED TO ADJUST THE BEATGRID FOR THE WHOLE SONG. It's already on the grid. There's a half-bar thing that changes the grid about halfway through the track and throws it off the grid. How do I adjust the grid from where the track changes halfway through so that it lines up properly from that point on, while not changing the grid on the first half of the track? Can't find any tutorials on this. Thanks
whats the mapping support for controllers like? How does this app compare to VDJ, who provide the best stems integration. Would be good to see a comparison
Dan, this is my everyday software, been using it for the last 10 years as their dedication to accessibility/screen reader support for us blindies is second to none! If you wanted to have a play around some time you're welcome to come round and have a look at my copy. MIDI mapping is pretty straightforward and the stems are now much improved over VDJ, but feel free to bring VDJ over and we can run some comparisons in my studio to see how they sound... Stu.
djay is making a big push, seeing them on all the channels. They had to nail the gridding, the system they sell with this (the mixer you plug in) has no jogs so you can not adjust live really. It was less fun than playing with the more "hands on" systems. It's about time for DJ software to evolve. It has been basically the same (with some QOL improvements and slight additions (stems, more efx). It has basically been the same though. Think of what has been happening to the power of computers and tech in that same time. Compare the growth in video games during that time.
True, starting to get that "dinosaur" feel. They should be careful that label, hopefully this will light a fire under them. djay was clever with this. Most clubs festivals will have a V10 or an A9, both which have the multi io and the A9 has bluetooth. You can use it straight from the phone to the mixer. That opens up a limitless realm of software possibilities. Just make sure that your program/ app is mapped really well the basic club set up (and the few variations you see). Lots of possibility there.@@digitaldjtips
Curious on the beatgrid. Would it work for mashups if the track that is the master, with a tempo change for another track to follow the tempo change if it’s sync’d?
i wonder how the old school DJ's will feel towards this kind of software. will they embrace this kind of technology? it seems like the new era of DJing is going AI power/technology. I gotta up ma game now and start learning more of the digital world.
Phill, I tried this software, and it does have some amazing features. It seems like it's making DJing too easy. I feel like it's robbing from us our innovative and creative capabilities. It's like this software is doing the DJing for me. All I have to do is select songs I want and adjust the volume. The program even scratches for me... lol

TIDAL IS PROBABLY NOT DOING STEMS RIGHT? I’M NOT OPPOSED TO STREAMING. WHAT STREAMING PLATFORM DO YOU RECOMMEND THAT WOULD BE AVAILBLE TO USE STEMS? ANOTHER QUESTION I HAVE IS -WHAT KIND OF DJ CONVERSION possibilities ARE AVAILABLE FOR SOFTWARE INTEGRATION?
All of the others in DJ software currently still work with stems, but maybe not for long as it is the record labels, not Tidal, that put a stop to it. Look at Lexicon DJ for library conversion between software apps.
@@digitaldjtips Thanks for the info! Would Lexicon transfer cue points to Rekordbox? It almost seems like I’m forced to use Rekordbox for music file formatting to use some of the night club flagship decks and all in one systems. Not having stems isn’t a deal breaker for me, but I got used to mixing with them in addition to the EQ quite nice of a balancing act. I would really only like to use one streaming service, I understand beatport offers streaming as well as stem use. What is the sound quality in comparison to Tidal?
Question: on the previous version it was possible to select “Automatic” for crossfade fx when used with Automix, so each song has a new random fx when transitioning to the next song. Is that possible on this version ?or do your have to select just one crossfade effect?
This is insane for someone who play mostly old funk, Motown and soul music. My main question Phil is, with my Rane One if I play in a pro even if I will have a lost of audio quality if I use that software vs Serato Dj Pro ? Or what will I or the audience will lose ? thanks so much for all you important content you always let us know about it.
Dj funk Kik, I have been using Djay Pro since 2020. I have a Rane One and it maps automatically. Although I mix mainly house and Disco, I do run some funk and it always sounds great. I would suggest you downloading it in your laptop and try it out. You won’t be disappointed. @djerniefromjersey
Here's my example: Deck 1 is sync'd to deck 2. Yet deck 1 is playing at, say, a 15% slower tempo than it's original tempo. To get deck 1 back to it's original tempo, I used to adjust deck 1's tempo. And there appeared a kind of ghosted or shadow indicator that I could move until it hit the current tempo. And I would adjust from there. Now, that helpful ghosted or shadow indicator is gone. How do I get it back? Thank you so much!
I'm thinking of getting two control vinyls for djay pro and using it for a while instead of serato to see how it goes. Can anyone tell me if there are mapping or other problems with the Rane Seventy mixer or if everything is ok?
I’m gonna try this software. Can someone recommend a controller to use with my iPad please? I don’t mind spending a bit of money but am confused with having to map a controller not recommended by apple. Any help appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻

Another new bug is that sometimes the beat sync will randomly turn off without prompt, not ideal to have to go back and fourth with it constantly 😕
But when these issues are fixed, this new software will be unstoppable ❤❤❤
Thanks for the suggestion. We’ll see what we can do.
How come Algoriddim Djay stems are realtime and Traktor 4 takes ages just to extract stems on one track? the Algorriddim stems also seem cleaner to me? Real time stems are essential imo, thanks for the vid 🙏
Could you please post a step-by-step tutorial on the following for Rekordbox:
I have a track where the beatgrid changes about halfway through.
Thanks
You cannot do this, but it shouldn’t matter as long as you are aware of it
@@digitaldjtips No, I believe there is a way to do this.
C'mon NI's Traktor, this is how beat grids should be. Will have to switch software if they don't come up with something new soon.
Can't see it happening any time soon, in all honesty
whats the mapping support for controllers like? How does this app compare to VDJ, who provide the best stems integration. Would be good to see a comparison
Dan, this is my everyday software, been using it for the last 10 years as their dedication to accessibility/screen reader support for us blindies is second to none!
If you wanted to have a play around some time you're welcome to come round and have a look at my copy.
MIDI mapping is pretty straightforward and the stems are now much improved over VDJ, but feel free to bring VDJ over and we can run some comparisons in my studio to see how they sound... Stu.
Thanks for this review!
My pleasure!
Muito bom! Um abraço do Brasil
Hi phil, is hercules inpulse 500 compatible with this app? thank you !
Probably, if not it could be mapped.
I'd like to see Serato do that 😂😂
Maybe it will one day
djay is making a big push, seeing them on all the channels.
It shows how archaic other DJ platforms are starting to look under the hood
True, starting to get that "dinosaur" feel. They should be careful that label, hopefully this will light a fire under them. djay was clever with this. Most clubs festivals will have a V10 or an A9, both which have the multi io and the A9 has bluetooth. You can use it straight from the phone to the mixer. That opens up a limitless realm of software possibilities. Just make sure that your program/ app is mapped really well the basic club set up (and the few variations you see). Lots of possibility there.@@digitaldjtips
I am curious so could you mix a old disco record for the 70s with a quantised track?
Yes, that's the idea, it works really well.
I love DJAY PRO was funny when my DJAY PRO AI disappeared off my MAC and this new version appeared! killa!
Enjoy using it!
Curious on the beatgrid. Would it work for mashups if the track that is the master, with a tempo change for another track to follow the tempo change if it’s sync’d?
Yes it would
Is there any way I could remap my XDJ-RX to work with that, or would I have to buy Reloop gear for that?
No, remapping is possible and actually quite easy with this software
Elastic grids ftw! 🕺
These are even better than manual elastic grids.
@@digitaldjtips Certainly. That's what I meant. Great to see this move forward. Is in Traktor's roadmap too.
i wonder how the old school DJ's will feel towards this kind of software. will they embrace this kind of technology? it seems like the new era of DJing is going AI power/technology. I gotta up ma game now and start learning more of the digital world.
You certainly have you don’t wanna be left behind
Phill, I tried this software, and it does have some amazing features. It seems like it's making DJing too easy. I feel like it's robbing from us our innovative and creative capabilities. It's like this software is doing the DJing for me. All I have to do is select songs I want and adjust the volume. The program even scratches for me... lol
Did I see you have different annotations for key (mixed in key?) than the usual Djay ones for the track key? How did you achieve this if so?
It's in the settings I believe, not looked for a while!
So what reccommendation for an open format DJ as far as hardware goes? Want plug in play Thanks in advance
Mixon 8 Pro
Did they remove Vocal Cut from the crossfader FX? Only have Vocal Sustain, Harmonic Sustain, and Drum Swap.
Not that I know of, it is on ours
Amazing. Does Djay support video mixing?
Yes
Good morning can this software work with my Pioneer Rev7 and how ?
In theory but not perfectly
I did not see any post fader options in the crossfader fusion. Virtual dj has post fader.
Hello, I'm Mario from Argentina, could you tell me the characteristics of your macbook because I need to buy a new one and I see that your macbook works very well, could you give me the characteristics if it is a macbook air or a macbookpro, thank you
Macbook Air M1
@@digitaldjtipsHello, is it 8 or 16 of ram memory?
hello i have a issue with mine, its asked to plug a sound card to my Mac , do you know how I can use djay without that ? would be really helpful thanks
Yes, you can use the software without external sound cards.
Is djay pro 5 finally compatible with the XDJ-XZ?
We don't know, not tried it.
Will Serato and Engine be doing anything similar in the future?
We don't know!
Thanks for the reply 👍🏻
Does it work with Rane Four
What is the sound quality in comparison to Tidal?
will saving a loop to a file , ever be a feature?
No idea!
Question: on the previous version it was possible to select “Automatic” for crossfade fx when used with Automix, so each song has a new random fx when transitioning to the next song. Is that possible on this version ?or do your have to select just one crossfade effect?
I do not know the answer to that! Maybe ask Algoriddim support (and come back and tell us when you know, we'd appreciate that).
Most important thing is if the Rane One has been properly mapped to djay Pro and I am not sure about that - check their site.
Sure sure sounds good BUT what about being able to separate stems whilst streaming ? This was the biggest plus about DJ PRO…now it’s suddenly gone!!!
Same in all DJ software
Here's my example: Deck 1 is sync'd to deck 2. Yet deck 1 is playing at, say, a 15% slower tempo than it's original tempo. To get deck 1 back to it's original tempo, I used to adjust deck 1's tempo. And there appeared a kind of ghosted or shadow indicator that I could move until it hit the current tempo. And I would adjust from there. Now, that helpful ghosted or shadow indicator is gone. How do I get it back? Thank you so much!
So no "soft takeover" any more? Not sure why, we'll investigate...
@@digitaldjtips Thanks so much! Any progress on this answer?
omg the bass separation and melody is very good. Almost on par with demucs HT
Probably better
@@digitaldjtips Yes better than Demucs 4, and faster just incredible
Is this for Djay Macbook ? because I can't find the stems option .
Yes
Neat! Is Luke still using his phone to play out???
He is indeed
Where do the beatgrids get saved to? Can I analyze my migration in djay and then use them in serato?
No, you can only use them in djay, there is no common standard for sharing beatgrid information unfortunately.
I'm thinking of getting two control vinyls for djay pro and using it for a while instead of serato to see how it goes. Can anyone tell me if there are mapping or other problems with the Rane Seventy mixer or if everything is ok?
It's just DVS so in that respect it will work fine
I’m gonna try this software. Can someone recommend a controller to use with my iPad please? I don’t mind spending a bit of money but am confused with having to map a controller not recommended by apple. Any help appreciated 👍🏻👍🏻
Mixon 8 Pro
I need to try to analyse a salsa track to see the results, but this looks promising
Interesting to hear your results.
WOWWAWIEWA 👍 Would the DJPro 5 work on the XDJ XZ?
In theory, yes you could map it (not the screen though).
Hi Phil. I still cannot arrange my songs in my playlist. I’m using windows PC. How can I arrange my songs in my playlists? Thanks in advance
If you're trying to do it in streaming, I do not believe it is possible.
