infinite and semi-infinite are very relative terms. When we consider a layer which is finite in one direction and infinite in other direction, we call it semi-infinite. For example, a lyer of base course in a pavement is infinite in horizontal direction and finite in the vertical direction.

NO, wheel stress diminishes after 500 mm down the subgrade, not the pavement surface.

Concept of capping layer is no more in use now. IRC 37 suggests a minimum effective CBR of 5% for subgrade soil.

If there is a filling of more than 2 Mtr, How much depth of Embankment will be considered for Design purposes for calculating effective CBR.
