Love these owls! They are incredibly curious and social, if you hear one, try to hoot back, or play it’s hoot on a speaker, often they will come check you out and become friendly if you’re lucky. I have a family on some property in Oregon that visit nightly during the summer, sometimes the babies perching outside my window and screeching all night arrrrrgh lol. Check out the vids on my channel. Thanks for being owl people! 🦉
Glad it was helpful! No, any direction is fine according to Cornell Lab of Ornithology (nestwatch.org/learn/all-about-birdhouses/birds/barred-owl/). Just be sure it doesn't face into the prevailing wind for your site.
Very informative. Thank you!
You're very welcome!

Thanks so much!
Great info.
I just bought a nestbox. About to put it up soon. Should the opening face a certain direction?
