The Attack of the Dead Men was a battle of World War 1 that took place at Osowiec Fortress (now northeastern Poland), on August 6, 1915. The incident got its name from the bloodied, zombie-like appearance of the Russian combatants after they were bombarded with a mixture of poison gases, chlorine and bromine, by the Germans. The sight of them bleeding from eyes, coughing up their lungs scared the Germans so bad that they retreaded stumbling over their own traps.
someone who survived getting cooked by chlorin and bromine for hours and still comes for you...well there is no point in fighting him dude is clearly immortal
Thanks for the history fact. I was curious about the background of the actual song. I just recently came across sabaton through the song dreadnought. It's been actually really inspiring as I write my next book.
What is sung in the song tells about a very terrible event... This poisonous gas is a mixture of chlorine and bromine... When the Germans released it at Russian positions in an area 8 km wide, all living things died... The leaves on the trees turned yellow and fell off ... The grass turned black... Even the metal oxidized and darkened... This gas, interacting with water in the air, turned into sulfuric acid, which corroded everything... The skin and mucous membranes instantly turned into continuous bleeding wounds... The moisture in the lungs turned into acid, which corroded them from the inside... But despite all this nightmare 100 Russian soldiers rushed to attack the 7000 German army... The sight of the advancing Russian soldiers dying, bloody and corroded by acid terrified the Germans and they rushed to run back, trampling each other... After this attack was called the “Attack of the Dead”... Against the backdrop of these terrible events, a worldwide agreement on the inadmissibility of use of chemical weapons.
These people were defending the fortress so hard, that no matter how Germans attacked, they couldn't capture it. Russian command asked, as they thought, of impossible - hold a fortress for mere 48 hours... They held for 190 days. After the gas attack, that is mentioned in the song, germans, "7000 charge en masse", made another attempt of capturing the fortress. Yet they were faced by... 60 near-to-mortally poisoned soldiers. All that was left of 13 squad, 233 Zemlyanskij regiment. They liiked like the walking dead indeed, but they fought back. together with another remains of Russian reguments it was about 160-200 men... Heavily poisoned... against 7000 8-th german army. Their look and their bravery made some of german soldiers believe that they a re truly facing a living dead army. So they retreated.
Just goes to show, when the Germans - who have a major connection to mythology and superstition even today - see the gaunt forms of soldiers who simply refuse to give in to the icy grip of death itself as they're being eaten away by chemicals now outlawed by the Geneva Convention rising to hold the line against a force that should roll over them like a tidal surge, turn and retreat, they know they're never gonna break them no matter how malicious they get.
Not only about war. First album was metal. They got a realy good cover called camouflage, its not about war but about a ghost. Cant remember who sang it originaly, but both versions are great
Not to be that guy but in this occasion they weren’t prepared at all They used cloths because they have no gas masks, and clothes are quite ineffective against chlorine gas, it’s more about how they just refuse to die whatsoever
I mean, that's the whole point of the song. The Russians were literally throwing up pieces of their own lungs, yet they continued to stagger toward the Germans with rifles in hand. That's fucking badass. Plus, the Russian army was not prepared at all for WW1. The country didn't undergo the same amount of industrialization that most of Europe had already gone through. A lot of their troops weren't even equipped with rifles. And they had some stupid generals.
Greetings from far, far and cold Finland! .. I hope you react this emotional and super cool (anti) war song. Sabaton - No bullets fly (animated version) super cool super emotional real story of ww2, i promise that!!
послушай пожалуйста песню (это все что останется мне) честно говоря ты мало что можешь понять о русском народе поскольку много фейка но я русский Я горжусь своим народом а ты? Своим?

Camouflage was a song about a Marines ghost in the Vietnam war aiding a lone soldier stuck in the jungle alone.
