Billy Crystal revealed afterwards that he and Robin Williams watched the show and kept calling each other to comment on what a good job she was doing. Awesome friends.
Whoopi was one of my favorite movie stars growing up. I loved her as the Oscars host too--she's so naturally charismatic and funny, and has the epic presence to calmly face that giant audience the way many younger hosts have been unable to do. Whoopi is a true star~~
It says so much how so many of the issues she mentioned are still massive issues today. Like some of those things - nothing has been done about them in more than 20 years.
blognewb I did get his jokes. I'm familiar with the American culture, racial issues for a long time. (Actually in this clip Whoopi has some jojes that I don't get, about some people I don't know, lol) So I did get the jokes and there were some good ones, but making jokes about one thing for 4 hours? That is boring.
Gábor Vág Chris Rock ridiculed black people all throughout as well, He didn't coddle them, even insulted Will Smith et al. It's the white people who feel insecure about how minorities - Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, Natives - have been feeling in daily life being the only minority in every workplace.
blognewb That was my other problem, he didn't mention Asians, Hispanics. He only talked about blacks as diversity. At least I don't recall any jokes about not awarding asian, hispanic etc. actors. And actually the Will Smith/Jada joke was the best, cause I found it funny that Jada Pinkett started to talk about this issue. I mean okay, at least someone started it, but if it was Viola Davis, it would've been much better, cause she's a great talent. Jada, not so much.
Gábor Vág He made fun of Asians being stereotyped as good in maths and accounting and how such is detrimental to pressures of being an Asian kid upholding such stereotype when many Asians are average or have zero interest in accounting. He also made fun of their names. At this point, you are nit picking to justify your subjective dislike of the hosting clouded by the inherent issue.
I can watch Whoopi all day and night!!!! Not only she is amazing at acting and joking, but she can dress freaking sexy!!!! I can see why Patrick Swayze liked her so much!! She's such a freaking Queen!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
"The Color Purple", "Ghost", "Corrina Corrina", "Sister Act 1 & 2", "The Associate"......Have you ever seen "Corrina Corrina & The Associate"?? They are 2 of her best films I think. Totally underatted and forgotten unfortunately.
Earlier that year at the grammys Frank Sinatra received a honorary grammy. During his long acceptance speech they cut off the microphone and went to commercial.
Knowing she had a migrane during hosting, I admire her for the strength she had. I suffer from migraines too and I am bed bound. Very inspiring lady 🥹❤️
Wow she is just amazing...such nice hosting so much said in such short period..not nonsense or some pranks or some lame like today's host ..she is so classic...I have never watched this ...now I want to watch the full show
What is surprising is that Whoopi has a really nice figure and hides it! She looks fantastic in that dress and gives most actresses a run for their money!
I love this woman! She really made the Oscars entertaining and poignant. I would say bring her back, but since she no longer wants to do it, I highly suggest Mo'Nique. She has an Oscar, tactful with her humor, and can win over the crowd easily.
I'd still prefer this funny, stimulating, provocative, and relevant Opening by Whoopi over Ellen's self-deprecating humor about the status Hollywood affords. Relevance! And those clapbacks. God, I wish she never aged.
Billy Crystal revealed afterwards that he and Robin Williams watched the show and kept calling each other to comment on what a good job she was doing. Awesome friends.
setheurovision94 i cried my eyes out
robbin williams and billy crystal are the most brothers in history of comedy
I love Billy Crystal! Whoopi looked regal in this!
Was she the first woman to host? First black person too??
Yep, yesterday i saw that clip
It's so sad that all the things Whoopi was advocating for, are things we're still fighting for today.
What?
True!
The irony is that she’s now the establishment. Smears liberals and promotes moderates on her shitty show
Makes you wonder how much progress we have made in 26 years.
26 years later and here we are :(
This is so good. First timer as a host, as African-American, a woman, but she made it so easy, smooth, and went very well. Ive got jaw dropping
Please please bring Whoopi to host one more time
Can we request whoopi together with ellen to host....
The realest person in Hollywood
whom is that?
If she's the realest person in Hollywood, we're in trouble!
Agree 100%
Too natural

Whoppi is the greatest. Spending a lovely evening watching all her Oscar performances on youtube. Her and Billy would be SO great as Oscar co-hosts.

Want to see Whoopi again as the host of the Oscars 😊✔️🙏👌👍 Who's watching with me? 2020?
I want Whoopi to have her own production company.
Ellen and Whoopi--the powerhouse of Oscar hosts
half of that phrase is untruth just whoppi
The best host Oscar Academy ever had! I love you Whoopi 😍
Truth ang galing!
"About a person who spent days and days running just one step ahead of the law, but that's enough about Tonya Harding" LMAO
A very talented lady.
I love when she says "thank you!" I just love her :D
The best host ever!
damn, the Heidi Fleiss opening salvo: she came out SWINGING!
jawonn jones .
CLASS ACT GOLD STAR!!! GORGEOUS TOO!!
She looks fantastic in that dress. Probably the best I've ever seen her look
3:15
she was ahead of time, this was 1994 guys!
She should've hosted this year, instead of Mr. Rock. She could've handle the whole race issue much better. It would've been actually... funny.
+Gábor Vág Chris Rock was actually funny. You probably didn't get half of his jokes. Especially if you're not American.
blognewb

Loved every movie she was in.
Y’all see Tommy Lee Jones LAUGHING?! that’s all you need to know.
i think this is the first time I've been attracted to Whoopi Goldberg
You've never seen her in, "Ghost"?
***** XD
Always attracted to Whoopi.. though she was a little icky to Bernie this year. But she is my top female beauty wise
Me too
why announce that, though? what is wrong with guys?
She's beautiful, I don't understand why people keep saying she's ugly.
"thats why they hired me HunNy"🏃
The most realest human being on earth !😬
I can watch Whoopi all day and night!!!! Not only she is amazing at acting and joking, but she can dress freaking sexy!!!! I can see why Patrick Swayze liked her so much!! She's such a freaking Queen!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
LOL.. she was flinging so much shade from the stagevyet so classy with it!!
A quarter of a century later and most of these issues haven't been solved.
There is no doubt about it. Only one Whoopi Goldberg!
she really needs to host again
She is very good at it; thanks for uploading this 7-min monologue.
this outfit and hair, DAAAAAAANG she looks FIERCE
Oh my word I absolutely love her dress she is so beautiful
"The Color Purple", "Ghost", "Corrina Corrina", "Sister Act 1 & 2",
"The Associate"......Have you ever seen "Corrina Corrina & The Associate"?? They are 2 of her best films I think. Totally underatted and forgotten unfortunately.
You must admit Henry , this is less violent ...You're right Audrey 🤣
Leonardo DiCaprio should've won for What's Eating Gilbert Grape.
Angela Bassett should've won for What's Love Got To Do With It.
Billy Crystal and her would be a great combo host!
That dress has aged beautifully, it's timeless and looks perfect on her.
Whoopi looks amazing
She is the best.
Without a doubt.
Gotta love her, forever
Earlier that year at the grammys Frank Sinatra received a honorary grammy. During his long acceptance speech they cut off the microphone and went to commercial.
And Billy Joel shaded them, during his performance. It’s one of the reasons why I love River of Dreams.
We need to have Whoopi back as the host. The nominations are not nice but the host can be.
Whoopie, you look fabulous! Love your dress and your hair!!
Knowing she had a migrane during hosting, I admire her for the strength she had. I suffer from migraines too and I am bed bound. Very inspiring lady 🥹❤️
Amazing dress....made for her...very regal..
The Smiths should watch this video and remember.
She is so beautiful!
Wow she is just amazing...such nice hosting so much said in such short period..not nonsense or some pranks or some lame like today's host ..she is so classic...I have never watched this ...now I want to watch the full show

Honey, the world is still watching in nov 2019 😁
one of the best Oscar hosts ever.
00:22. Never realized how much Jennifer Garner resembles Geena Davis.
@lunakick12 around that time sinatra was cut off by music during his grammy speech.
whoopi enters the stage feels like graduation march

@5:56 never knew that...
She looks sooooo damn fine in that dress !!! The mos glamorous and chic I've ever seen her !!!!
Man, Holly Hunter looked stunning that night. She still looks incredible today, but damn.
Anyone know the name of the song for the opening? 😍 thanks.
What is surprising is that Whoopi has a really nice figure and hides it! She looks fantastic in that dress and gives most actresses a run for their money!
I love her... she was so chill
What YEAR was she hosting???? Never mind, I just figured it out after counting backwards from Oscars 71st; (1999) this was no doubt 1994.
She looked fabulous!! Love the dress. Love the makeup. Love the hair. She cleans up well except when left to her own devices!!
Wow she's so beautiful
No slapping 😤 just love humour and fun
Oh quit whining
Whoopie was soo BEAUTIFUL.....sad to she her now.
Best monologue ever!!!!!
Look at that beautiful face!!😍😍😍
2023 like "oh, she got it and nobody listened"
' thank you! 'That's makes me giggle in 0:30
All the issues she’s talking about was being talked about in 2018
Whitney Houston @ 3:51!
I knew that was Whitney 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
"That's why they hired me.honey"! 🤣🤣🤣 I love Whoopi Goldberg! So ironic that the problems she mentioned are now out of hand..Gun control, eeh!
what is the title of a song from the beginning?
Can you tell me which is the entrance music?
Darude sandstorm
Verdi: Aida - Triumphal March
I think we as a normal person need something more like this... not something like recent years trend or recycle on political jokes or statement.
Having a long velvet dress is my biggest dream
She was actually pretty here,
What was year is this?
I love this woman! She really made the Oscars entertaining and poignant. I would say bring her back, but since she no longer wants to do it, I highly suggest Mo'Nique. She has an Oscar, tactful with her humor, and can win over the crowd easily.
3:13 Didn't know she was so political all these years. No wonder she's the Moderator for "The View" -- Love that show
Whoopi is so beautiful. She has amazing cheek bones.
Whoppi 🥺🥺❤❤
Look how beautiful she is!!! She looks so classy! ❤️❤️❤️ #watchingin2020
Janet was there 🙌🏿
"But, enough about Tonya Harding" 😄😂😅
I'd still prefer this funny, stimulating, provocative, and relevant Opening by Whoopi over Ellen's self-deprecating humor about the status Hollywood affords. Relevance! And those clapbacks. God, I wish she never aged.
Thank goodness for Billy Crystal!!!
The Oscars were so much more magical in the 90's...
What was that opening song?
She's effn brilliant and gorgeous..
@cnh10 I don't think it is. They just look similar.
A classic. I love her!!
She is intelligent. To all the pathetic haters on here who made a negative comment have no lives of their own. Your mad?
Steven Spielberg looks a bit pissed after the joke Jurassic Park (Eurodisney)
