I would say the depth of the body is the main factor in mandolin sound. My early 1900's Martin has a 2 3/4 inch deep mahogany body and has a very rich and bell like tone compared to my new Collings. All these Collings mandolins have very shallow maple bodies and a more compressed sound that people associate with bluegrass. The difference in tone between different Collings styles seems very small to me. I love my new Collings by the way!
Both beautiful instruments, but between the two of these I like the A better. That said, I've gotten a strong impression that oval hole vs f-hole and Engelmann vs Adirondack are among the most significant factors in mandolin sound, with A-style vs F-style being more a matter of esthetic taste.
Thanks guys, but I live in North Louisiana. And am Financially embarrassed , old and ill at the time. I do love your videos and who knows, I just might get a Blessing and be able to ride up to Bozeman.
I got the mt butttt i thought the mf sounds better?? Grass is always greener 😂❤

A style wins it for me. But I wouldn't kick the F style out the door either. Both very nice.
I really like that A mandolin. Where can I play one?
We have this mandolin in stock right now in our store in Bozeman, MT!
