- Garnet Rogers talking about and performing one heck of a powerful song. Doug Long backs him up on fiddle. Please excuse the occasional hiccoughs, but it's encoded from a vidow tape
One of the most emotional reactions from a song i've felt in a long time.
Words cannot describe................
I first saw Garnet in '84 or '85 after Stan passed away. The audience was diverse and everyone was blown away (he's also very humorous). Every once in a while he appears at the meandthee coffeehouse in Marblehead, MA and other local venues. It's always a great experience- I would encourage everyone impressed with music to see him live. These posts are excellent, Clint- thank you.
Not JUST the chorus, but some of those lines as well....such as, "They (the letters) revealed the prisoner on each page, the (this) man I thought so free." Makes ME contemplate the sadness of not REALLY knowing what's inside of a family member.
Hope everyone is doing well after all these years! God bless
beautiful Garnet..
tearing up I m going to give my brother a call god bless you Garnet rogers
I first heard this tune on New Year's night, 1995, and immediately knew I was listening-to/experiencing something special...I'd swear that my heart-rate dropped by fifty percent...my biological response when in the presense of great emotional insight. The tune has been part of my soul ever since.
This song has to be on my list of the top 10 songs ever written...
Garnet is absolutely beautiful. Such deep songs, just love him!
Yeah I would entirely agree with this. He is an exceptional performer. If anyone ever gets close enough to see him, Greg Brown or Ellis Paul take that opportunity. They are all very worth going out of your way to see.
One of my favorite songs ever....it's songs like this; lyrics, pictures painted in words that are why love music...I can never listen to this song and NOT feel something.....and usually after I've listened to it, I listen to it again, right away...can never get enough.
Even though I haven't lost a brother . . .somehow, I understand him. Brilliant.
Who on Earth disliked this?
Thank you for posting this song. So very lovely!
i seen him in 1996....i was in awe the whole time...didn't want to leave...lol...incredible performer
I requested that he perform "This Shirt" at this year's Summerfest in New Bedford. He complied, and the crowd LOVED it.
Thanx so much, Clint.
And a really genuine nice guy who gives so much back to the craft.
If this song gets to you, its on the album "Summer Lightning". His take on Mary Chapin Carpenter's "The Shirt" and "A Row of Small Trees" will effect you.
@brackpin MOST singer-songwriters are at their best in the small venue!!
great as always Garnet
Never heard of Garnet-boy what a voice! Will buy his cd's.
I have seen him twice at WUMB in UMASS Boston. Got to speak to him and he is a great person.
Thanks for posting, wonderful music.
Love Love Garnet
Stan led me here, funny to find myself on your channel Clinton. Cheers man hope all is well.
Listen to Garnet's song "A Row Of Small Trees".
Heartfelt wonderful......nice video!
My favorite song of his still is from his first album-Westland Winds-
I seen him in person several times. This is one of my all time
Thank you Garnett.
All these years later - still emotive, heartfelt & poignant. A true genius of singing & songwriting.
