  • The misunderstanding of God's sovereignty creates huge road blocks to receiving God's love. Attributing life's pains to God ruins relationship with him. It's time to get it right.

One time while I was in college I had the unique opportunity to go have supper at my pastor's house (it was a very large church). On the way home from school, my bicycle slipped out from under me; I fell and hit my chin on pavement, needing several stitches. I was mostly disappointed about missing the supper - but I thought, "Well, I guess God didn't want me to go. Maybe something really bad would have happened." I can see now how ridiculous that thought is! God certainly didn't cause me to fall off my bike! The truth is that the road was slippery because it had been raining. I wasn't mindful of it because I was so excited about the supper. But I also think part of the reason I thought it was God was to comfort my disappointment. Obviously wrong teaching was a big part also.
But I am so grateful for this solid Biblical teaching - and excited to start Charis Bible College in the Fall!

I like how you elaborate on the "if it's good, it's God, if it's bad, it's the devil" quote

I am glad that someone chose to take a stand against the wrong teachings in the church community. Thank you Andrew, you're an inspiration to not shrink back from telling the truth in love.

Thank God for this clarification! There is a lot of wrong teaching in the church. I was told miracles don't happen anymore, wrong.

My church just skirts around the issue and doesn't mention it.

I'd really like it if you could cover the verses about God giving and taking away, and accepting both good and trouble from him (job)

Hello, Taylor! Thank you for reaching out to us for more clarification on the book of Job. We've included some notes from Andrew's Living Commentary that we believe will help you better understand this topic.
      Job 1:21 (KJV)
21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD.
"Job credited the Lord as being the One who brought this calamity upon him. As I’ve already revealed in my note at Job 1:8, Satan is really the instigator of all this evil. It is not God’s nature to hurt those who love and serve Him. But it couldn’t have happened without the Lord’s consent. The Lord said in Job 2:3 that Satan had moved Him to destroy Job without cause, thereby taking responsibility for what happened.
How does this fit with James 1:13? It doesn’t. This is different than what James said about the Lord. But James was under a different covenant. That’s the key. New Testament believers will never have God do to them what happened to Job. Tragedy has never been a blessing in the Bible (see my note at Deuteronomy 28:15); it was always a curse. But Christ redeemed us from the curse (Galatians 3:13). Thank God for Jesus and the New Covenant."

@@AndrewWommackMin Wow! I didn't even realize both of these verses were from Job. I'd only seen them taken out of context, so I didn't even consider that the speaker could be misguided. I didn't dare question it. This is a big relief.

This is such an eye opener! I have always believe that God is in control and if something bad happens, like this corona virus, He allowed it. It didn't come from him but he allowed it.
But may i be enlightened on this, how come bad things happen to godly people? For example, a young girl got raped even when she is pursuing God and is a part of a godly family? How can we trust God's promise of protection if this still happens even for believers?
