After being down 38-8, Byron Leftwich rallied his team to a 64-61 victory in 2OT. Leading the comeback, Leftwich threw for nearly 600 yards, and had five touchdowns. This game boosted his draft stock, and led to him eventually being the No. 7 pick in the 2003 NFL Draft. What performance would you like to see remembered next?
seen it in person Byron Leftwich was The best ive seen in person at college level. The Raw power he had and could hit any spot at any time passing even on one leg. truly phenomenal and underated at Marshall . I live in Wv and i couldnt be prouder of Byron Leftwich he deserves everything he has achieved and is achieving down in Tampa with the 🐐and The Bucs.
That throw on 4th and 5 down 24-0... 0:38 I haven't seen a more effortless, unreal throw in some time. How can any football analyst not love that throw???
Alfredo Cervantes they were different throws. He had no pressure on the first one, he had all day. He got fucking lit the fuck up on the one at 4:00 and fit it underneath the safeties and over the linebacker. Unreal.
Honestly thought I was going crazy for a second when I read Alabama QB AJ McCaron at the bottom of the ticker. Started thinking I know damn well Byron didn’t go to school while AJ was at Alabama😂😂😂😂
Leftwich balls out all game long makes a flawless throw to tie the game Kicker has ONE JOB make the PAT and he misses it SMH good thing they won Leftwich played out of his mind
I remember watching Marshall in the early 2000's because of Leftwich. Not even a Marshall fan but he was fun!!! Also on ESPN+ or ESPN 2 back in the day
I had Marshall for 300 in this game and at half changed the game to watch another game and saw that they were coming back to get the W. At this time this was the greatest comeback in college football history. Broke the records.
Always had great respect for Leftwich. He had true grit. Real moxie. Also, he was my favorite "racist trap" QB. People always spoke about him as though he was fast-and let's be honest, it's because he was black. In reality, the guy had average speed at best. At worst, he was a Drew Bledsoe-style statue.
Leftwitch like Bledsoe was a pocket passer and he was screwed over by Jacksonville by not providing him more athletic offensive linemen to pass block for him. Black QBs are always put in that trap of being called DUAL THREATS but when WHITE QBs have athletic ability they are called athletic QBs instead of great athletes case and point JOHN ELWAY&RANDALL CUNNINGHAM.Elway had athletic ability but he was never called a great athlete like Cunningham.
Marshall used to be a deadly team to play in the 90s and early 2000s it was their greed that killed them by leaving the Mac for the CUSA now they are just a shell of what they once were
It's really incredible that these 2 teams ended up in such a legendary bowl game. Marshall was traveling back from East Carolina when their plane crashed in the early 70s. Legendary game! And the end of a legit Marshall run began by Jim Donnan in the early 90s! They went from 2-A champs to undefeated MAC champs and a 1999 campaign that left them in the top 10 in the nation by the end. NO SCHOOL has come back from MORE and went FARTHER!!!!
Blake Clark They did not update their OFFENSIVE LINE while LEFTWICH was playing in Jacksonville that was the problem he could have played just as a long as CARSON PALMER.Leftwich was the ORIGINAL JAMARCUS RUSSELL WITHOUT THE WEIGHT PROBLEM.
@@Ianthesportsguy91 injury yes inconsistency what are you talking about. How is he going to be great when he got injured before he ever came out of college.
@@MMAGamblingTips you can understand my skepticism though cause he wasn't a good play caller as a quarterback and therefore it's huge long shot he'd be a good play caller as O.C but time will tell but all I'm saying is don't be surprised if bruce arians pulls a Dirk Koetter and snatch the play calling duties away from byron leftwich. But with over 7 months away from next season we'll have to wait and see but in my opinion I don't like his odds at keeping his play calling duties nor his job O.C due to the fact he's basically a unproven rookie coach.

Harris Highlights the game that people learned to never forget the name of DeShaun Watson? Or the game that made Darnold a top 3 pick.
Harris Highlights Khalil Tate 327 rushing yards and 5 tds. Or Melvin Gordon vs Nebraska.
Tre Mason vs Missouri would be a good hidden gem like this one. He had over 300 yards against them in the SEC championship game in 2013
Harris Highlights Suh vs Texas. One of the most dominant performances I've seen from a single player in any sport
Harris Highlights Where is the rest of this game????????
David Gerard ended up being pretty solid as well.
Kayman234 in fact, he ended up taking Leftwich’s starting QB spot in Jacksonville
Dakota Truitt was gonna comment the same thing
he was way better than leftwich, the jags made a mistake starting byron from 04-06 over Garrard
David Garrard would be even better in today’s NFL with the RPO
He put up better stats then Leftwich in the nfl
Battle of future jaguar qbs
Scootnoob 21 kinda crazy how that happens. Shoulda done a double highlight video
Yea its pretty cool lol
Leftwich had an absolute Cannon attached to his right shoulder. One of the coolest most unique releases ever.
I’ve never seen a quarterback throw a ball like that in my life!! By far the most underrated precision passer! (With Power!!!)

They did, that’s why he went #7.
Crazy to think both Qb’s where on the Jags at one point
The coach face when he tied the game 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bigdawggrese Channel POINT TAKEN LOL HE HAD THE LOOK OF I SURRENDERED AFTER HE THREW FOR HIS 3RD TD AND CROSSED THE 300 YD BARRIER.
He was sooo mad 😠 lol

The facial expressions of the ECU coach at the end 😂

Heck I'm glad he missed. They were giving 2.5 points. I won the bet for 300. Greatest game.
cali_kid619 that was garbagio on the kickers part!

Matt M That’s why I’m here! Lol!!

Lol people kinda do the same thing now with mahomes just assume hes fast because hes black but he ran a 4.8 combine 40
Ironically, Gerard was back up, and successor to Leftwich in Jacksonville.
Leftwich was my favorite QB growing up he was really good. His career ended horribly though.
Byron leftwich I remember watching him play talk about skills throwing power and having a prototype size for a QB he was the real deal had a cannon
The coaches face for ECU was hilarious!!!

Might want to pay attention... they have a core now that should be contending for the Access Bowl slot over the next couple years.
It was actually a plane that killed them not greed
@@TroyTrojansMedia That plane crash happened in 1970, 50 years ago in 2020!
@@colleenjohnson3270 It was sarcasm moron
weird these 2 ended up playing for the same team back to back.
Imagine if he left after this game? HE would be the first pick in the 2002 draft. Would've been nuts to see him, and Andre Johnson together.
I don't think so he would have been in the same situation like David Carr a great QB with a horrible offensive line.

Denard Robinson comeback against Notre Dame 2011
Yes sirrr
That's my cousin
Shelly Leftwich your cousin was that nigga
Shelly I knew your cousins Tron, Eggie, and Ms Brenda back in the day when we were youngins in SE DC.
Awesome player.
Please Tim Biakabutuka against Ohio State in ‘95
What I wouldn't give to get this kind of magic back in Marshall's program.
That mustache and suit at 1:14
Crazy that both qbs ended up battling for the starting position at Jacksonville.
Everyone: *Hey How's life going??*
Me: 7:03
Two future teammates Garrard and Leftwich
i still think byron didnt get enough chances to qb in the nfl dude was a monster
I never knew this game was against David Garrard’s team lol someone who ended up being his backup then took his job in Jax
Life long ECU fan but dang that Leftwich could sling it!
Dude had a strong arm!
Byron "golden arm" Leftwich
Wow that intro was just beautiful
Leftwich could really sling it.
DUUUUUUUVVVVVVAAAAAALLLLLLLL
ECU’S COACH IS HILARIOUS 🤣🤣🤣
Well DAMN!
Who’s here after he just won the super bowl as an offensive coordinator
yep!
Damn
you need insurance for the insurance with this guy
DC’s finest
Woah that mustache out of nowhere
We Are...!
My boy
He could move a little back then too. Deceptively agile.
Which team did he go to again?
Jacksonville Jaguars.
JT Barrett vs Penn State or Zeke Elliot vs Alabama
What about JT Barret vs Iowa?
Leftwich was really tall and he could throw from the pocket.
I saw him on SNL
Whatever happened to Rakeem Cato?
Griffin Conaway I think he is in arena fb. After not doing well in Canada.
Classic
The Pivot brought me here.
This game isn't even on sports reference lol how
Gerard was the best QB we ever had.
that ECU coach has no poker face what so ever lol
Before Jamarcus Russell
If only he were a little quicker on the draw he'd probably still be playing instead of coaching
No defense what so ever. Also 2001? The U!!
The audacity of that mustache 1:25
They could have fake the Spike and game over
Leftwich turned out to be a bust unfortunately, but great coilege career and arm talent, just never put it all together
Bust? That’s a bit harsh
2020 defense didn't exist
LMAO
ECU's coach looks useless
They scored 61 and lost lol
The reason he didn’t do well in the NFL is because the Jags drafted him.
