I also believe in this idea. I feel as a writer, what you put down is a fingerprint of your soul, your beliefs, your everything. Depending on the story you want to tell, what you believe in shines through even subconsciously. So all these current day woke stories taking front and center queer messages first over world values second tells a lot about how little they care about anyone but themselves. Even the “heroes” are as self-centered as them and treated like it’s a good thing. Well it’s not,

I would rather not have them at all. I'm over it. Give me the ability to decide what's in my game. Take Mass Effect 4, for instance. I want them to allow us to decide the sexuality of the characters. This way if you want them to be gay, more power to you. If I don't, more power to me. Everybody is happy, we play the game a lot, DLC gets made, and sequels follow this. If they make the characters woke, i want nothing to do with it, as will be the case with many others. No DLC for you, and no sequels. Yes, that's what happened with MEA. Bugs and animations didn't kill it. Woke agendas did.

  • @RemixOfTheVoid
    @RemixOfTheVoid Год назад +95

The worst part about Arcee is that one of the guys who worked at Hasbro saw that his daughter liked Transformers, so he made Arcee for her and any other girl that liked Transformers. The fact is that Arcee was made to be an icon for girls, but by making her trans, they're basically taking that from her. And this would be the second time they've done this with her. And guess what? The first time it happened was because Simon Furman(the writer) had a problem with female Transformers, so he made Arcee a MALE character that was FORCEFULLY changed into a female by a mad scientist named Jhiaxus(pronounced ge-axus). Sure, they retconned it later, but it's not a good look to be taking inspiration from someone who's clearly sexist, which is ironic since these same people have a problem with shit like that. And what's worse is that Simon ruined who Arcee is as a character, by making her a cold blooded killer who was even willing to harm her fellow Autobots, and that's not who she is. She's supposed to be fierce, but also gentle, much like in Transformers Prime, where she wanted revenge, just like IDW Arcee, but Tfp Arcee wasn't willing to harm her own friends just to get it, and eventually just let it go. Simon may have done a few good things for Transformers, but still did messed up shit.

I can understand for example if a person being gay in the 1890s and it is creates a good character driven story that merely doesn't merely just hit the diversity checkboxes then it is fine. You can't except as an example, a Japanese man who has never met or befriend an Nigerian person before to authenticly portray a Nigerian character or fantasy world without doing a lot of research and getting cultural consultants.
I feel like the main reason why so many people fail at this is cuz they never cared or were interested in that authenticity, they just want to go "HEY LOOK AT ME EVERYONE, I GOT A NIGERIAN DUDE IN MY GAME!!! SEE HOW I CARE ABOUT DIVERSITY?!"

This was a bit of a shock to a lot of people, but they loved their story and their character.
Their sexuality was not treated as important, though you understood why and how they fell in love, it was what they were going through, and how one of them, who starts out as rather racist almost towards the main character (who is part of an alien race despised by many) begins to change. Just a couple of things to point out about the Transformers section of this video:
1: Arcee was only trans in a single comics continuity. Her origin story in this continuity was that a mad scientist put her through a forced gender reassignment surgery and the physical and emotional trauma from the process drove her completely batshit insane and turned her into a violent sadistic psychopath. Years later, some editor who probably had five gender studies degrees decided that the origin was "problematic," so they cooked up an even stupider and crappier origin story where they retconned Arcee as Galvatron's transgender brother. In every other continuity, she's female (or at least has a feminine-coded chassis.)
2: Again, "budding" was only a form of reproduction in one continuity. It was basically asexual reproduction through mitosis.

I saw Rise of the Beasts, and I don't recall any moment where Arcee is mentioned to be transgendered. That being said, there is a far worse example of a woke character in modern Transformers media. In the latest cartoon series "Transformers Earthspark," which is geared towards a younger audience, there is a Transformer called Nightshade, which is expressly a non-binary they/them. They have an entire scene of Nightshade explaining to a child what it means to be non-binary and even one where Optimus Prime is educated on what pronoun to use when addressing them.

I still don't understand how game and movie/show writers of the west don't understand the simple concept, if you want to make a good LGBTQ character you simply make a good character that just happens to be a member of the LGBTQ group, not a character whose personality is that they are LGBTQ.
Some writers try to find an easy way out of this by making a character that was popular and well written into a LGBTQ character, but the problem there usually is that they were established as not being that and afterwards their personality becomes that they are LGBTQ+. For example in DC comics Tim Drake the 3rd Robin. He was a very popular character, especially in the 90s he even had his own book that rivaled spiderman (to be fair spiderman was a different guy then so it was easy for DC to swoop in there and get the teenage crowd up), but in recent years they made him Bi-sexual and his whole story about him and his girlfriend that came to a very nice conclusion was ruined because they broke up off panel and there was never a reason given for it, in the games all they can talk about is that they need to support him during pride marches, and that he has a boyfriend now.
While here as Endymion shown us a good LGBTQ character who feels real and his struggles and story don't revolve around him being gey

    • @BiggieTrismegistus

Meghan Fitzmartin, the woman who decided to make Tim Drake bisexual in the _Batman: Urban Legends_ anthology title, was given a Tim Drake solo book to continue her story. It was awful and only lasted 10 issues. The comic was yet another example of a company making representation the goal instead of entertainment. It didn't help that between the _Urban Legends_ stories and the beginning of _Tim Drake: Robin_ Fitzmartin wrote _Dark Crisis: Young Justice_ that prominently featured Drake alongside the rest of his former teammates. That title wasn't just bad, it straight up insulted the guy who wrote Young Justice in the 90s and fans of that series. It was infuriating.

In the IDW Comics Arcee gets a "sexchange" by a crazy scientist to see how the sexless race reacts to it. This was written by a fairly unwoke author years ago. Only later was the story reinterpreted as a gender reassignment gone wrong.
The anode and lug story didn't come until years later. So to say they were the first is factually incorrect.
There are many interpretations of Arcee and at no time has it been officially confirmed that the version from the Rise of the Beast film is trans like the IDW version.

To those curious, the JDL is effectively the Waffen Schutzstaffel of the Decepticon ranks. Each member transforms into either a type of torture device or an execution device. Christopher Preist was writing a Black Adam series that recently wrapped up and gave an interview about the comic. He said he wasn't allowed to write a lot of what he wanted because of what he called "mystery men" who kept shooting down his ideas. Priest said he'd come up with ideas and work with his editor until they were both happy with the story. Then he said his scripts were sent off to higher ups in the corporate ladder and they'd come back with notes saying what he was planning wasn't acceptable. If I had to guess I'd say the person or persons were the "sensitivity readers" who make sure whiny babies won't ever have to encounter anything that might make them uncomfortable. According to Priest the worst part is that there's no discussion between the writer and the sensitivity reader(s) so he couldn't work explain himself or work with them to create something they'd be okay with. He (and presumably other writers) are just told their ideas aren't acceptable and that was that. No wonder so many comics published by DC and Marvel these days are mediocre at best.

@ModernGamesSuck you have a point even though I don't think all the devs are as compliant to ESG in Japan as the west is. For example they will minor censor (not saying this is a good thing, but i'd rather this than uglify a character) while in the west they'll completely take the femininity out of females to appease gender ideology.
I'm observing Japanese takes on ESG.
I got a feeling they won't be staying with it long term, especially now ESG is getting openly debated.

    • @ArgentWolf95
      @ArgentWolf95 Год назад

@ModernGamesSuck I agree, I'm just not as certain the Japanese will end up like us because they are reacting at least differently and have us to look at to see where this ends up, and i'll bet some of the Japanese creatives and other foreign creatives elsewhere (i'm british) are aware of this ideology, you'll notice there's a lack of ESG compliance in most eastern European companies, excluding CDProjektRED who went international and got into ESG. This, I believe, was becaue of the influx of Big tech hires between now and Cyberpunk's release.
Square, I don't know their story, but Capcom is likely because of Tencent who has a majority Stake in Capcom right now, and the CCP use ESG for their own agenda. They're working with World Economic Forum and have their own agenda as well.
You don't see Chinese games having typical ESG, but they 'ESG' their blatant state propaganda in their movies while also using it to censor Taiwan stuff.
Back to the content though. I will admit this game is extremely surprisingly in opposition to usual ESG standard of game design, character design and propaganda everywhere else, the Gay character seems to be the only ESG compliant thing so far and I haven't even reached his part of the game yet.
I was around 5 years ago so i'm deep into the opposition to Social Justice. I been opposing it since 2012 so I got some familiarity of how the marxist subversion goes. Back in 2016 I quit on Gamergate because I was seeing it subverted from the inside, people starting to say "Social Justice is not the problem, we are for real Social Justice" and I was getting fed up of trying to tell them that that Social Justice was why the issues in gaming were happening. I didn't know exactly where it was coming from at the time, but woke is a Marxist ideology to control and subvert culture. You describe their strategy well.
I heard the logic of "character being tastefully done" before, and it always came from people who have some progressive leaning stances or in the centre, and i'm in the centre but on the right being Classical Liberal Conservative (I also don't see things in a left vs right way). I mean, no offense to Endymion and i'm glad he is pointing stuff out and respect him for his beliefs, but he doesn't seem to realize that Representation was crreated to restrict creativity and attack creativity and escapism, which I experienced first hand. It's why I have a dislike of representation.
So where am I going with this? I think his description and praise of the character being a good character is acceptable and fine, we ren't gonna agree every time and I think we need to rethink how to avoid falling into the trap they're doing with the minor thing. So my current approach is: 1: We need a consistent standard of what makes something woke:
So let's put out a definition:
      "Woke
      /wōk/
      noun
The colloquial term for intersectional ideology. Intersectional ideology is characterized as an ideology routed in Marxist, socialist propaganda integrated into a number of different western social movements based in class, race, sexual preference, identity, religious and political preferences most pronounced in Critical Race Theory, Intersectional feminism and the LGBTQ+, and DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion). The goals and actions of the woke movement can be characterized by a belief that all people belong to either a victim or an oppressor class.
There is a hierarchy that assigns virtue or privilege based on perceived group identity and members of the woke movements will form angry mobs to attack others inside or out of the group to destabilize systems, reroute resources to perceived oppressed groups and attack outgroups. In Media, they co-opt creative works to politicize and use Representation to push DEI using characters and storylines, at the expense of the story and characters. Usually this is done by deconstructing the themes and story of beloved characters, or outright replacing them. Writers and believers of this ideology believe in "Representation" which is the belief that a character represents a oppressed class or an oppressor, and should reflect that.
Victim status will be used to pressure and control it's believers and outside groups into submission under the guise of being tolerant and empathetic. Activists will use it as a shield to defend against any form of retaliation. The woke activists will lie, manipulate, bully and propagandize others by claiming any opposition is a form of hatred or bigotry. The woke ideology do not recognize any form of objective truths and only aspire to power and 'their truths.'
Synonyms: Intersectionality, Social Justice. Marxism. Communism."
2: So with that in mind, I believe we should be smarter or more tactical about our criticism:
for example I really enjoy FF16 since it has no other ideological references to woke ideology, and I only know about Dion because people on youtube started mentioning he's gay. I've seen the character twice in two cut-scenes where he transforms into a dragon and fights another guy, then returns to his base to get a battlefield report. I didn't get any gay refrencesfrom those scenes. So if he's just the only thing about this ideology, it's non-woke or mild.
Games who follow ESG but don't push it strongly I see as moderately woke.
and finally you have propaganda, which is the "go-woke go broke" level stuff. Think Call of Duty or Overwatch.
I'm thinking about this because maybe going after the mild stuff over wokeness isn't the best idea.

In reality most of the world doesn't need representation at all. They act like they support poor, black, Asians and many more people but then comes their hypocrisy because in reality they just want money, fame, and power over others because in reality if they really wanted to help people then they would do welfare for society rather than making shit movies or games whose sole purpose is to push their agenda. A recent example is the writers and actors strike if they want to provide a helping hand then pay writers and actors and give directors creative freedom.

As a transformers fan I feel somethings need clarifying. One the transgender Arcee is a product of IDW. Original G1 Arcee was presented as female from the start. The in fact her, Elita 1 and all the other females of G1 were pushed to be part of the cartoon and comics because the daughter of one of the writers loved the transformers so he wanted to create a female one for her. Second budding is a process presented in the short lived G2 comics. The most prominently used reproductive method used is the well of all sparks where the creator Primus generates a spark (their version of a soul) that is bonded to a kind of liquid metal (The source of which varies) that then forms the new bot.

As an ex rule 34 artist, we make pictures like that because of depravity, money or shock factor. Some fetishes can't be satisfied in the real world so people turn to drawings to depict impossible acts.
Usually, the more grotesque the art is, the more desensitised the artist is as vanilla or tame stuff doesn't get them hard anymore.

Yeah….As far as I concern, in the IDW comic, Arcee was conceptualized as the only female Transformer. She was forced into a sex change experiment by Jhiaxus to introduce “gender” to the Cybertronian. In the later years, it was retconned that male and female Transformers were a thing all along so Arcee’s backstory was rewritten as “willingly allowed” Jhiaxus to experiment on her, to become her “true self”

They put characters that check boxes because they live their lives checking boxes. Forget content of character; they define everything on outside appearances. That's why they love it when people say what they like to bang. They take that as a code for outside items to be applied to the person.

I, myself and many others will stop purchasing anything to do with any franchise that has to do with this garbage. It needs to stay out of our schools as well.
