Nice reaction Spiderland is one of those albums that has so much depth it's hard to get into on first listen. It took me years for it to click Wouldn't say it's my favourite album out of any genre it covers but it is one of the greatest and most important rock albums of all time
Yes. My first listen on here was a bit tough but i had a feeling there was something special about it beneath the surface. ive listened a few times since and it's already growing on me.
I'm from the same city as the slint members and had always hoped to run into one of them one day by coincidence. Sure enough, a couple weeks ago I was at the skatepark and ran into Will Oldham (he took the spiderland album cover he also has his own music that is really good). Really cool dude I was talking to him about how just a week before that I got one of his albums on vinyl. Spiderland will always be my #1 album, never have heard anything like it, and it holds great memories and sentimental value with me. Great video btw
As far as other post-hardcore bands flirting with these kinds of elements in the early 90s, check out Unwound, Moss Icon, Native Nod, and another Slint-influenced Kentucky band, Rodan.
"Ominous" may be a perfect adjective for this album... but as grown ups we tend to put dark stuff on things that just blew naturaly. When I discovered this album at 16, we used to try to play those guitars' parts by the river on summer vacation, with a campfire and everything.. and it was nothing but dark.. just teenage resentments.. nobody heard about it and it sounded so pure to play it, unique and gorgeous in the moonlight. I think it's nothing much than purity, integrity as a full expression of teenage years... the "ominous" thing is about what will come next.
I love your expressive description of this album. Yeah, I felt something in this album that I don't feel often with albums. It was hard to put my finger on it but you've done a good job of expressing that feeling.
@@gamedead9173 It sure is an asshole comment : "it will grow on you".. but if i could say it just for one album.. yeah this one.. of course I'd pick this one. Definetly. Take a look on the documentary about them... on YT.. They were just kids.. it's.. embarrassing. (And thank you Keep on the good things.)
this guy looks exactly like vinny from vinesauce but sounds nothing like him its amazing. also dope reaction EDIT: im glad spiderland is growing on you, same thing happened to me, its amazing. so far i haven't heard anything that sounds anything like it (except for maybe mogwai) and in terms of inventiveness i can compare it to black midi: a bunch of teenagers doing their own thing in a basement
Ahhh I forgot how much I love Washer. My head is empty. my toes are warm. I'm safe from harm.
абсолютли
Washer is my favorite track.
Good Morning, Captain is in my top 5 closing tracks of all time
After listening to it a few more times I realized how great that song is. Super powerful!

Haha I'm not familiar with vinesauce, ill have to check him out!
It's weird how I can sometimes tell that something is special even before I start enjoying it. Some artists just have it.

One of my favorite albums
1991. This is post rock before that was a genre or word people even knew to use. Lol
Also, anti-climatic climaxes…welcome to Slint. Lol
