It just requires some preparation before heading out and being careful. Lets just say that moving around like in most CRPGs will 100% get you killed here. Underrail is very "realistic" in the fact it depicts a post apocalyptic world where you are the prey just as much as u can be the predator. Small steps is the way to go.

@@SpecShadow Well, I have pretty much complete Aphantasia and can't imagine anything in my head, which significantly hampers my ability for orientation, especially in the absence of many unique landmarks and features.

Just started it recently on normal and i don't understand why people keep calling this game too difficult. The only difficulty is wandering too far and encountering enemies you're not prepared to fight yet
The game has some weird difficulty spikes here and there, but overall game isn't that hard if you have any experience in the genre and don't make your build too thin (which is not the same thing as minmaxing, believe it or not).
"The only difficulty is wandering too far and encountering enemies you're not prepared to fight yet" . Mainly this. Game is an open word it jyst does not tell you you should not explore it all at once. Which makes sense really. Also game rewards preparation as opposed to gung ho approach. Most ppl got an issue with both things I mentioned apparently. Game is defo difficult but in no way unfair
I started playing this game years ago and after 50 hours I stopped. I plan to give it another try someday, I even bought the DLC on sale. What made me stop playing was the inventory management, it drove me insane because I'm a junk hoarder in these types of games.
My main issue with this game is: without previous knowledge of viable builds, you will have to restart your game (specially in the junkyward, a place where bad builds go to die) since there's no respec. If the game at least offered you a better tutorial about building or respec before completing junkyward, it would be a way better product. I did finish the game twice, I had a Lot of Fun and the story is freaking amazing, however, it's pretty clear that anyone who built a viable character had to search in the community for tips, which shows the game failling to explain its basics
I used to think that way but we have to admit that the game have so many options to makes things easier, you just have to test a lot of bs, I'm playing age of decadence and is the same experience.
Welcome to the rabbit hole. You'll hate every second of it but you won't be able to stop. Not restarting the game is the easy part. Not opening underrail.info to see if that build that just sprang into your mind is actually doable is the hard part.
prepeare to reroll your first character a few (or a dozen) times. many builds are possible to make but only handful are viable. a good test for your build is the mission in depot A. if you have bad time there you need to make over or rethink how you play your current build at least. and stay away from the higher than normal difficulties. they are for madmen only...
I wanted to check this game out, but lemme tell ya, that tutorial fight against the robots I was totally confused about the mechanics. Might have to look up a guide or something
I've put more than 1000 hours into this game. I respect you for having the courage to go in blind, but I have to warn you that doing so will likely end poorly. Don't be afraid to use the fan wiki for planning your character and crafting, and there's no shame in following a build guide. Ignore the rest of this comment if you don't want advice or low-key spoilers. Advice and spoilers below: -The main plot itself is an excuse to get you out in the world and exploring, which is where the interesting writing is. If you want a narrative with strong character motivation and arcs, you'll be disappointed, but if you love lore, mysteries and world building, you'll adore this game. -From the footage, your stat points are unoptimized, and there's no way to respec short of using Cheat Engine. That's not necessarily a problem, but the end of Act 1 has a monstrous difficulty spike that may mean you'll need to restart with a more optimized build. Underrail rewards you for specialization, so if you want to use more Psionics, it's worth taking points out of Str, Per and even Con to get more Will and Int. -There's a point of no return before the final area in the game, so make sure to be very prepared before you go down the big freight elevator. Keep a save from before you enter the Institute. -The Expedition DLC is exceptional. The writing is incredible, there's tons more to explore, choices to make, and you get even more options for building your character. Best of all you can unlock a type of fast travel. If you enjoyed the main game at all, you owe it to yourself to play the DLC.
As someone who has played this game, I COULD NOT stomach it. It demands completely understanding of its system, and it being extremely beginner unfriendly (and the fanbase being elitist at times), it really sucks. I want to like the game, but I can't ever recommend it to anyone.
